Four current Whirlpool vented dryer manuals were read end to end for this page. None of them prints an error code table. Whirlpool dryer error codes live on its support site instead, where one number can mean two things. Which machine you own decides which meaning applies.
The Codes Whirlpool Publishes for a Standalone Dryer
An F code means Whirlpool has already decided: the control found a problem needing service.
Whirlpool states that the dryer keeps running with AF and F4E3 present. So a Whirlpool dryer not drying clothes while the cycle still finishes is airflow, not a shutdown. A Whirlpool dryer control board fault reads as F6E1.
Fourteen more residential codes have a Whirlpool page with no stated meaning, only a power cycle procedure. Any list that gives those a meaning is sourcing it elsewhere.

The Same Code Means Something Else on a Laundry Tower
F4E3 on a standalone Whirlpool dryer is restricted air flow. On a Laundry Tower it points at the main heater. F3E2 is a moisture sensor on one and a pressure sensor switch on the other.
Merging those two tables sends a Laundry Tower owner to a vent cleaner for a heater fault. Laundry Tower is Whirlpool’s name, and WashTower is LG’s.
Compact heat pump machines use letters rather than F numbers.

- tS: the thermistor is not reading temperature correctly.
- hE: a heating error, too hot or too cold.
- LF: on the full size HybridCare, the filter has been taken out.
Which Whirlpool Dryer You Own Decides the Answer
The current vented range is three platforms in two fuels. A Whirlpool electric dryer carries a WED number and a Whirlpool gas dryer a WGD, with the same four digits. 4307 is the 7.0 cubic foot machine, 5720 adds connectivity, 6720 steam.
The ventless side is where mistakes happen. WCD3090JW is a condensing dryer. Its near twin WHD3090GW is a heat pump, same 4.3 cubic feet, one letter apart.
A Whirlpool stackable washer and dryer built as one cabinet is a Laundry Tower. Older machines wear a series badge: a Whirlpool Cabrio dryer, a Whirlpool Duet dryer, a Whirlpool Estate dryer. The plate inside the door decides which table applies, and a Whirlpool Cabrio dryer parts order starts there.

No Heat on a Gas or Electric Whirlpool Dryer
An electric machine needs a 30 amp circuit fused on both sides of the line. One circuit turns the drum and the other runs the element, in Whirlpool’s own words. Trip one and the drum tumbles while nothing gets warm.
So a Whirlpool electric dryer not heating is a panel check before a parts call. The same holds for a Whirlpool front load dryer not heating. A Whirlpool dryer not getting hot splits by fuel first, and a Whirlpool gas dryer not heating has a free check. The shutoff valve is open only when the handle is parallel to the pipe.
Past those it is a meter job. An ignitor that glows without a flame points at the gas valve coils. One that never glows points at the ignitor or the thermal cut-off. A burner that lights and drops out points at the radiant sensor.
A Whirlpool dryer thermal fuse that opens has a reason behind it, usually airflow in our own work. Whirlpool does not publish that link, so it is our view.

Heat Is Present and the Load Is Still Wet
A dryer that heats but takes long dry times has a vent or airflow problem, in Whirlpool’s words. So no heat is a component fault, and heat with long cycles is airflow.
The opposite failure looks identical when the door opens. With a moisture sensor fault the dryer heats and stops early, leaving damp clothes. Whirlpool sets F3E2 when five consecutive loads finish without sensor data. Its name for the bars is Sensor, Electrode.
Before that becomes a parts call the machine has to be level, with a load big enough to touch the sensor bars. WED4307SW senses temperature rather than moisture, so the sensor bar story does not fit it.

