Viking Refrigerator Repair by EPA-608 Certified Technicians

100-Day Labor Warranty Expert service performed by our master technicians.

One Brand, Four Refrigerator Platforms in Denver Metro Homes

Is your Viking a 5 Series side-by-side, a 3 Series French-door RVFFR336, a Veil column or a 24-inch undercounter? Each family has its own keypad and codes, so the plate decides the diagnosis. Viking refrigerator repair across Denver Metro is work for our EPA-608 certified technicians.

Viking documents a showroom mode in each of the four families: the display works, but nothing cools. A Viking refrigerator not cooling with its display lit may be in one. If not, and it still runs warm, that is a service call.

Your Model, Its Family and Where the Plate Sits

This page covers each family’s refrigerator side. Freezer faults, wine units and the dishwasher each have their own page in our Viking kitchen appliances section. Ice-making faults, in these refrigerators or in standalone machines, are covered on our Viking ice maker page. Viking’s outdoor refrigerator VRUO5241D and outdoor drawers VDUO5241D sit outside what we service.

On a current model, the prefix names the line: V for 5 Series, F for panel-ready, RV for 3 Series, FD with IC7 for Veil. The serial number holds the production date. For a later owner with no proof of purchase or registration, Viking’s warranty starts from that date.

Where the plate sits depends on the family, and the model on it decides which guide applies.

  • 5 Series built-in side-by-side

VCSB5424 and VCSB5484, plus the panel-ready FDSB5424 and FDSB5484. Plate: upper wall, behind the top light.

  • 3 Series freestanding French-door

  • Veil integrated columns

The VBFBU1242G has no manual online, so its controls and codes are undocumented.

5 Series Side-by-Side: Codes Behind the Door

Every Viking 5 Series refrigerator in this family keeps its keypad behind the door. Only ALARM OFF works until you press ACTIVATE CONTROLS. A Viking fridge beeping here has a reason on the panel: DOOR OPEN, HIGH TEMP or a sensor code.

HIGH TEMP covers both sides. A blinking compartment light shows which one. When the freezer light blinks, our Viking freezer page takes over.

3 Series RVFFR336: Icons, Alarms and Modes

Today’s Viking 3 Series refrigerator is one model, so Viking freestanding refrigerator repair on a current unit means the RVFFR336. Each compartment has its own cooling system. Its High Temp Error is a freezer alarm, covered in our Viking freezer guide.

Veil Columns: Messages Instead of Numbers

Viking fridge repair on a Veil column starts at the display, because Veil prints messages rather than numbered codes. Touch ALARM to read one. Viking’s table uses bottom-freezer terms, upper unit for the refrigerator and lower unit for the freezer, without saying how an all-refrigerator column labels itself. Lower-unit messages sit on our freezer page.

Undercounter Units: HH, LL and a Rule About the Plug

Viking under counter refrigerator repair starts with a warning from Viking itself: if one of these units loses cooling, do not unplug it. Heavy frost may be the cause, and its melt water can overflow the defrost drain. Viking puts that water damage on the owner.

The table follows the FRUI5242, FBUI5242 and FDUI5242D manuals. The ADA FRUI3242D guide prints neither HH nor LL, though its spec sheet lists high and low temperature alerts. Viking fridge troubleshooting on all of them includes the front grille, which carries the air flow and must stay clear.

What Viking Says to Check Before You Call

Viking refrigerator troubleshooting in Viking’s current guides starts with modes, settings and time, not parts. Before you treat it as a Viking refrigerator temperature problem, allow the settling time. The side-by-side needs 24 hours after a change. Veil needs 6 to 12 hours.

  • Power switch, side-by-side: the switch behind the top grille must be back on after cleaning or a light change, Viking says.
  • Power switch, older 7 Series: on the FBI7360W family, it sits left of center behind the access panel.
  • GFCI outlet: Viking advises against a GFCI on the side-by-side and warns that one can trip an undercounter unit for no fault. A tripped one needs a reset, not a repair.
  • Leaks, side-by-side: a Viking refrigerator leaking water from the bottom may simply be the defrost pan behind the kickplate. Viking calls water there normal in hot, muggy weather if the pan sits level.
  • Dispenser, RVFFR336: it stops after 5 minutes of continuous flow, by design. After a new filter, run 5 to 6 gallons through it; a few drops afterward are normal.
  • Sounds, side-by-side: Viking lists rushing air, sizzling, popping and gurgling as normal, plus a high-pitched hum or pulsing from the Viking refrigerator compressor.
  • Veil running warm: check for Vacation, which holds the refrigerator compartment at 57.2°F.

Discontinued Viking Refrigerators

Viking refrigerator Professional Series models carry a V prefix, such as the VCBB363, and Designer Series models a D.

