Electric and Gas Amana Dryers in Denver Metro Homes

An electric Amana dryer that tumbles but stays cold may have nothing wrong inside it. Amana’s first no-heat check is your fuses or breakers. Past that, the model number on the plate tells us the fuel, whether the dryer can show a code, and which Amana guide applies. Wilson & Myers does Amana dryer repair on gas and electric models in homes across Denver Metro.

Five Amana Dryer Families and What Each One Shows

How to fix Amana dryer faults depends on the family, so match your model number to the table below first. Only two families show codes on a display. The other three show a fault as behavior. If the washer beside it is an Amana too, our Amana laundry appliances page points to the washer and the dryer pages.

Where to Find the Model Number on an Amana Dryer

Open the door and check the door well first. For the NED4655E and NGD4655E, Amana’s manuals page points inside the door, to the upper left of the front panel. For those two, another Amana guide adds the upper left of the cabinet back and, on the gas NGD4655E, behind the access panel. On the NED5800H and NGD5800H, the plate runs along the bottom of the shroud, in front of the lint screen.

Read every character. On an Amana dryer, NED4655EW is one full model number, and we order parts against all of it. On gas models, the rating plate names the burner’s fuel, which must match your home’s supply.

On the AED4600TW and AGD4600TW, a QR code on the serial tag registers the dryer and opens Amana’s warranty information.

PF, L2, F Codes and Check Vent on Electronic Amana Dryers

Amana dryer troubleshooting by code covers two families only. The documents we read print no codes for the NED4655E, NGD4655E, AED4600TW, AGD4600TW or the timer dryers. On those, a fault shows as behavior: no start, no heat, no tumble or a damp load.

The two tables below give Amana’s display meanings for the NED5800H and NGD5800H, then for the older NED7500V and NGD7500V. Neither guide decodes F codes for owners. Their instruction is to call for service, which is where our diagnosis starts.

Display codes Amana prints in the NED5800H and NGD5800H Use and Care Guide

PFA power failure interrupted the drying cycle.Touch and hold START to restart, or touch POWER to clear the display.
L2Low or no line voltage: the home’s supply may be keeping the heater off. Amana notes it shows only during initial installation.Touch any pad to clear it. Check for a blown fuse or tripped breaker, two on an electric model, and the power cord. Then run a heated Timed Dry cycle. Call a qualified electrician if it persists.

Amana Dryer Not Heating? Amana Starts at the Breaker

Amana’s no-heat checks are short. On an electric model, the first is in your electrical panel. An electric dryer runs on two household fuses or circuit breakers, and Amana warns the drum may keep turning with no heat. Replace both fuses or reset the breaker.

If an electric model stays cold, Amana’s guides for the AED4600TW, NED5800H, NED7500V and timer models say to call an electrician. The manual Amana files for the NED4655E says to contact a qualified technician instead. That is our job.

On a gas model, Amana’s first check is that the supply line valve is open. A gas Amana dryer not getting hot with that valve open needs a technician.

Amana’s documents for the gas AGD4600TW and NGD4655E print an altitude rule. It starts above 2,000 ft. For each 1,000 ft increase in elevation, they require a 4% reduction of the burner BTU rating on the plate. When we diagnose a heat fault on a gas dryer, we check that its burner was set up for the altitude.

In the guides we read, the heating element is the only electric heat part Amana names. They mention it to say a new one may smell on its first cycle. That is normal.

Past that, Amana’s documents go quiet. The guides we have read never name an Amana dryer thermostat, an igniter, a reset button or a thermal fuse. They stop at the house supply and the gas supply valve, and the rest is a service call.

If your Amana dryer won’t heat with both breakers on or the gas supply valve open, our technician tests what sits behind those checks. Before any Amana dryer heating element replacement, we confirm the supply at the dryer itself. Amana checks the breaker first. So do we.

When an Amana Dryer Won’t Start or Turn On

Amana’s list for a dryer that will not run names no internal part. An Amana dryer not turning on at all starts with these six checks. Past them, call us.