The Vent System Chart, and Where Our Work Stops
Whirlpool publishes one maximum duct length, the same for gas and electric. Elbows cost more than feet: each 90 degree turn takes 10 ft off the allowance, each 45 takes 6.
Side and bottom exhausts spend a turn inside the dryer, so add one before reading the chart. Only 4 inch heavy metal duct is allowed, plastic and foil are refused, and flexible metal is capped at 7 3/4 ft.
Whirlpool disagrees with itself on cleaning intervals. The manual says at least every two years, the support site one to two, and the engineering guide an annual inspection.
Its own fix list for F4E3 ends by telling the owner to call a venting specialist. The manual adds that service calls caused by improper venting are not covered, and the customer pays.
So the diagnosis is ours and the duct is a different job. A dryer taking too long, not drying, or running hot routes to our dryer vent cleaning page. No Whirlpool document says a restricted vent shuts a dryer down. Three signs point at the duct.

- Water on the floor behind it: Whirlpool notes this reads as a leaking washer.
- Very little lint on the screen: no air movement, so a clean screen is a warning.
- No air at the outside hood: less than a hair dryer on high means cleaning the run.
Noises, a Still Drum, and a Dryer That Will Not Start
A thump in the first minutes after disuse is a flat spot on the drum support rollers, and it fades. A thump that does not fade is a Whirlpool dryer drum roller. On a heat pump a compressor hum is normal.
A Whirlpool dryer making noise when spinning is a short list. A Whirlpool dryer squeaking under load is the belt and pulleys, from lint or age. The lint version needs the back panel off, which is a service call. A rattle is usually a coin against the blower wheel, inside the Whirlpool dryer lint trap housing.
A Whirlpool dryer not spinning but heating is a shorter list: the belt, the pulley or a seized roller. Whirlpool sells the belt, the Whirlpool dryer idler pulley and the rollers as one maintenance kit, so a Whirlpool dryer belt replacement rarely travels alone. On designs with a broken belt switch a snapped belt leaves the machine silent instead of humming. F7E1 is Whirlpool’s own label for a Whirlpool dryer motor fault.
A Whirlpool dryer not starting has Whirlpool’s own order of checks behind it. When a Whirlpool front load dryer won’t start but has power, both latches are the first suspect. Behind a real no start sits a Whirlpool dryer door switch, the thermal fuse, or the control.
- Clear the Control Lock: a Whirlpool dryer Loc error means the panel ignores every touch.
- Hold the button with dry hands: Start wants two to five seconds, and a wet panel behaves like a phone screen.
- Close every latch: a Whirlpool dryer door latch can look shut without catching, and some models have two.
- Move the Cycle Control knob: the dryer will not start on Wrinkle Shield, the knob owners call the Whirlpool dryer timer.
- Look for lights: a Whirlpool dryer not turning on at all is a power question, and the Whirlpool dryer PF code names a power failure.
One Year, Parts and Labor, and Nothing After It
The clock starts at the date of delivery, not the date of purchase. For that year Whirlpool pays for factory specified parts and the labor to fit them, and the Whirlpool dryer warranty has no parts only tier.
The years two to five section lists two categories, and both are refrigerators. No dryer motor, drum or heater appears on it. The word dryer there means a refrigeration filter drier, which is where a ten year motor warranty gets invented. There is none.
One clause cuts both ways and has to be read whole. A repair from outside Whirlpool’s own service network does not void the warranty, and Whirlpool will not pay for damage caused by one.

Whirlpool’s gas manual carries a rule the Front Range cannot opt out of. Above 2,000 ft the burner rating needs a 4 percent reduction for each 1,000 ft. Denver sits near 5,280 ft, so every gas Whirlpool dryer here falls inside it.

A code that returns was never a glitch. Loc on the display is the Control Lock, and it clears from the panel.

A short cycle ending in damp clothes is usually the moisture sensor rather than the heat. Whirlpool sets F3E2 after five consecutive loads finish with no sensor data.
Small loads, an unlevel machine and softener film all do that. PF means something else: a power failure interrupted the cycle.
What does a Whirlpool dryer F01 code mean?
On the compact heat pump machines, F01 through F04 carry no published meaning at all. Whirlpool gives only the clearing step: hold Power for three seconds.
