Amana Top-Load and Front-Load Washers in Denver Metro Homes

Amana’s guides for its NTW4519J and NTW4516F top-loads print no error codes; a status light that stays on names the step that failed. Front-loads such as NFW5800H show display messages instead. Either way, Amana washer repair starts at the model plate and that light or message, because those two decide which guide applies.

Which Amana Washer You Own, Model by Model

Amana’s guides describe several washer families, and the family decides how a machine reports trouble. Find the model on the plate, then match it to the list below. Dryers are not on this list. Our Amana dryer page covers them, and the Amana laundry page sorts the washer and the dryer side by side.

  • NTW4519J: top-load with a high-efficiency agitator, knob controls and status lights, and no display.
  • NTW4516F: top-load with a dual action agitator, dial controls and status lights.
  • Older status-light top-loads: NTW4605EW and NTW4615EW, along with NTW4635EW and NTW4655EW.
  • Older timer top-loads: NTW4500XQ and NTW4800XQ, plus NTW5100TQ, with a mechanical timer knob and no lights or codes.
  • NFW5800H: front-load with touch controls and a display that shows time remaining and messages.
  • Older electronic front-loads: NFW5800DW and NFW7300WW, which print true fault codes.

Where the Model Plate Sits on an Amana Washer

On a top-load, lift the lid. Look first at the rear of the tub opening. Another Amana guide also lists the underside of the lid and the back of the cabinet. On a front-load, look first inside the door, along the outer left edge.

The serial tag on an Amana washer NTW4516FW or NTW4519JW carries a QR code; scanning it registers the washer and opens its warranty information.

Copy both numbers in full, every letter and digit. Amana washer troubleshooting depends on them, because lights, codes and warranty texts differ by model.

Amana Top-Load Status Lights, Not Error Codes

For NTW4519J, the Amana washer troubleshooting manual is its Use and Care Guide, and it prints no code table. It reports trouble with status lights instead. The guides for NTW4516F and the older status-light top-loads give the Wash, spin and Lid Locked lights the same meanings. On any of them, an Amana washer not filling with water keeps its Wash light on.

NTW4519J status lights, not fault codes, from its Use and Care Guide
LightWhat the guide says it meansWhat to check first
Wash light stays onThe washer could not fill appropriatelyBoth faucets fully on; both hoses attached with water flowing and no kinks; inlet valve screens clear; lid closed; load not packed tight
Final Spin light stays onThe washer could not pump out the water within 10 minutesDrain hose depth and height; small items caught in the pump; a packed load; too much detergent, cleared with Rinse/Spin and no detergent
Lid Locked light flashingThe lid is not closed, or the cycle was stopped or paused with the buttonClose the lid; after a pause, wait for the basket to stop, which can take several minutes with large loads
Sense and Wash lights lit together brieflyThe washer found an out-of-balance load and is redistributing itNormal; if it repeats, level the washer and load items loosely. Do not wash water-resistant or water-repellent clothing; the guide warns the imbalance can cause injury or damage.

Amana Washer Error Codes and Messages on the Front-Loads

Amana washing machine troubleshooting on a front-load starts at the display. In the eight documents Amana files for NFW5800H, we found two trouble messages and no code list. The first table below gives both.

The older NFW5800DW and NFW7300WW print true Amana washer codes. The same fault looks different on each. On NFW5800DW, the drain pump system error reads F9 followed by E1. NFW7300WW runs it together as F9E1.

Amana’s help site lists washer codes without naming the models they apply to, so we check any code against your model’s own guide.

What Amana’s Guides Explain, Before You Book

Several Amana washer problems are not problems at all, by the guides’ own account. The rebalancing pause in the top-load table is one. The list below holds others, each tied to its model. If your Amana washer keeps draining before the wash ends, start with the first item.

Each becomes a reason to book when it happens outside the condition its guide names. A pump-out with the lid shut is one example.

