If your Thermador freezer column has stopped making ice, or there is water where there should not be, you are on the right page. Both of those live in the freezer cabinet on this brand, not in the refrigerator next to it.
That surprises people, and it is the single most useful thing we can tell you before a visit. It also means an ice complaint on a Thermador column is a freezer call.
Wilson & Myers repairs Thermador freezer columns across the Denver Metro Area. Thermador freezer repair and Thermador freezer service reach the same team. Insured technicians, EPA-608 certified where refrigerant is involved, and a 100-day labor warranty on every repair.
This is not our inference. It is in the titles BSH gives its own specification sheets. Every Thermador freezer column is documented as a freezer column with internal ice maker or with external dispenser. Every refrigerator column is documented as a custom fresh food column.
The manuals confirm it from the other side. The freezer column’s guide carries a water connection section, an ice maker section and a water filter counter. The refrigerator column’s guide has none of the three.
So on a column installation, ice and water are ours here. On combination and freestanding Thermador units the ice maker sits differently, and those belong on our Thermador refrigerator repair page.
The freezer platform publishes one structured fault table and this is it, in Thermador’s order rather than ours. Most of it is not a broken part.
| What you see | Cause per the manual | What the manual says to do |
|---|---|---|
| Ice maker not working | Ice cube production switched off | Switch ice cube production back on |
| Ice maker not working | Freezer compartment too warm | Set the temperature lower |
| Ice maker not working | Ice cube container not fully inserted | Push the container fully home |
| Ice maker not working | No water supply, or low water pressure | Check the water connection and the supply pressure |
| Ice maker not working | Kink in the water hose | Turn the supply off and straighten it. Replace the hose if it is damaged |
| Ice maker not working | Ice maker without power | Call for service |
| Too few or deformed cubes | Recently switched on, or many cubes removed | An empty container takes around 24 hours to fill |
| Too few or deformed cubes | Production stops with the container not full | Do not store the ice shovel on the ice. The sensor then misreads the fill level |
| Too few or deformed cubes | Water filter blocked or due | Replace the water filter |
| Water leaking from the appliance | Water connection not tight | Check the connections are firm and the hose undamaged. A damaged hose is replaced with original parts only |
Thermador’s support pages add two causes the manual leaves out. A cube can jam the level-sensing arm, and their instruction is to free it with a blunt plastic tool rather than anything sharp. And on built-in units the ice bin has a detection switch on the back wall. A bin seated slightly wrong reads as no bin at all.
Two numbers worth having before you decide something is broken. From power on, roughly 24 hours to first ice and about 72 hours to full production. After that, somewhere between 70 and 120 cubes a day.
This is the closest thing to a meter reading the platform gives you, and it is checkable at the supply.
The water filter counter catches people out, because it is a settings-menu item rather than a part. It can be switched on, off and reset independently of actually changing the filter. That is how a warning light outlives the filter change that should have cleared it.
Work the free half of that table first. Is ice production switched on, is the bin seated fully, is the freezer cold enough. Then the hose behind the cabinet, and the filter.
Give a newly installed or newly powered machine its 24 hours before deciding the ice maker failed. A great many of these calls are a customer counting cubes on day one.
Call us when water is leaking, or when the ice maker has no power. Call us when the temperature alarm keeps firing, or when frost appears on a NoFrost machine. That last one matters and we explain why below.
Book online and tell us whether the column has an internal ice maker or an external dispenser. The specification sheet says which, and it changes the parts we bring.
Thermador’s wording is that the fully automatic NoFrost system keeps the freezer compartment frost-free and defrosting is no longer required. Two side effects of that system get reported to us as faults.
The front of the housing is deliberately warmed a little, which the manual says prevents condensation around the door seal. A warm frame on a freezer column is designed behaviour.
And a door that will not immediately reopen after closing is not stuck. The manual asks you to wait until the low pressure inside has equalised.
The useful corollary is the reverse. On a cabinet whose manual says defrosting is no longer required, visible frost buildup is a fault signal, not normal operation. Either the automatic system is not doing its job or the door is not sealing.
When the compartment gets too warm the alarm fires and the panel shows a message. What it shows is the warmest temperature the freezer reached, not the temperature right now.
That distinction is the whole point. A customer who clears the alarm before calling has thrown away the only diagnostic evidence the machine kept for them.
