Amana Refrigerators in Denver Metro: Is This Your Model?

This page covers Amana refrigerator repair for the top-freezer, bottom-freezer and side-by-side models in Denver Metro kitchens, current and older. Amana’s own article on a refrigerator that is not cooling lists five causes, and none of them is a broken part. The model plate decides what applies to yours.

Which Amana Refrigerator You Own: Current and Older Families

Amana’s current lineup has three types, all freestanding. The prefix tells you which: ARTX and ART are top-freezers, ABB is a bottom-freezer and ASI is a side-by-side.

Only the two side-by-sides come with an ice maker, a door dispenser and a water filter. Every top- and bottom-freezer lists the ice maker as an optional kit, so one with no ice may have none fitted. Our Amana ice maker page covers the kits.

Amana’s records also cover models off the current grid, such as the ARTX2316T and older ASD side-by-sides. French door is not in the current lineup, though Amana’s documents cover older AFI models and the ARFC3129T and ARFC3133T. We repair all of them.

Freezers, ice maker kits and the dishwasher each have their own page in our Amana kitchen section.

Where the Plate Sits on an Amana Refrigerator

Look first inside the fresh-food section, high on a side wall or at the top front. Amana’s own guides disagree on the exact spot, from the upper right of the wall to the top left side. The manuals call it the serial tag. On models that take a kit, it also names the ice maker kit that fits.

Keep the tag clean and readable. Every Amana warranty text we read withholds coverage once the plate is removed or unreadable.

What the Panel Shows: Settings and Off States, Not Codes

In the Amana documents we read, no current refrigerator family has an error-code table or a diagnostic mode. The guides describe what each panel shows instead. Several of those states simply mean cooling is off, so Amana refrigerator troubleshooting starts at the panel.

On the ARTX top-freezers, what people call the Amana refrigerator thermostat is the Temperature control at the top front. Depending on the model, the Amana refrigerator switch for cooling is that control turned to Off or a 4-second Setting hold. The Airflow control sits on the freezer’s back wall. A panel showing anything these tables do not describe is a service call.

Amana Refrigerator Not Cooling: The Five Causes Amana Lists

Amana’s article on a refrigerator that is not cooling names five causes, and each one is a check you can make. Repair comes only after all five. So before an Amana fridge not cooling becomes a service call, run the five in Amana’s order.

  1. Not turned on: after a power outage or a cleaning, cooling may be off. The panel section above shows the off states Amana prints for its top- and bottom-freezers.
  2. Power supply: plug a lamp into the outlet and check the breaker or fuse. Amana wants a grounded three-prong outlet, with no extension cord, adapter or switched outlet.
  3. Controls: off, or away from the mid or recommended setting. A colder setting does not cool faster: change one step and wait 24 hours.
  4. Heat nearby: an oven, a radiator or another heat source beside the cabinet.
  5. Demo or showroom mode: the article says the word Showroom lights on some displays. No current Amana refrigerator guide we read describes that mode. Tell us if yours shows it.

Warm Fresh Food, a Soft Freezer or a Fridge in the Garage

Every current Amana family lists a single evaporator. On some models, Amana notes, freezer air enters the fresh-food section near the top shelf. So when one section is warm and the other is not, check the vents first.

Amana’s ASI2575GR manual lists 19 causes in its general operation table, and not one is a failed part.

If the soft freezer is a standalone chest or upright unit, our Amana freezer page covers it.

  • Fresh food warm, freezer fine

When an Amana refrigerator is not cooling but the freezer is fine, run Amana’s five checks, then look at the air path. Clear the vents, move anything stacked against them and close the doors fully. Change the fresh-food control one step and wait 24 hours. Still warm after all that is a service call.

  • Both sections warm

An Amana refrigerator not cooling or freezing points first to the off states and power checks above. Run the rest of Amana’s five checks next. If all pass, the cooling system needs a technician. Amana’s ASI2575GR manual says the condenser needs no routine cleaning in a normal home.

