Centennial is one of the youngest cities in Colorado and holds one of the older housing stocks in the south metro. It incorporated in 2001 out of unincorporated Arapahoe County, but the neighborhoods inside it are decades older than the city line around them. We cover all of it across our service lines.

When Centennial incorporated in 2001 it absorbed Southglenn, Castlewood and the surrounding neighborhoods. It was the largest incorporation in United States history at the time, more than a hundred thousand people at once. None of those houses were new.
Southglenn and Willow Creek were built through the 1960s and 1970s, mostly ranch and split-level homes that still carry their original kitchen geometry. That means shallow refrigerator alcoves, narrow galley runs and a laundry on the lower level with a long horizontal vent. Highlands 460 came in the 1970s and 1980s. The eastern half, Piney Creek and the Smoky Hill area, went up in the 1980s and 1990s and reads much more like a conventional suburb.
The practical effect is that a Centennial address tells us very little about the appliance until we know the street. That is why our technicians are not split into separate crews by brand tier or house age.
West Centennial, around Arapahoe Road and University Boulevard, holds the oldest neighborhoods. Cherry Knolls dates from the late 1950s. Southglenn added about thirteen hundred ranches, bi-levels and tri-levels from the early 1960s, on lots from a fifth to half an acre. Walnut Hills in the northwest and Ridgeview Hills, split into North and South associations, began in the same decade.
The 1970s and 1980s filled in around them. The Knolls is mostly Writer Homes two-stories and tri-levels, and Homestead Farm brought Sanford Homes houses late in the decade. Heritage Greens, a gated west-side community of larger homes, and Highlands 460, near South Suburban Golf Course, kept building into the 1990s. The Village of Four Lakes added about four hundred homes in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Near Willow Creek Park in central Centennial, Willow Creek has about fourteen hundred Writer Homes houses, from ranches to two-stories. Homestead in the Willows, also central, added Sanford Homes houses into the early 1990s. Foxridge, begun in the mid-1970s, mixes many styles, and Hunters Hill is an early-1970s mix of two-stories and tri-levels. Kitchens in these neighborhoods are usually on their second or third set of appliances.
East of Cherry Creek State Park the city turns to the 1980s and 1990s. Smoky Hill has nearly fifteen hundred homes from the late 1970s and early 1980s. Piney Creek holds nearly eighteen hundred Richmond American houses built through the 1990s. Chenango, Chapparal and Saddle Rock Ranches are custom-home enclaves on lots of one to two acres, and Antelope spreads its homes over two to three acres.
Read as a map, the west side is mostly late 1950s through 1970s, the middle fills in through the 1980s, and the east runs into the early 2000s. Kitchens on the west side have been redone more than once, yet the openings and connections often date to the first build. Custom kitchens in the east are more likely to hold built-in and panel-ready units.
Call while the appliance is failing rather than after it has stopped. Watch for cooling that drifts, a cycle taking twice as long as it used to, or a burner that lights on the third try. These are the cheapest repairs and the ones most likely to close on the first visit. For any refrigerator running warm, call sooner, because a compressor working against a failing seal tends to take itself out.
For a new appliance, call before it is delivered. In a 1970s kitchen a short conversation about the opening and what is behind the old unit saves a return trip, and occasionally saves you from buying something that will not fit the alcove.
