Commercial Refrigerator Repair

When a reach-in or prep table drifts above 40°F, every pan of product inside it is on the clock, and a health inspector reads the same thermometer you do. Wilson & Myers provides commercial refrigerator repair across Denver Metro for reach-ins, undercounter units, prep tables, glass door merchandisers and bar coolers from all major brands. Our EPA-608 certified technicians check the condenser, fans, defrost controls and system pressure before recommending any part.

We work with restaurants, cafes, bars, hotels, grocery stores and medical facilities seven days a week, and every repair carries a 100-day labor warranty.

Problems We Fix

Commercial Refrigerator Not Cooling

This is the most urgent call we handle on commercial refrigeration. A unit that stops cooling usually has one of four failures. Dirty condenser coils block heat transfer, and a failed evaporator fan motor stops cold air circulation. A defrost failure lets frost block the evaporator coils entirely, and a failing compressor can no longer maintain system pressure.

A faulty thermostat or temperature sensor feeding incorrect data to the control board produces the same symptom with the unit appearing to run normally. We measure actual temperature and system pressure before recommending any repair. Book online to schedule a diagnosis.

Commercial Fridge Not Cooling to Safe Temperature

A cooler that won’t get down to the required 40°F or below is a food safety violation and a health inspection risk. When a unit runs constantly but never reaches safe temperature, the most likely causes are dirty condenser coils or a refrigerant leak in the sealed system. A partially failed compressor that runs but can no longer reach rated pressure does the same.

A TXV (thermostatic expansion valve) failure causes the same symptom on systems where this component controls refrigerant flow. A unit that can’t hold temperature is a health code issue: don’t defer this call.

Commercial Refrigerator Not Maintaining Temperature

Units that swing between temperatures instead of holding steady point to a thermostat that cycles incorrectly or a failing temperature sensor sending inconsistent readings. A defrost heater that runs too often and warms the cabinet on each cycle causes the same swings. On glass door merchandisers, a damaged door gasket that allows warm air infiltration is one of the most common causes of temperature instability. If the temperature swings and you can see frost building on the back wall, that confirms a defrost system fault.

Temperature and controls

Commercial Refrigerator Leaking Water

Water inside the cabinet or on the floor almost always comes from a clogged drain pan or blocked defrost drain line. In high-use commercial environments, food debris, grease, and ice accumulate in the drain faster than in residential units. A cracked drain pan is a secondary cause.

Water pooling under the unit externally points to the drain line outlet being blocked or disconnected. On every leak call we clear and flush the full drain system and test for recurrence.

Commercial Refrigerator Making Noise

Different sounds point to different components. Loud clicking at startup: compressor start relay failing. Grinding or squealing from inside the cabinet: evaporator fan motor bearing failure, one of the most common sounds we diagnose on commercial units. Rattling from the back: condenser fan or loose drain pan.

Continuous loud humming: compressor overworking from dirty condenser coils. A noise that gets louder over several days means a component is approaching failure. Catching it before complete failure saves the compressor.

Commercial Refrigerator Door Not Closing

A door that doesn’t seal wastes energy, raises cabinet temperature, and accelerates defrost system wear from warm air infiltration. The most common cause is a worn door gasket that no longer creates a complete seal. On reach-in units with heavy traffic, door hinge wear causes the door to sag and prevents full closure.

A door that closes but doesn’t latch on glass door merchandisers typically means a failed magnetic gasket or a misaligned door frame. Door gasket replacement is a routine repair on all major commercial refrigerator brands.

Commercial Refrigerator Compressor Repair

Compressor repair is the most serious and expensive single component call we handle on commercial refrigerators. A compressor that fails completely leaves the unit with no cooling at all. Signs the compressor is failing before full failure: the unit runs constantly without reaching temperature, the compressor clicks on and off rapidly (short-cycling), or the cabinet feels warm despite the unit running.

Short-cycling almost always means a refrigerant leak or a failing compressor overload relay. We diagnose both before recommending a compressor replacement. Book online to schedule an assessment.

Commercial Reach-In Cooler Repair

Reach-in coolers are the commercial refrigeration units we service most often. Reach-in coolers in restaurant kitchens run 24 hours a day and accumulate wear faster than any other refrigeration unit. Most common issues: door gasket wear from constant opening, evaporator fan motor failure, condenser coils clogged with kitchen grease, and defrost heater burnout.

Commercial Undercounter Refrigerator Repair

Undercounter units pack their components into a confined space with limited access. Most common failures: condenser coils that clog faster in undercounter units due to floor-level dust and grease accumulation, door gasket wear on high-traffic units, and thermostat faults. Undercounter prep coolers and chef bases see the heaviest daily use of any commercial refrigeration unit and typically require more frequent service.

Commercial Prep Table Repair

Prep table repair combines refrigeration diagnostics with the added complexity of the cold well and pan insert system. Most common issues: evaporator fan motor failure reducing cold well temperature, thermostat calibration drift causing temperature to rise above safe levels, and door gasket wear on the undercounter storage section. A prep table that holds temperature in the cabinet but not in the cold well typically has an airflow problem rather than a refrigeration failure.

Commercial Glass Door Refrigerator Repair

Glass door merchandisers and reach-in display coolers develop specific failure patterns from their constant door traffic and glass panel weight. Most common: door gasket degradation causing condensation on the glass and temperature loss, evaporator fan motor failure, and defrost heater burnout causing frost buildup visible through the glass. Glass door units often get reported when a customer notices condensation or frost inside the display before the staff does.

Commercial Bar Cooler Repair

Our bar cooler work covers undercounter bar refrigerators, bottle coolers, and keg coolers common in Denver Metro Area bars and restaurants. Most common failures: condenser coils clogged with floor dust and debris in bar environments, door gasket wear, and thermostat faults on undercounter units. Bar coolers that share space with ice machines are also prone to evaporator fan motor moisture damage.