  • Freezer too warm

An Amana fridge freezer not freezing gets the same five checks first. The ASI freezer slider runs colder toward the back; the ABB freezer has its own arrows. Amana’s guide for the ARTX3028P and ART104TFD sets Airflow to Max for heavy ice use or a hot room. Still too warm after 24 hours is ours.

  • A fridge in the garage

Of the current models, only the ARTX2419S is Garage Ready. Its manual puts the freezer control on Garage Ready between 38°F and 55°F and warns that below 38°F operation may be improper. Above 55°F, return it to the recommended setting. Every other current Amana refrigerator is meant for a 55°F to 110°F room.

Amana Refrigerator Leaking Water: Inside, Under or Behind

Defrost is automatic in both sections on the ARTX, ABB and ASI families. On the ASI2575GR, Amana’s manual says melt water drains to a drain pan, with normal gurgling and sizzling. The other water arrives by supply line.

An Amana fridge leaking water inside calls for one check on Amana’s top-freezers. Find the white foam insert behind the control panel. Their manuals say to leave that air-return insert in place: without it, ice can migrate down and form icicles.

Some ABB bottom-freezers have a Humidity Control. It switches on a heater against moisture on the door hinge seal. On every family, close the doors fully, clean a dirty or sticky gasket with mild soap and level the cabinet.

An Amana fridge leaking water from the bottom has two paths to check: the defrost water side and the supply line.

For the line, Amana’s manuals ask for 1/4-inch copper or PEX tubing, with 7 extra feet so the unit pulls out. They rule out a piercing-type valve and a 3/16-inch saddle valve, and the tubing must stay above freezing. Check for kinks as well. A line that misses those terms is ours to redo through our refrigerator water line installation service.

Amana Refrigerator Water Dispenser Not Working

Only the ASI2175GR and ASI2575GR side-by-sides have a dispenser and a water filter. No current top- or bottom-freezer has either.

On the ASI2575GR, the filter sits behind a door in the base grille. One style ejects; the other twists a quarter turn. That manual says to replace it at least every 6 months, and its status light turns red when it is time. For the Amana refrigerator water filter reset, it says to press TEMP SETTING within 3 seconds.

With the lock and filter ruled out, Amana fridge water not working at the door points next to the supply. Ice faults belong on our Amana ice maker page.

  • Lock: unlocked; the lock stops the dispenser and nothing else.
  • Filter: on the ASI2575GR, changed within the last 6 months and its light reset.
  • Pressure: the ASI2575GR manual asks for 30 to 120 psi. With the filter removed, 1 cup in 8 seconds or less meets its minimum.
  • Reverse osmosis: the feed needs 40 to 60 psi, and that manual allows removing the filter if RO lowers the pressure.
  • Supply line: no kinks, no piercing-type valve, no 3/16-inch saddle valve and tubing kept above freezing.
  • Dispenser lights: Amana says they cannot be changed, so dark ones are a service call.

When to Call Wilson & Myers

Run Amana’s checks first, including the lock, filter and pressure on a side-by-side. Give any setting change 24 hours.

After that, the job is ours. Amana’s manuals send dark LED lights to service, and its article ends at a professional repair. A cabinet that stays warm with cooling on, frost that keeps building or water you cannot trace all need a technician. Repeated breaker trips go to a licensed electrician, as Amana says.

Sealed-system work is ours too. Amana’s manuals forbid puncturing the refrigerant tubing, and at disposal they call for an EPA-certified technician to evacuate the refrigerant. Our technicians are EPA-608 certified. I usually start with the plate and the panel before anything comes apart.

Our Amana refrigerator repair service covers every family on this page. Older and closeout units are included. We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts.

Under a year from delivery, book Amana’s warranty service through the contact printed on your Amana warranty. Otherwise, book a repair online.

  • Model and serial: from the tag inside the fresh-food section.
  • The panel: lights, dashes, the dial position or anything else it shows.
  • What changed: a power outage, a cleaning or a new installation.
  • Delivery date: it decides whether Amana’s warranty still applies.

