Cross the western line and you are in Edgewood, a Lakewood neighborhood with a near-identical name and the same ZIP code. It is an easy mix-up on a booking form. It changes nothing for the visit, since both sit in the same dispatch zone.
The housing is a mix of bungalows, mid-century ranches and duplexes, with more duplexes toward 20th Avenue and a good number of small apartment buildings. Renters outnumber owners here, so many calls come from landlords and property managers as well as residents. Because the 1950s houses were built without garages, cars line both sides of the streets, and it helps to know where a van can stop.
For appliances, the age of the housing carries through every street. Most kitchens and laundries have been updated inside houses whose gas lines, water valves and circuits are much older than the machines. The appliance is usually current, and the connection behind it often is not.
