Turn one knob on a Miele gas cooktop and every burner sparks at once. Miele prints that as normal behavior, not as a fault. Wilson & Myers handles Miele cooktop repair across the Denver Metro Area, and our technicians are insured.
This is the call we take most often on a Miele gas cooktop. Miele’s gas manual states that a spark develops automatically on all burners when a knob is activated.
So one burner that will not spark is not a knob problem. No spark anywhere points at the shared spark module or the 120 V supply.
Miele’s row for a burner that will not light lists the causes in a working order.
Miele’s reset: turn all knobs clockwise to burner off, then disconnect the cooktop from the power supply for a few seconds.
Air in the gas line sits in a different row, filed under first use or a long gap.
A search for “Miele gas cooktop won’t light” often ends at a breaker panel. Miele’s ignitor row names a tripped breaker first, then food residue between the ignitor and the burner cap. A dead outlet in the cabinet kills ignition while the gas is still live.
Miele calls this part the ignition safety control in one manual and the flame failure device in another. It holds the gas valve open only while a flame heats it.
The flames do not touch the thermocouple and the burner does not get hot enough, from parts seated wrong or a dirty ignition safety device.
Owners take these burners apart to clean them, which is why Miele blames assembly before a component.
Burner base, burner head, burner ring, inner burner cap and outer burner cap
Burner cap and burner base, the whole assembly Miele prints
A pan support for round-bottomed pans, listed under accessories, not a burner part
On the spec sheet the same function is a printed field, and most gas cooktop sheets print GasStop & ReStart in full.
The KM 2355 G and the KM 2032 G print the bare field GasStop with no ReStart.
The ignition safety control operates independently from the power supply, so it works during a power outage. A Miele cooktop burner won’t stay lit is therefore not a power complaint.
Miele’s remedy for dead or over-sensitive sensor buttons is the one nobody guesses. Keep the cooktop out of direct sunlight and strong artificial light, and do not let the surround go dark.
A Miele electric cooktop with touch controls not working is rarely a failed panel. Miele exposes the sensor behavior as user-programmable, so the fault can turn out to be a setting.
A Miele cooktop that turns itself off is usually the safety shut-off. A cloth across the sensors triggers it, and so does a boilover. A zone left running too long cancels itself.
The safety lock symbol shows for a few seconds after switch-on, which reads as a dead panel to anyone in a hurry. Stop & Go, AutoBoost and the minute minder share that panel, which Miele names Direct Control Plus.
A Miele cooktop outer ring not heating is usually a setting rather than a failed element. Miele’s published remedy is literally to switch the outer ring on.
The reason is a factory default. On a variable cooking zone or an extended cooking zone, the second circle stays off until you program it.
| Program | Zone | Factory setting |
|---|---|---|
| P11 | Front left | Not switched on at the same time |
| P12 | Front right | Not switched on at the same time |
| P13 | Rear right | Not switched on at the same time |
| P14 | Rear central | Not switched on at the same time |
Miele prints its factory settings in bold, and all four default to the value above.
Zone geometry is not fixed at two circles. The KM 5880 prints a triple-circuit ring at 145, 210 and 270 mm, rated 1100, 2150 and 3100 W.
We read the zone block on your model’s own spec sheet rather than assume two circles.
There is a Miele state that looks exactly like a failed cooktop and needs no parts. It is demo mode, and Miele documents the symptom and the exit.
A symbol shows in the timer display for several seconds and the cooking zones never heat. The remedy is to deactivate demo mode, which sits at P0 in the programming table.
We have seen this after a showroom delivery and after somebody explored the programming menu. Nothing has failed.
A Miele cooktop not heating at all is a different question. Miele’s first row is the supply, so check the breaker, then clear a technical fault by disconnecting for a minute.
An element that switches on and off is normal. Miele says that timing comes from the electronic temperature control.
Miele also publishes the discriminator, and it is the power level. Cycling at the highest power level means the overheating protection has triggered.
Cracked glass is different. Nothing about the way a glass ceramic surface breaks is particular to Miele.
Miele ships a razor-blade scraper as a standard accessory on the electric line, and its cosmetic warranty term runs sixty days.
That cosmetic term sits apart from the two-year parts and labor term. The residual heat indicator stays lit while the surface is hot, so treat the top as live.
Miele gas cooktop repair and electric radiant work in the KM ranges, the KMR gas rangetops, and the CS Combi-Set modules. We do not service induction on any brand.
One letter causes most of the confusion on a Miele badge.
A model beginning with G is a dishwasher, covered on Miele dishwasher repair. A wall oven under the same counter is Miele oven repair.
Miele prints a Marketing class on many of these sheets, and the values we have read are Silver, Gold and Platinum.
No spec sheet is published for the current rangetop generation, so we will not claim re-ignition on a machine sold today.
Miele’s manual gives 16,500 BTU per hour for the large right wok burner on the KM 3484 and KM 3485. The same page prints identical ratings for natural gas and liquid propane.
Miele’s spec library keeps a retired cooktop section, and those sheets stay published. So an older KM cooktop in a Denver Metro kitchen can still be looked up.
The rest of the line starts from Miele cooking appliance repair. Other brands in this category sit on cooking brands we service.
Work Miele’s own list first, in this order.
Then it becomes our job. Call when one burner will not light while the others do, which points at the burner, valve or ignitor.
Call when no burner sparks, when a flame will not hold, or when a radiant zone heats on one circle only. We meet those three most across Denver Metro kitchens.
Book online with the model number to hand, and on a gas unit tell us whether the label says natural gas or propane. That names the jets and the gas pressure regulator the machine needs.
The whole brand starts from Miele appliance repair, and the full list sits on all brands we service.
Every repair carries a 100-day labor warranty, and we source Miele parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts.
The flames are not heating the ignition safety control enough to hold the gas valve open. Miele blames parts seated wrong or a dirty device.
Yes. Miele documents one or two clicks at switch-on, and brief re-ignition in a draft, as normal.
Yes, for the spark. These cooktops run on 120 V, and Miele’s fault table blames a tripped breaker for an ignitor that will not fire.
Check the light in the room first. Miele’s remedy names direct sunlight, strong artificial light and a surround that is too dark.
Most often demo mode. Miele shows a symbol in the timer display while the zones stay cold, and the exit lives at P0.
The second circle is switched separately, and Miele ships it set not to switch on with the first.
Miele builds the gas connection for natural gas or propane according to the model ordered. Check the adhesive label and send us the model number first.
Miele’s booklet gives two years on parts and labor for household use, and sixty days on cosmetic defects.
Yes. Miele rangetop repair in Denver is covered here alongside the cooktops. A freestanding or slide-in unit belongs on Miele range repair.
It depends which part failed. We diagnose first and quote second, and you decide before any part is ordered.
