Four different machines sit behind that heading, and Whirlpool builds them on separate platforms. A range, a built-in wall oven, a cooktop and a range hood share a kitchen and little else.
They fault differently and carry different paperwork, and one publishes no fault codes at all. This page sorts out which you have, then hands you on.
Brand wide questions sit on our Whirlpool brand page.
The model number settles it faster than the shape does. Whirlpool publishes documents per machine, so the plate string picks the manual and the parts list. Some carry a feature name instead of a code, such as a Whirlpool AccuBake range.
Where that plate sits is not consistent. A Whirlpool gas cooktop carries it under the base, and a Whirlpool electric cooktop with knobs behind the control panel. For a Whirlpool wall oven, the manual and the model finder name two places.
Whirlpool range repair takes the freestanding and slide-in machines, and Whirlpool wall oven repair every built-in cavity. Whirlpool cooktop repair covers a drop-in surface alone, down to a Whirlpool cooktop igniter that will not spark. Whirlpool range hood repair takes the ventilation above, and our oven repair page covers other brands.
| Machine | Model starts | Fuel |
|---|---|---|
| Range, freestanding or slide-in | WFG, WFE, WSGS, WSES, WGG, WGE | Gas, electric, one induction |
| Built-in wall oven | WOE, and older WOS, WOD, WOC | Electric on all 35 current models |
| Cooktop | WCG, WCE, WCC, WCI | Gas or electric, and induction we do not take |
| Range hood | UXT, UXD, WVU, WVW, WVI, GXW | Electric, 120 volt circuit |
A Whirlpool gas range not igniting is an ignition and supply problem. A Whirlpool electric range that will not heat is a circuit, element and control problem. Why is my Whirlpool range not heating is the call we take most, and it splits by fuel first.
Ranges and cooktops come both ways, but every one of the 35 current Whirlpool wall ovens we checked is electric. A Whirlpool range hood runs on a 120 volt circuit, and Whirlpool sells no dual fuel range at all.
Fuel also decides whether there is anything on a display to read. A Whirlpool gas cooktop publishes no error codes, and no Whirlpool hood document we pulled contains a code table.
Owners book that arrangement as one machine, and the paperwork disagrees. Two model numbers, two manuals, two warranty documents, and on this site two pages.
It carries an approval rule most owners have never heard of. Whirlpool’s manual says the cooktop must be approved for installation over an undercounter built-in oven. The oven has to be approved too, and both approvals live on labels rather than in the manual.
If the label is not there, the cooktop may not be approved for use over an oven. Whirlpool keeps a separate approval list for induction. Finding both labels before a visit saves a return trip.
Whirlpool’s Major Appliance Limited Warranty runs from the date of delivery, not the date of purchase. Parts and labor are both included for the first twelve months.
Nothing in this branch has a second tier. The two to five year block names sealed refrigeration parts on two refrigerator families, and no burner, element, latch or blower appears on it.
Which document governs is decided by the model number, not the appliance type. The hood set alone runs to five documents, and the range documents disagree about when the clock starts.
Our own labor warranty runs 100 days, separately from anything Whirlpool covers.
Cabinetry and trim work needed to reach a trapped machine is excluded, which catches wall ovens and hoods.
Named parts such as a Whirlpool range hood filter and a light bulb are never covered.
Whirlpool says outside servicers and non genuine parts do not void it.
Whirlpool’s cooking documents mention height above sea level in four places, and the numbers do not agree. Each belongs to a different machine and document, so none transfers. Denver Metro sits at roughly 5,280 feet.
Two of them are Whirlpool’s own and sit 560 feet apart. The cooktop manual says no high altitude conversion is necessary up to 6,000 feet, while the kit is sold above 6,560 feet. Denver is below both, so no orifice change is called for.
The 2,000 foot sentence gets misread. It states the plate’s input ratings up to that height, which is not a service requirement.
| Figure | Document | What it means here |
|---|---|---|
| 2,000 ft | Gas range and gas cooktop rating sections | The plate figures are stated to this height |
| 6,000 ft | The gas cooktop manual | No conversion is necessary below it, and Denver sits below |
| 6,560 ft | The high altitude conversion kit | For elevations above this, and it holds cooktop orifices only |
| No figure | Wall ovens, electric ranges and cooktops, hood documents | Whirlpool publishes nothing, and the silence is the finding |
Three things are worth settling before anyone books, and none of them costs anything. Read the whole model number off the plate. Note whether it burns gas or runs on electricity. Say whether the cooktop and oven are one appliance or two.
That last one changes the visit. In my experience the calls that go wrong are booked as a range when the kitchen has a cooktop over a wall oven. The technician then arrives with the wrong assumptions about access and supply.
Past that point the work needs instruments and gas training. Our technicians are insured, and we source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts.
We work on Whirlpool ranges, wall ovens, cooktops and range hoods across the Denver Metro Area.
Each of the four has its own page, linked above. The model number on the rating plate is what tells you which of them you need.
If it is built into a cabinet, use the wall oven page. If it is the lower half of a freestanding or slide-in machine, use the range page.
The first answer is the same on both: ignition on gas, element or control on electric. How to calibrate a Whirlpool oven, for heat that is wrong rather than absent, sits on the oven page.
Two, with two model numbers and two warranty documents. Whirlpool also requires the pair to be an approved combination, printed on labels.
A Whirlpool slide in range is the single appliance version, and a Whirlpool double oven range puts two cavities in one body.
Induction cooktops sit outside what we service, and that is the one exclusion here.
Whirlpool’s induction cooktop models start WCI or WCIT, so the prefix answers it before booking. Its single induction range is a different machine and we do take those.
One year, parts and labor, running from the date of delivery.
There is no second tier for any cooking appliance, because the two to five year block covers sealed refrigeration only.
It depends on the cleaning system your model has, and Whirlpool ships more than one here. A high heat cycle locks the door and a steam cycle does not.
Whirlpool asks for distilled water on the steam cycles, because tap water leaves mineral deposits on the oven bottom.
Tell us the model number and what it is doing. We will tell you what it usually is.
