Sheridan is small, and it reads best by road. The first settlement grew where Bear Creek meets the South Platte, and the town took the Sheridan name in 1890. On the Santa Fe Drive side, River Point at Sheridan fills 135 acres between Hampden Avenue and Oxford Avenue, beside the South Platte. It was built on a redeveloped former landfill and now holds regional retail, restaurants and entertainment.
Sheridan’s business and industrial parks sit around Federal Boulevard and along Santa Fe Drive. Their plats carry names such as Sherwood Business Park and Hampden Business Center on the Platte. The South Federal Boulevard corridor runs through the middle of the city, with small businesses and city hall at 4101 South Federal.
Homes line the streets around Federal. Their plats include the Sheridan Hills subdivision toward Lowell Boulevard, the Boulevard Gardens subdivision east of Federal and the Rose Gardens subdivision to the south. Some single-family plats on the Englewood line, shared with Englewood’s Knollwood View, went up around the 1960s. Citywide, the largest share of homes dates from the 1960s and 1970s, with a smaller wave in the 2000s.
Some well-known names nearby are not Sheridan at all. Fort Logan National Cemetery and the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan sit across the western line in Denver. The fort, founded nearby in 1887, still shaped the town’s early growth. The light rail station that carries the city’s name sits in Englewood.
For appliances, Sheridan’s housing mix means three kinds of homes. Mid-century kitchens have shallow cabinet runs and older electrical service. Homes from the 2000s are on a first or second round of machines, and manufactured homes need appliances sized for them.
Call while the appliance is failing rather than after it has stopped. Watch for cooling that drifts, a cycle taking twice as long as it used to, or a burner that lights on the third try.