  • Water pumped out mid-cycle (NTW4519J and NTW4516F): the lid stayed open more than 10 minutes, so the washer canceled the cycle and drained.
  • A click and hum as spin starts (NTW4519J): the lid lock running its self-test.
  • Clothes not fully under water (NTW4519J and NFW5800DW): normal on these high-efficiency washers, per both guides.
  • Rolling, sloshing or clicking on slow spin (NFW5800DW): steel balls in the balancing system settling the load.
  • Washer off before the cycle starts (NFW7300WW): it shuts down when START/PAUSE is not pressed within 5 minutes of choosing a cycle.

Amana Washer Not Spinning or Not Draining

On the status-light top-loads, NTW4519J and NTW4516F, both faults share one signal. There, an Amana washer not draining within 10 minutes keeps its Final Spin light on, and the load stays wet. On either model, if your Amana washer won’t spin and the clothes are still soaked, read that light first. Timer models have no lights at all.

When an NFW5800DW Amana washer won’t drain and stays locked with water inside at cycle end, its guide says to select Drain & Spin. The door unlocks when the drain ends.

What some call an Amana washer lid switch is, in the NTW4519J guide, a lid lock that locks before spin. Past the checks below, an Amana washing machine not spinning is a parts question. We then look at the drain pump, the lid lock and, on the belt-drive NTW4519J and NTW4516F, the Amana washing machine belt. Run the guide’s own checks first.

  1. Hose depth: the Amana washer drain hose goes no more than 4.5 inches into the standpipe, with no tape over the opening.
  2. Hose height: lower the hose if its end sits higher than 96 inches above the floor, and clear any clog.
  3. Load: rearrange a tightly packed or unbalanced load, then select Drain/Spin to remove the water.
  4. Detergent: after an overdose, run Rinse/Spin and add no detergent.
  5. Lid: if the Lid Locked light flashes with the lid shut, Amana.com says to wipe the lock striker with a damp cloth.
  6. Pockets: coins and small items can fall between basket and tub or block the pump, and removing them may take a service call.

Amana Washer Stuck on Sensing, Fill or Wash

During Sensing, NTW4519J senses the load size, picks a water level and runs a series of spins to check balance. Clicks and whirring at that stage are normal. Opening the lid then makes the reading less accurate. On NTW4516F, Auto Sensing fills until the load engages the Amana washer agitator, then the control senses the load.

Amana’s help article says the first fill can take 1 1/2 to 5 minutes. Inside that window, an Amana washer stuck on sensing fill may simply be early.

The same article explains one reason an Amana washer keeps trying to drain and ignores the buttons: no water for 13 minutes. If an Amana washer seems stuck on a drain cycle, that routine runs about 8 to 10 minutes. Wait it out, then check both faucets.

With the Wash light on, an Amana washer stuck on wash could not fill appropriately, in the NTW4519J guide’s words. The guide ties the same light to a washer that will not run or stops partway. That makes an Amana washer not agitating with the light lit a fill problem first. Start with the table’s supply checks.

On the front-load side, the NFW7300WW guide ties its F8E1 long fill to one more check: hot and cold hoses not reversed. Amana’s help article on water problems adds that anti-flood devices reduce flow, which matters for an Amana washing machine not filling with water. Replace hoses older than five years.

A blinking Sensing/Fill light on an Amana washer is a signal we read at the machine, rather than guess at.

How to Reset Amana Washer Models, Guide by Guide

There is no single Amana washer reset, and a panel that ignores every button may simply be locked. NFW5800H locks and unlocks with a 3-second touch and hold on Extra Rinse. NFW5800DW counts down 3, 2, 1 as it locks.

For an Amana washer not turning on, the NTW4519J guide’s power checks apply: a grounded outlet, no adapter, no extension cord, no tripped breaker. Its warning says breaking these outlet rules can cause death, fire or electrical shock. Amana’s help article on why an Amana washer won’t start adds the GFCI and a selector knob turned fully onto a cycle. A dead panel after that is ours.

How to reset an Amana washer depends on the model, because each guide prints its own steps. Each one is listed below. A reset that brings the same code back is the case the NFW5800DW and NFW7300WW guides send to service.

