What We Fix

Refrigerator Not Cooling

The most urgent call we get. The clock starts immediately when food is at risk. The most common causes are a failed evaporator fan, a bad start relay on the compressor, a condenser that hasn’t been cleaned in years, or a refrigerant leak.

A fridge not getting cold but still running is often an airflow or defrost issue. A refrigerator runs constantly when it can never reach its target temperature: dirty condenser coils, a failing door seal, or a refrigerant problem keeps the compressor cycling without result. Fridge running but not cooling after the compressor has been running nonstop is a strong indicator of a sealed system issue. We diagnose on the first visit and tell you exactly what’s wrong before any repair work begins. Book online to schedule fast.

Freezer Not Freezing

A freezer that won’t stay cold is often a defrost system failure. The defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or defrost timer has failed and ice has built up on the evaporator coils, blocking airflow. Freezer not cold enough to keep food frozen but still cool is frequently a partial defrost failure or a door seal that’s no longer making contact. We check the full system before recommending a repair.

Freezer Cold But Fridge Warm

This specific symptom has its own name in the trade: a working freezer with a warm fresh food section. The freezer runs fine because the compressor is running. The problem is that cold air isn’t reaching the refrigerator compartment.

A fridge warm but freezer cold almost always points to a failed damper control or a stopped evaporator fan. A refrigerator cold but freezer not freezing is the inverse of the same family of failures. Refrigerator warm but freezer cold is diagnosable and repairable on most major brands. We check the full airflow path and identify the exact component that has failed.

Refrigerator Leaking Water

Two sources account for most leaks: a clogged defrost drain line, and a failed water inlet valve on models with ice makers and dispensers. A blocked defrost drain backs up into the interior of the unit and eventually onto the floor. A cracked or loose water line connection behind or under the refrigerator is another common cause. We locate the source, clear or replace the affected component, and test before leaving. For water line installation to a new refrigerator, see our refrigerator water line installation page.

Refrigerator Making Noise

Loud humming, buzzing, rattling, or clicking from a refrigerator usually points to one of three components: the evaporator fan, the condenser fan, or the compressor. A vibrating buzz that gets louder when the door is open is almost always the evaporator fan. A rattle that comes and goes is often the condenser fan or a loose drain pan. A click at startup followed by the compressor not running points to a failed start relay. We identify the source and repair or replace the affected part.

Ice Maker Not Working

This is one of the most common repair calls we handle. Refrigerator ice maker not working can have different root causes depending on the brand. On Samsung models, it’s frequently a faulty ice maker assembly or icing over of the unit itself. On LG, a known defect in the ice maker fan motor causes ice buildup. On Whirlpool and GE models, a failed water inlet valve or a bad ice maker module is the typical culprit. We stock refrigerator ice maker repair parts for the most common brands. For standalone ice maker service, see our ice maker repair page.

Refrigerator Not Working

A unit that won’t turn on at all is usually a failed start relay, a bad control board, or a thermal overload that has tripped due to compressor overheating. It can also be as simple as a tripped GFCI outlet or a power issue at the wall. We check the full electrical path from outlet to compressor and identify the failure point.

If the compressor itself has failed, that is a different conversation. Refrigerator compressor repair is rarely practical on units over 10 years old since the cost of refrigerator compressor replacement often approaches the value of the appliance. On units under 10 years old, fridge compressor repair can make strong financial sense, particularly on higher-value brands. We give you an honest number before recommending any parts.

Emergency Refrigerator Repair

Food loss is expensive. We prioritize emergency refrigerator repair calls across Denver Metro Area. If your refrigerator stopped working today, call a pro or book online and we will get a technician to your location as fast as possible. We carry the most common parts for the most common failures in our service vehicles to minimize the time between diagnosis and repair.

Refrigerator Repair Cost

The cost to repair refrigerator problems depends on the specific failure, the brand, and the parts required. A compressor replacement on a luxury Sub-Zero costs significantly more than replacing a start relay on a standard Whirlpool. We diagnose before we quote. See our pricing page for diagnostic fee details. For commercial refrigerator service, see our commercial refrigerator repair page.

Refrigerator Repair FAQ

  • The general rule: if the repair costs less than half the price of a comparable new refrigerator and the unit is under 10 years old, repair almost always makes financial sense. Compressors and sealed system repairs on units over 12 years old are the exception. We give you a straight answer after diagnosis. We don’t quote repairs we wouldn’t recommend. If replacement is the better call, we’ll say so.

  • The most common causes we see across Denver Metro Area are defrost system failures (heater or thermostat), evaporator or condenser fan motor failure, water inlet valve failures on ice maker and dispenser models, and start relay failure on the compressor. On Samsung and LG models specifically, ice maker assembly failures are the single most common service call.

  • Freezer cold but fridge warm is almost always a failed damper control or an evaporator fan that has stopped circulating cold air into the refrigerator compartment. It is not a compressor problem. The compressor is working: the cold air just isn’t reaching the right place. This is diagnosable and repairable on most major brands. Call a pro or book online to schedule a diagnosis.

  • An insured appliance technician. Not a general handyman and not the manufacturer’s warranty line if your warranty has expired. Wilson & Myers handles refrigerator repair service across Denver Metro Area. Call a pro or book online and we will schedule a technician for your location.

  • The compressor and the sealed refrigerant system are the most expensive repairs. On most standard refrigerators, a compressor replacement can approach or exceed the value of an older unit. On luxury models like Sub-Zero, Thermador, and Viking, sealed system repairs are more common and worth doing due to the unit’s original value. We diagnose and give you a repair vs replacement recommendation before any work begins.

  • Yes. For standalone chest freezers or upright freezers, see our freezer repair page. For the freezer section of a combination refrigerator-freezer, that is covered under our standard refrigerator repair scope.

  • Yes. For wine cooler repair, see our wine cooler repair page. Built-in refrigerators including Sub-Zero, Thermador, and Viking are part of our standard repair scope.