Thermador lists two cases where it fires with no risk to the food. A machine just put into service with nothing in it, and a large load of fresh food added at once. Its safety instruction is firmer, and worth repeating. Do not refreeze food that has partly or completely thawed, except after cooking.
Access first, because a column comes forward out of a cabinet opening with your own joinery on the front. That gets planned, not improvised.
Then the ice and water path, in the manual’s order: production setting, bin seating, temperature, supply pressure, hose, filter. Then the machine’s self-test, which is the only diagnostic this platform offers, because Thermador publishes no refrigeration fault codes at all.
Then the sealed system, if that is genuinely where it has gone, which is where the EPA-608 certification stops being a formality.
Thermador freezer column repair covers a standalone freezer cabinet, panel-ready or stainless. That means the Thermador 24 inch freezer column and the Thermador 18 inch freezer column.
A Thermador freezer not working, a Thermador freezer column not cooling and a Thermador freezer temperature fluctuating all start in one place. The door, the load and the room. Thermador freezer ice buildup and a Thermador freezer door not sealing are usually the same fault seen from two sides.
Beyond that the parts list is short and physical. A door gasket, an evaporator fan motor, a thermistor. On the sealed refrigeration side, an evaporator coil, a condenser and the refrigerant charge. Thermador freezer compressor repair and Thermador freezer control board repair sit at the expensive end, and both get a straight recommendation before anything is ordered.
Thermador freezer defrost repair is the one to describe carefully. NoFrost machines run automatic defrost hardware, a defrost heater, a defrost thermostat and a defrost timer or defrost control among it.
Thermador publishes no fault causes for any of that, so we diagnose it on the machine rather than from a list. Anyone handing you a Thermador defrost fault table has written it themselves.
Format matters more than collection here. A Thermador Masterpiece freezer and a Thermador Professional freezer differ in handle and panel system, and both sit inside the Freedom Collection freezer line. Tell us which you have, because it decides what comes off the front. A Thermador freezer making noise is worth a call when the sound is new.
Every repair carries a 100-day labor warranty, and we source Thermador parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. Coverage across every brand sits on our freezer repair and ice maker repair pages.
The rest of the kitchen is on our Thermador kitchen appliances page, and the brand starts from Thermador appliance repair.
Work Thermador’s own order. Ice production switched on, bin fully inserted, freezer cold enough, water supply and pressure, hose not kinked, filter not overdue. Only after all six is it a part, and a dead ice maker with no power is a service call.
Usually the counter, not the machine. The water filter counter is a menu setting that resets independently of the physical filter, so it can still be warning after you changed it. Check the supply pressure too, because a partly closed valve behaves like a failed ice maker.
About 24 hours from power on to the first ice, and roughly 72 hours to full production. After that, 70 to 120 cubes a day. New installations get judged too early more often than they fail.
No. Thermador states that the NoFrost system keeps the compartment frost-free and that defrosting is no longer required. Visible frost means the automatic system is not working, or the door is not sealing.
By design. The front of the housing is slightly heated to stop condensation forming around the door seal. It is in the manual, and it is not a fault.
Also by design. Closing the door leaves a slight low pressure inside, and the manual asks you to wait for it to equalise. Forcing it is how door seals get damaged.
Check the free things first. Door sealing, vents clear, nothing warm loaded, temperature set where you think it is. Call us when it still will not hold, when the temperature alarm keeps firing, or when frost has appeared on a NoFrost cabinet.
There are none. Thermador publishes fault codes for nine appliance categories and refrigeration is not one of them. The only structured table on this platform is the ice maker one above, and the machine’s own self-test.
It moves with the fault and the format, so one figure would be a guess. A door gasket and a sealed-system repair are not the same job. We diagnose first, quote second, and you decide before any part is ordered.
Usually more so than on most appliances. A column is built into your cabinetry with your own panel on the front, so replacing it is joinery as well as appliance cost. A failed sealed system on an old cabinet is where that answer changes.
We publish no figure, because Thermador does not, and every number circulating online is unsourced. Door sealing, ventilation and how hard the room works the machine decide it more than the badge does.
Yes, both. The specification sheet tells you which you have, internal ice maker or external dispenser, and it changes which parts we bring. Tell us when you book.
The whole metro, from the city out through the surrounding suburbs. Coverage for the city itself sits on our appliance repair in Denver page. Searching Thermador freezer repair near me from anywhere in the metro reaches the same team.
Check that ice production is switched on and the bin is fully seated, then give a new machine its 24 hours. If it still will not produce, book a visit.