For a Viking Professional refrigerator not cooling, the plate decides which archived guide applies. Viking Professional refrigerator repair on a VCSB5421D starts from today’s side-by-side codes, unless the 14023 recall below covers it. A Viking Professional fridge of the older VCSB423 generation signals a Thermistor Alarm.

A discontinued Viking 7 Series refrigerator in showroom mode stops regulating temperature and hides fault codes. An older Viking 7 Series fridge showing CL needs its condenser coil cleaned.

When to Call Wilson & Myers

Run Viking’s checks first: the modes, the power switch or breaker, the doors and the settling time. An undercounter unit that lost cooling is different. Leave it plugged in and call.

Viking’s guides send some faults to its service or support lines. They are sensor codes that will not clear, failed lights, HH or LL, and the Veil message “Error Code”. A Veil still short of its set points 24 hours after start-up joins them. Out of warranty, Viking refrigerator service on all of them is ours.

The side-by-side, the RVFFR336 and Veil run on R600a, a flammable refrigerant, and the side-by-side and Veil guides set strict repair rules. Sealed-system work goes to our insured, EPA-608 certified technicians. I usually start with the plate and the display, because the family decides which guide applies.

A Viking refrigerator repairman who tips a 5 Series side-by-side to the right can send compressor oil into the sealed system. Viking says lean it left only, and we do. Viking built-in refrigerator repair follows its water rules too, such as 1/4-inch copper only on the side-by-side.

Our Viking refrigerator repair service covers out-of-warranty units across Denver Metro. Every paid repair carries our 100-day labor warranty on the work on your invoice. We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts.

In-warranty work goes to Viking’s warranty service. Otherwise, book online with the model number and what the display shows.

Three Recalls, All on Older Built-Ins

No recall touches a current Viking refrigerator. Three cover discontinued built-ins, printed by the CPSC and on Viking’s own recall page. Match the full model number and the serial date code, never a prefix. On these older built-ins, the first six serial digits are the build date: month, day, year.

On the 14023 dispenser recall, turn the unit off and unplug it now. On the door recalls, stop using it if a door sags, will not seal, or does not open and close normally. For the 2009 recall, Viking’s page adds a visual check: a top pivot plate extending past the door, linkage arm showing.

We do not repair a recalled unit. Viking arranges a free in-home repair for each, and its recall page says how to reach it. Our main Viking page lists Viking’s other recalls.

Viking’s Warranty: What It Covers and Who Does the Work

In-warranty Viking refrigerator service goes to Viking’s warranty service. Viking’s terms require its own network and exclude damage from repair by anyone else. Out of warranty, the repair is ours.

Viking also excludes food loss and damage from a power loss or improper installation. Used, refurbished and B-stock units are not covered. These terms come from Viking’s current indoor refrigeration warranty sheet. On Veil, Viking’s installation guide adds that overweight door panels or an unsecured unit that tips can void the related claims.

  • Years 1 and 2

Full parts and labor, from retail purchase, or from closing on new construction if that runs longer.

  • Years 3 to 6

Sealed system parts and labor: compressor, evaporator, condenser, connecting tubing and dryer/strainer. Undercounter units included.

  • Years 7 to 12

Sealed-system part only, on built-in, integrated and freestanding units. The owner pays labor, shipping and handling.

Viking Refrigerator Repair FAQ

  • Why is my Viking fridge not cooling when the display is lit?

It may be in a showroom mode: SHOW on the side-by-side, PS 8 on the RVFFR336, Demo Mode on Veil, Showroom on most undercounters. Each table above gives the exit. Veil’s Demo Mode is password protected, so Viking sends you back to the seller.

  • Where do I find Viking refrigerator error codes for my model?

Each family’s table above covers codes and messages alike. Codes such as E1 and E2 that circulate online appear in none of the Viking refrigeration documents we searched in full.

  • Is my Viking refrigerator still under warranty?

Check before you book. Viking’s current terms give 2 years of full coverage, then sealed-system parts and labor through year 6. Full-size units add the sealed-system part alone through year 12, and in-term work goes to Viking’s warranty service.

  • Do you repair a discontinued Viking Series 7 refrigerator?

Yes, out of warranty. Read us the model from the plate, such as FRI7360W or FBI7360W, when you book.

  • Where can I find Viking refrigerator repair near me?

If you are in the Denver Metro Area, our technicians come to the refrigerator. The cities we cover are listed further down. Book online with the model number and what the display shows.

  • Which Viking fridge problems can I handle myself?

The modes and settings in Viking’s guides are yours to check. So are the switch, breaker and settling time. Out of warranty, other Viking refrigerator problems are ours. They include sensor codes that will not clear, Veil’s Error Code…, HH or LL, and sealed-system faults.