  1. Door: close it completely. Amana lists a door that is not fully shut as a cause.
  2. Start: press it firmly. Amana’s AED4600TW guide shows how to start Amana dryers of that model: hold the Push To Start knob until you hear the drum moving.
  3. Electronic panel: on the NED5800H and NGD5800H, touch and hold START while the display counts 3-2-1. Check for Loc or PF too. On the older NED7500V and NGD7500V, a large load may need START held 2 to 5 seconds.
  4. House power: check for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker. Amana also lists the wrong fuse type. It asks for a time-delay fuse. If the problem continues, Amana’s AED4600TW guide says to call an electrician.
  5. Power cord: on US electric models, Amana lists an incorrectly installed cord. The NED4655E ships without a cord. If the Amana dryer won’t turn on after a move, our dryer hook-up service rechecks the cord and outlet.
  6. Timer models: the YNED4500VQ will not start in the Wrinkle Prevent position. Amana says to move the dial past OFF.

A Drum That Won’t Turn, and the Noises Amana Calls Normal

An Amana dryer not starting is one fault. A drum that stays still with the power on and the door shut is another. The Amana guides we read print no owner step for it.

That is where our technician tests the Amana dryer door switch and works back to the motor. An Amana dryer not spinning but heating is past those owner checks too.

Is your Amana dryer making noise when spinning after a period of non-use? Amana’s AED4600TW guide calls thumping in the first minutes normal. A coin or clip caught at the drum edge, a dryer that is not level or a balled-up load also makes noise. Amana’s website adds a washer touching the dryer.

An Amana dryer squeaking or scraping after those checks is ours to open up. If the washer is the noisy one, our Amana washer page covers its lights and codes.

Damp Loads and the Checks Amana Lists First

An Amana dryer not drying a normal load sends you, in Amana’s own list, to the lint screen and the vent. Start with Amana’s hood test. Run the dryer for 5 to 10 minutes, then hold your hand under the outside exhaust hood. Little or no air means lint is clogging the vent or hood.

The NED4655E and NGD4655E judge dryness their own way. Amana’s spec sheets say temperature sensors end their Automatic Dry, and the gas model’s product data lists no moisture sensor. After the vent checks, a damp load on either sends our technician to that temperature sensing.

  1. Lint screen: clean it before every load. Never run the dryer with the screen loose, damaged, blocked or missing. Amana warns that can cause overheating. Every 6 months, or when residue clogs it, wash it with a nylon brush, hot water and detergent.
  2. Cycle and load: make sure an Air Dry cycle is not selected and the load is not too large. Use one fabric softener sheet only.
  3. Vent size and type: 4-inch metal only, never plastic or foil, and no longer than the chart in the next section allows.
  4. Room temperature: Amana sets 45°F as the minimum. Amana’s AGD4600TW guide says colder rooms can keep automatic cycles running long.
  5. Closet: the doors need openings at the top and bottom. Amana wants 1 inch of air at the front and, for most installations, 5 inches at the rear.
  6. Level: on sensor models such as the NED5800H and NGD5800H, a dryer that is not level keeps clothes off the moisture sensors.

Check Vent, AF and the Vent Limits Amana Prints

On the NED5800H and NGD5800H, the Check Vent light comes on during an Automatic cycle when the dryer detects low airflow. The older NED7500V and NGD7500V show AF instead. Both keep running, but Amana warns that poor airflow lengthens drying. If the warning stays after the lint and vent checks, Amana says to have your entire home venting run cleaned.

Our dryer vent cleaning service does that job when the vent exits through an outside wall within ladder reach.

Amana’s AED4600TW and AGD4600TW guides set the vent rules. They call for 4-inch heavy metal vent, rigid where possible. Flexible metal must be fully extended, reachable for cleaning and never inside walls, ceilings or floors, with 7 3/4 ft at most.

The outside hood must sit at least 12 inches clear of the ground or anything that could block it, such as snow. Magnetic-latch hoods are out.

