Midea sells three different washers under one badge. The code on the display only means something once you know which of them you are standing in front of. Most Midea washing machine problems trace back to that, so Midea washer repair starts by identifying the platform.
The MLH45N1AWW at 4.5 cubic feet, and the MLH52S7 and MLH52N5AWW at 5.2, run one shared platform.
Spin tops out at 1300 rpm, the cabinet stacks, and the 4.5 cubic foot model is ENERGY STAR listed. Midea front load washer repair usually comes down to that filter, the door lock assembly or the drive.
The MLV45N3BWW is the current US top loader. It washes with a low-profile impeller rather than a center-post agitator. It drives the tub with a belt over a motor pulley. A glazed belt is a live suspect.
The lid locks before the machine fills, and an impact switch watches for movement. Midea top load washer repair has a mechanical branch the front loaders do not.
The Midea portable washer rolls on casters. It carries both the Midea and the COMFEE’ badge, and COMFEE’ is a Midea Group brand, so a COMFEE’ owner owns a Midea. Parts and fault behavior follow the platform, not the badge on the lid.
A Midea compact washer buys its footprint with drum size. The Midea 1.6 cu ft portable washer is rated for an 11 lb load. Full-size machines take 18 lb. That load limit is the number owners ignore.
A Midea washer-dryer combo is a third case. The 2.7 cubic foot all-in-one washes and dries in one drum with no vent. In service terms it is neither a washer nor a dryer. There is no E1, E2, E3, E4 or E5 on a Midea front loader, whatever a search result tells you.
Six of them describe something you can act on. Five more name a component.

F8 is the one worth knowing. It names the water level sensor, also called the pressure switch. A sensor with a pinched or scaled pressure hose is not a control board.
Neither platform will spin on a full tub, so the first question is whether the machine drained. Load balance is the second. The front loader drops to 400 rpm when it struggles to balance, and adds three minutes per attempt. A cycle that keeps stretching is the control working, not failing.
The top loader tries three times, then posts E4. Redistribute the laundry, keep the dry weight under 18 lb and run Rinse and Spin on an empty drum. An empty drum that spins cleanly tells you the laundry was the problem.
A top loader will not spin with the lid unlatched. Owners and parts sites call that part the lid switch; Midea’s breakdown calls it a lock box, and the display codes its failure FD. There is no motor coupling to shear on this platform, because the tub drives off a belt and a motor pulley rather than direct drive. A Midea washing machine not spinning on a level floor with a balanced load is the lock, the belt or the drive.
On a front loader, open the access door at the lower front, put towels down and turn the filter counterclockwise. About a cup of water comes out. Coins, hair and underwire collect there by design, and clearing it resolves more drain faults than any part replacement.
On a top loader the order is different.

Both platforms put a time limit on filling, so a loose hose cannot flood the room. Front loaders want water pressure between 10 and 120 psi. The top loader wants 14 to 116 psi. Below that it cannot fill inside the time the control allows, so it stops and posts a code.
Shut the supply, unhook the inlet hoses at the back and clean the screens. Rule out normal behavior first. Water arrives about a minute after Start, and the top loader agitates a dry load for up to a minute of load sensing. E12 is the exception, because a water inlet valve that overfills needs looking at now.
Never force it. On a front loader, pressing pause can take up to 30 seconds to release the door. A blocked pump filter is a documented cause of a door that stays shut. Draining through the filter is the safe route to trapped laundry.
During start-up the machine locks and unlocks the door during a self check, and that clicking is normal. E30 with the door plainly closed usually means fabric is caught in the door boot seal. FD on a top loader is the lid lock itself. That one is a service call.
Locate the water before naming a part. Where it lands on the floor narrows the cause faster than any code does.
Almost always oversudsing. That is detergent, not hardware.
The detergent dispenser drawer, usually clogged with powder.
The pump filter cap is not seated properly.
An inlet hose or its connection at the valve.
The tub seal, especially with rust staining under the bearing housing.
On a machine that is new or recently moved, check the shipping hardware first. The front loader ships with four bolts, four spacers and four cord retainers. Midea states that damage from leaving them in is not covered by its warranty. Then level it.
Push the cabinet at the back right and the back left. Then adjust the feet until all four sit firmly. A quarter inch of movement during spin is by design.
Midea’s parts breakdown for the top loader shows a balance ring with upper and lower cushions, not the suspension rods other top-load platforms use. So a top loader that still walks on a level floor with a balanced load points at the impact switch, which E5 names directly. On a front loader the same complaint points at the springs and dampers. Clear the pump filter before you condemn the drum bearing. The front loader is designed to trap coins and underwire there, and a captured object gives a convincing impression of a bearing at 1300 rpm. On a top loader a glazed belt over the motor pulley is the cheaper suspect.
A growl that rises with the spin and goes quiet during the wash is the classic bearing pattern. Turn the empty drum by hand and listen for roughness through a full rotation, then check for play at the six and twelve o’clock positions. Rust staining down the rear of the outer tub, below the bearing housing, usually means the tub seal went first. That is not a homeowner job on either platform.
Elevation is not what wears these machines out. Cold is. Midea prohibits installing the washer anywhere water can freeze. The valve, the pump and the hoses always hold water, and frozen water splits them.
The stated limit is 32°F. An unheated Denver garage sits below that for weeks, with an average January low near 21°F. The damage rarely shows during the freeze. It shows at the first thaw, as a cracked pump housing or a leak that was not there in October.
Water chemistry is the second factor. Denver Metro Area is not one water system. Denver Water calls its own supply soft to moderately hard, softer than most owners assume. The south metro draws more groundwater and runs harder, and Castle Rock calls its water moderately hard to hard.
The same model scales at very different rates depending on where it sits. Run the Tub Clean cycle monthly and leave the door ajar between loads.
Midea routes warranty work exclusively through its own service network. The real problem is not the machine. It is finding an insured technician who will take the job once the first year is up.

There is no reset code and no button combination. Neither official US manual documents one, and the only reset either mentions is the circuit breaker. What works is clearing the fault condition, then cutting power at the outlet or breaker for a minute.
The Midea washing machine E1 error is a top-load code. It means filling failed. Either the machine spent more than 30 minutes trying to fill, or the level did not change in the five minutes after filling ended. It is a supply fault far more often than a parts fault, and it does not exist on the front-load models.
The Midea washing machine E4 error is top-load only as well. The machine tried three times to rebalance the drum during the spin and gave up. One heavy item, a duvet or a bath mat, is the usual cause.
Redistribute the load and run Rinse and Spin. If E4 returns on a level machine with a balanced load, the suspension or the impact switch is next.
For the first year, parts and labor together. After that the inverter motor on the front loaders carries a parts-only warranty to year ten. The stainless tub carries a lifetime limited warranty against non-cosmetic defects.

The honest answer is structural, not an opinion. Midea backs the front-load inverter motor for parts to year ten and the stainless tub for the life of the machine. Those are the two parts it expects to outlast the warranty. The 4.5 cubic foot front loader is ENERGY STAR listed.
In the field, installation decides more than the badge does. A Midea that went in level, with the shipping bolts out and a filter that gets cleared, gives little trouble. The same model on a sloping garage floor does not.