Older Amana Refrigerator Recalls to Rule Out First

No CPSC record matches a current or closeout Amana refrigerator family. The two most recent are below; two from 1977 and 1978 cover side-by-sides made from 1969 to 1974. We check the plate against all four before quoting any repair. If yours matches, we point you to the recall.

  • CPSC 09-145, sold January 2001 to January 2004

Amana-brand side-by-side and top-freezer refrigerators were included. The relay that switches on the compressor can fail and overheat, a fire hazard. Units match by model start and serial ending, on a label at the top middle or upper left of the liner. Bottom-freezers are excluded, and CPSC lists a free remedy for these units.

  • CPSC 95-023, made April 1993 to September 8, 1994

It covers Amana side-by-sides with serial numbers 9304000000 through 9409156208. A light-cover screw could touch a hidden wire. CPSC calls it a shock hazard and lists a free remedy for these units: nylon replacement screws and a non-conducting wrench.

Amana’s Refrigerator Warranty: One Year, No Sealed-System Term

Amana’s warranty on every current refrigerator runs one year from delivery, parts and labor, under its 2023 texts. Neither prints a sealed-system or compressor term. No part gets a second year.

Inside that year, the free route is Amana’s warranty service, booked through the contact printed on your Amana warranty. We are not that service. After year one, Amana fridge repairs are the owner’s to buy, and ours to do.

The 2023 texts add that using an outside servicer or third-party parts will not void the warranty. Damage that work causes is excluded. Amana’s older texts for the AFI French doors and ASD side-by-sides also run one year, with no sealed-system term. The 2023 text also excludes the items below.

  • Consumables: water filters and light bulbs.
  • Installation: work that misses the instructions or electrical or plumbing codes, and household wiring or plumbing.
  • Door reversal: never a warranty job.
  • Spoiled food or medicine: not reimbursed.
  • Cosmetic damage: covered only if a defect caused it and it was reported within 30 days of delivery.

Amana Refrigerator Repair FAQ

  • What is the reset button location on an Amana refrigerator?

The guides we read give no reset button location for any Amana fridge on this page. They give an off-and-on step instead. Start there after a power outage or a cleaning.

Depending on the model, an ARTX top-freezer is off at the word Off on its dial or after a 4-second Setting hold. The ART308FFD switches off and back on with a 4-second hold of Cooling On/Off. On the ABB bottom-freezers, a dash in both displays means off. Each is in the tables above.

  • Where is the defrost timer on Amana refrigerator models?

Amana’s manuals describe defrost as automatic in both sections, and the product data calls the ARTX families frost free. Their owner controls set temperature, not defrost.

Frost that keeps building after Amana’s door, gasket and vent checks is a fault. We test the defrost system at the visit.

  • Can I replace an Amana refrigerator door gasket myself?

Amana’s door checks are cleaning and leveling. Wash a dirty or sticky gasket with mild soap, close the doors fully and level the cabinet. If the Amana refrigerator seal still fails after that, replacing it is a repair we do. We fit OEM parts when the supplier has the right one.

  • Why is my Amana refrigerator light not working?

First close the doors: Amana’s door and light article says the lights go off after a door stands open 10 minutes. On the ARTX top-freezers the lights are LEDs, and Amana’s manuals say to call for service when LEDs stay dark. Owners are not meant to replace them. The ART308FFD’s specification sheet lists incandescent lighting instead.

At the visit we test the LED module and the Amana fridge light switch together.

  • Is an Amana refrigerator compressor covered after the first year?

Not under Amana’s own warranty. Its current refrigerator texts run one year, parts and labor, with no separate compressor term.

On a side-by-side or top-freezer sold from January 2001 to January 2004, check CPSC 09-145 first. Its hazard is the compressor relay. Otherwise we tell you what failed before any work starts, so the repair-or-replace call is yours.

  • Will using Wilson & Myers void my Amana warranty?

Not under Amana’s 2023 warranty texts, which say an outside servicer or third-party parts will not void the warranty. Damage that work causes is excluded. An older unit’s paper may differ, so check yours.

Inside the first year from delivery, use Amana’s warranty service through the contact printed on your Amana warranty. After that year, we are the call.