Their chart below tops out at 64 ft, the same maximum Amana’s spec sheets give the NED4655E and NGD4655E. Longer runs shorten the dryer’s life, Amana says. Its warranty excludes service calls caused by improper venting, whoever installed the dryer. Amana’s guides ask for the vent to be cleared of lint at least every 2 years.

Amana’s website goes further and recommends a professional vent cleaning once a year.

When to Call Wilson & Myers

Do Amana’s checks first: fuses or breakers, the gas supply valve, the door, a held Start, the lint screen and the hood test. None of them needs tools. On an electronic model, read the display against the tables above.

I usually start an Amana dryer no heat call at the breaker panel or the gas supply valve, where Amana’s own guides start. Past the house wiring, the rest is ours. On a cold electric dryer we test the element, the Amana dryer thermal fuse and the thermostats. On a gas dryer, we test the igniter and the gas valve coils.

A drum that will not turn sends us to the belt, the idler, the drum rollers and the Amana dryer motor. A dryer that will not start sends us to the door switch, the Amana dryer start switch and the control. Any F code is ours as well.

We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. We fit OEM parts when the supplier has the right one. That is why we ask for the full model number: a heating element for Amana dryers, like any other part, is ordered against it. All our technicians are insured.

Have the model number, the fuel and any display code ready. Then book a repair online.

Amana’s One-Year Dryer Warranty and the Recall Question

Every Amana dryer warranty we checked covers one year, parts and labor, and nothing after it. The 2023 text for the NED4655E, NGD4655E, NED5800H and NGD5800H starts that year at delivery. Inside it, the free route is Amana’s own warranty service, through the contact printed on your Amana warranty. We are not part of it.

Amana’s 2023 texts also say that using an outside servicer or third-party parts will not void the warranty, though damage they cause is excluded. The 2019 text filed for the NED4655E and NGD4655E lacks that sentence. Read the warranty that came with your dryer.

Amana Dryer Repair FAQ

  • Is there an Amana dryer reset button?

None of the Amana dryer guides we have read mentions a reset button on the dryer. Every reset they print is the circuit breaker, or restarting a cycle.

Amana’s answer to how to reset Amana dryer power: on an electric model, replace both household fuses or reset the circuit breaker. On a gas model, check its one 120-volt circuit. On the NED5800H and NGD5800H, PF after a power cut clears with START or POWER.

  • Why is my Amana dryer not heating up while the drum still turns?

On an electric model, Amana’s first answer is the house supply: replace both fuses or reset the breaker. If it stays cold, the AED4600TW, NED5800H, NED7500V and timer guides say to call an electrician. The NED4655E manual says a qualified technician.

On a gas model, open the supply line valve. If the drum still turns cold with the valve open, that is a repair for our technician.

Either way, we check the supply at the dryer first, then test inside the cabinet.

  • Where is the thermal fuse on an Amana dryer?

The Amana dryer guides we read never name a thermal fuse. Nor do they show where one sits. We find the Amana dryer fuse location on your model at the visit, then test the thermal fuse there.

On the house side, an electric Amana dryer runs on two household fuses or breakers. Replace both or reset the breaker before you book.

  • Can I replace the belt on an Amana dryer myself?

The Amana guides we read print no belt procedure and never name a drive belt. That leaves no Amana method to follow.

Amana dryer belt replacement is our job. When the drum will not turn, we test the belt, then the idler, the rollers and the motor. We order a belt for Amana dryers against the full model number on your plate, so have it ready when you book.

  • Is clicking from a gas Amana dryer normal?

Yes. Amana calls gas valve clicking a normal operating sound, and its own article says it can happen many times in a cycle.

Clicking with no heat at all is different. Check that the gas supply valve is open, and if the drum still turns cold, book a repair.

  • Why is my Amana dryer timer not working on an automatic cycle?

On the older YNED4500VQ, it may be working as designed. Amana’s instructions say the timer moves only when the clothing is mostly dry during Automatic Drying.

If the dryer will not start with the dial moved past OFF, that is a repair we take on. So is a timer that never advances on a timed cycle.
