If the display lights up and the machine will not run, Thermador’s own answer is the door, before it is anything electrical. Something in the way, a bent hinge, or debris on the seal.
That is its order, not ours, and the second item is the one people miss. A bent hinge on a flush-fitted built-in is not something to work on from a stepladder.
Wilson & Myers handles Thermador microwave repair and Thermador built in microwave repair across the Denver Metro Area. Thermador microwave service reaches the same insured team, with a 100-day labor warranty.
Thermador builds six, and the letters tell you which machine you have and what we can do with it.
A built-in microwave, flush in a wall with a drop-down door. Masterpiece or Professional. In scope.
A MicroDrawer, in a base cabinet, opening like a drawer. In scope, and its own mechanical story.
The 24 inch built-in with a left-side opening door, which needs a separate trim kit to sit in a 30 inch opening. In scope.
A speed oven, meaning a microwave cavity with convection. In scope, and the thermal half lives on our oven page.
Over-the-range, with ventilation underneath. Out of scope, and we say so before you book.
We service built-in and luxury microwaves, not over-the-range or countertop machines. Thermador builds exactly one over-the-range model and names it that way itself. If your badge starts MU we will point you elsewhere rather than take the booking.
Combination units complicate it usefully. A Thermador combination microwave oven repair on a stack with MC in the number is two machines behind one front. The microwave cavity is this page. The thermal oven is our Thermador oven repair page.
All four Thermador microwave manuals open with the same federally mandated precaution, in the same words. It is worth reading properly.
Do not attempt to operate the oven with the door open, and do not defeat or tamper with the safety interlocks. Do not place anything between the front face and the door, or let soil or cleaner residue build up on the sealing surfaces. Do not operate a damaged oven. Thermador names the damage: a bent door, broken or loosened hinges and latches, damaged door seals and sealing surfaces.
Note that Thermador writes interlocks, plural. It is a system, and it is the reason a Thermador microwave door not closing and a Thermador microwave won’t start are the same conversation.
There is a maintenance line hiding in there too. Thermador states that a highly soiled door seal means the door will no longer close properly during operation. A dirty gasket is not a cosmetic issue on this machine, it is a stop.
So Thermador microwave door latch repair is real work we do. It is also the one repair where we will not improvise, because the door is what keeps microwave energy inside the cavity.
Between them these account for a good share of the calls we take on this appliance.
That third one settles a lot of arguments. A Thermador microwave not heating properly is sometimes a comparison against a number measured a different way.
Two things to check yourself, both free.
The door and its seal. Nothing in the way, no packing material stuck to the gasket, no soil on the sealing surface. And no visible bend to the door or hinge. If the door is damaged, stop using the machine.
The waveguide cover. On a MicroDrawer this is a mica panel on the inside top of the drawer, and Thermador is emphatic about it. Wipe splatters off immediately, because built-up splashes may overheat and cause smoke or catch fire. Do not remove it.
That one explains a complaint we hear often. A Thermador microwave sparking, or smoking with no food in it, is very often a scorched mica cover rather than a failed component.
Call us for a Thermador microwave not working after the door checks, or a Thermador microwave control panel not responding. Call us for a Thermador microwave light not working, or a Thermador microwave making noise that is new.
Book online and tell us the first two letters of the model. MB, MD, MC and MU are four different machines and one of them we will decline.
Unlike its ovens, Thermador does publish microwave codes, and one of them has a specific published meaning.
Here is everything Thermador publishes for this appliance family, in its own words.
| Display | What Thermador says it means | What Thermador says to do |
|---|---|---|
| E and a number, with a phone number | A malfunction has occurred | Note the code, switch off the fuse in the fuse box, and call for support |
| E11, with a phone number | The touch buttons are not operating properly, which may be condensation on the keypad | Clean the panel with a dry cloth, switch the fuse off, switch back on after 10 seconds |
| Temperature Sensor Error | Speed oven only. A named sensor string rather than a code | Touch the display and re-enter the settings. Call if it happens again |
| Humidity Sensor Error | Speed oven only, the same wording | The same move |
| Temperature Error | Speed oven only, the same wording | The same move |
E11 is the one Thermador gives a specific meaning, and it is genuinely useful. Read what it implies. A built-in microwave installed above or below other cooking appliances collects steam from its own kitchen, and that steam can stop the keypad responding.
