Range Hood Replacement

Most range hood calls are replacements, not brand-new installs. The old unit stopped moving air, got too loud, or a kitchen remodel brought in a new model. Wilson & Myers handles range hood replacement across Denver Metro Area: removal of the old unit, mounting and wiring of the new one, duct connection to existing ductwork, and a full airflow test before we leave. All major brands. Ducted and recirculating models.

What We Handle

Range Hood Replacement

Replacing an existing unit is the most common call we handle in this category. The old hood is disconnected from the electrical supply and unbolted from the cabinet or wall. The duct connection is separated at the collar. The new unit goes up on the same visit: mounting, duct reconnection to existing ductwork, wiring, and a powered airflow test. We replace any brand with any brand. If the new model’s duct collar doesn’t match the existing duct size, we supply the reducer or adapter on the same visit. Book online to confirm availability.

Ducted vs Recirculating

The two main range hood types have fundamentally different scopes. Ducted models connect to ductwork that exits through a wall or ceiling to the outside, moving grease, smoke, and moisture out of the kitchen entirely. Recirculating (ductless) models pull air through charcoal filters and return it to the kitchen. No ductwork required, but filters need replacement every few months. We handle both. If you’re switching from one type to the other, we assess the full scope at booking and confirm what’s needed before scheduling.

Ductwork: What We Do and What We Don't

We connect range hoods to existing ductwork. We do not cut new duct paths through walls, ceilings, or cabinets. If no ductwork exists at your location and you want a ducted model, a contractor or HVAC company needs to run the ductwork first. We identify this at booking. For most replacements in Denver Metro Area homes, existing ductwork is already in place from the previous hood. If the existing duct is the wrong size, we handle the transition fitting but not structural duct modifications.

Under-Cabinet Replacement

The most common configuration in Denver Metro Area kitchens. The hood mounts to the underside of a wall cabinet directly above the range. Under cabinet range hood installation is straightforward when the new model matches the existing cabinet opening width. A width mismatch requires either a different model or a trim kit. We check dimensions against the existing space before the visit to avoid day-of surprises.

Wall Mount Replacement

A chimney-style unit mounted on the wall above the range, without overhead cabinets. Wall mount range hood installation requires a stud mount for the upper bracket and connection to ductwork running through the wall or ceiling. The chimney section telescopes to fit ceiling height. Height and duct exit location must match the new unit’s specifications. We review these dimensions before we schedule.

Island Hood Replacement

The most complex configuration. Island range hood installation hangs from the ceiling above an island cooktop, with ductwork running through the ceiling. Ceiling structure and joist location must support the mounting bracket, and the duct path must align with the existing ceiling exit. Each island replacement is assessed individually to confirm structural feasibility and duct compatibility before the visit is booked.

Electrical Scope

Most residential range hoods run on a standard 120V outlet or a hardwired connection in the cabinet above. We handle both configurations. If no electrical connection exists at the hood location, an electrician needs to run one first. We identify this at booking. For most replacements, the existing wiring is already in place and the new unit connects directly to it on the same visit.

Replacement Cost

Range hood installation cost depends on the mounting type, whether the duct collar requires an adapter, and whether the electrical connection is standard. Range hood installation price for a like-for-like under-cabinet swap is the most predictable scope. Wall mount and island jobs take longer due to chimney adjustment and structural review. Kitchen exhaust fan installation on a straight swap is typically the fastest call we handle in this category. We confirm pricing before any work begins. See our pricing page for details. We install any brand purchased anywhere.

Range Hood Replacement FAQ

  • We handle replacements: swapping an existing range hood for a new one using the existing ductwork, mounting location, and electrical connection. We do not cut new duct paths through walls or ceilings. If no range hood exists at your location, a contractor needs to run the ductwork first. We identify this at booking before the visit is scheduled.

  • An appliance installer handles range hood replacement. The job involves mounting, duct connection to existing ductwork, and electrical hookup. That is our scope. If no ductwork exists and you need it run, that’s a contractor or HVAC job first. We tell you at booking which applies to your kitchen.

  • Yes. We install any new model purchased anywhere in place of any existing hood. The main variables are duct collar size, mounting width, and cabinet or wall dimensions. We review compatibility at booking. To replace range hood with a different style, such as going from under-cabinet to wall mount, we assess the full scope before scheduling.

Had our washing machine break mid-cycle on a Sunday. Within a few minutes of reaching out to them, the team at Wilson and Myers had contacted me with available times including that very evening, no additional fees for a weekend. The tech that arrived was really friendly and professional and got the job done quickly and below the amount I had prepared myself to pay. Will definitely use again if needed!