Note also how the generic entry differs from the oven’s. Here Thermador’s first instruction is to kill power at the fuse box, not to reset and retry. That is a firmer posture, and it is worth respecting.
A Thermador microwave drawer repair is a different job from a built-in, because a drawer has moving parts a wall unit does not.
A Thermador microwave drawer not opening and a Thermador microwave drawer stuck come down to four parts. The drawer motor, the drawer track, the soft-close drawer rail, the drawer position sensor. None of those exists on an MB machine.
There is no turntable in a MicroDrawer, which is worth saying because Thermador microwave turntable not spinning is a phrase people search on every brand. On the built-in models there is a glass tray with a turntable motor and coupler behind it. That is what a spinning complaint means here.
One warning applies to both, and it is expensive. Running the oven empty can damage the magnetron tube or the tray, and Thermador prints that in more than one manual. A guest or a child starting an empty machine is a documented failure mode rather than a theoretical one.
The door first, every time, because it is Thermador’s own first cause and because it is the safety system. Then the code if there is one, then the cavity.
Access is next, and on this appliance it decides the day. A Thermador 30 inch built-in microwave comes out of a wall opening with the surrounding cabinetry to work around. A MicroDrawer comes out of a base cabinet. Neither is a countertop swap.
On the high voltage side, the magnetron, the high-voltage transformer, the high-voltage diode and the high-voltage capacitor, and on newer machines the inverter board. That side is not homeowner territory under any circumstances, because the capacitor holds a charge after the machine is unplugged.
On the door, the door latch assembly and the door hinge. Behind them sit the primary interlock switch, the secondary interlock switch and the monitor switch. On the controls, the control board and the membrane switch or touchpad. On a speed oven, the convection heating element and the convection fan motor as well.
Thermador Masterpiece microwave, Thermador MicroDrawer, Thermador built-in microwave and Thermador combination microwave are all this page, across the MB, MD and MC30 series. Thermador microwave repair cost moves with which of those parts it turns out to be, so we diagnose first and quote second.
Coverage across every brand sits on our microwave repair page. The rest of the cooking line is on our Thermador cooking appliances page, and the brand starts from Thermador appliance repair.
Every repair carries a 100-day labor warranty, and we source Thermador parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts.
Built-in models in the MB series and MicroDrawer models in the MD series. The 24 inch MBCS with its trim kit, and speed ovens with MC in the number. Not the over-the-range MU model.
No. We service built-in and luxury microwaves rather than over-the-range or countertop machines, and Thermador names that model an over-the-range microwave itself. We would rather tell you now than at the door.
Yes, and it is most of this page. Built-in machines are the ones worth repairing, because they are fitted into cabinetry and replacing one is joinery as well as appliance cost.
Yes, the MicroDrawer, in 24 and 30 inch widths. We repair them, and the failures are usually mechanical: the drawer motor, the track, the soft-close rail or the position sensor.
If it runs but does not heat, the high voltage side is the likely place. That is technician work, because the capacitor holds a charge. If it will not run at all, check the door and its seal first.
Thermador’s own order is the door: something obstructing it, a bent hinge, or soil on the seal. It also says a heavily soiled door seal stops the door closing properly during operation.
That the touch buttons are not responding properly, which Thermador says may be condensation on the keypad. Wipe the control panel with a dry cloth, switch the fuse off for ten seconds, and switch it back on.
It moves with the part, so a single figure would be a guess. A door hinge and a magnetron are not the same job. We diagnose first, quote second, and you decide before anything is ordered.
Usually more so than a countertop machine, because a built-in is fitted into the cabinetry and often trimmed to match. A single failed component on a sound machine is normally worth fixing.
We publish no figure, because Thermador does not, and every number circulating online is unsourced. Keeping the door seal and the waveguide cover clean does more for it than the badge does.
The whole metro, from the city out through the surrounding suburbs. Coverage for the city itself sits on our appliance repair in Denver page. Thermador microwave repair near me and Thermador microwave oven repair near me reach the same team.
Check the door before anything electrical. Obstruction, a bent hinge, or soil on the seal, in that order. That is Thermador's own list, not ours.