  • NTW4519J: its guide prints no Amana washing machine reset codes to enter. Its guide’s cancel step is a press and hold on START/PAUSE/UNLOCK LID/CANCEL, which pumps out the water.
  • NTW4516F: press and hold START/PAUSE/UNLOCK LID for 3 seconds to cancel. After a power loss, its settings return to factory defaults.
  • NFW5800H: unplug the washer for 30 seconds, then plug it back in, to return to factory default cycle settings.
  • NFW5800DW: the Amana washer reset code step is one touch of POWER once the cause is corrected; then reselect and restart the cycle.
  • NFW7300WW: once the cause is corrected, press START/PAUSE once to clear the code and again to restart. For other F and E codes, the guide’s own row says to press POWER to cancel and clear.

When to Call Wilson & Myers

Amana’s own guides mark where the owner’s checks end. Items caught in the pump may need a service call, in the guides’ words. On the coded front-loads, a code that comes back after the clear goes to service too. Amana’s front-load guides say a front-loader that must move needs new transport bolts, never the old ones.

I usually start with the model plate and the light or code you saw, because those two decide which guide applies. From there we test the parts behind the fault, such as the Amana washer drain pump, the lid lock or the inlet valve. The Amana washer control board comes last.

Past those checks, an Amana washer not working needs a diagnosis. We do Amana washer lid lock replacement. Drain pump and control faults are ours too. A dead outlet or a tripping breaker is an electrician’s job, as the NTW4519J guide says.

Our insured technicians cover the Denver Metro Area for Amana washing machine repair. We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. Book a repair online with the model number ready. Describe the sound when you book if you hear an Amana washer making noise, no lights on the panel.

Amana’s One-Year Washer Warranty and Who Does the Work

The Amana washer warranties we checked each give one year of parts and labor, with no longer term on any part. Inside that year, the free route is Amana’s warranty service, through the contact printed on your Amana warranty. We are not that service. After the year, the repair is yours to buy and ours to do.

Amana’s 2023 warranty texts add one line. Filed for NFW5800H as well as NTW4516F and NTW4519J, they say a servicer outside Amana’s network or third-party parts “will not void this warranty”. Damage that work causes is excluded. Older texts we read lack that sentence, and which text covers your washer depends on when it was bought.

Every text we read excludes a washer whose model or serial number is removed or unreadable, so keep the plate legible. The 2023 texts also exclude household plumbing and electrical repairs, which leaves a standpipe or outlet fault outside any claim. They require proof of purchase. Under the 2023 texts, the year starts at delivery; the older texts we read count it from the date of purchase.

The Amana dryer warranties we checked carry the same one-year term, and the Amana laundry page routes both machines.

Amana Washer Repair FAQ

  • Will unplugging an Amana washer reset it?

On two models it restores default settings, and neither guide calls that clearing a fault. NFW5800H returns to its factory default cycle settings after 30 seconds unplugged, and NTW4516F’s settings return to defaults after a power loss. A returning light or code still needs a diagnosis.

  • What does an Amana washer stuck on lid lock mean, and how do I reset it?

On NTW4519J, the Amana washer Lid Locked light glows while the lid is locked and blinks while the cycle is paused. The lid unlocks only after the basket stops. That can take several minutes. If the lid won’t unlock once everything is still, press and hold START/PAUSE/UNLOCK LID/CANCEL to cancel and pump out.

After that, an Amana washer lid lock stuck in the locked position is a fault for a technician.

  • Is there a recall on the Amana washer?

No. CPSC’s recall database names no Amana washer; we checked it in October 2026. The brand’s recalls on record cover other appliances, and our main Amana page lists them.

  • Are there Amana washer diagnostic mode codes?

Not in the Amana owner documents we read. None of those washer guides prints a diagnostic, service or calibration mode. We work from the lights or codes your model does print, then test the parts.

  • Does an Amana washer have a drain pump filter I can clean?

The guides we read for the NTW4519J top-load and the NFW5800DW and NFW7300WW front-loads show no owner pump filter. In them, items in the pump may need service. Amana’s manual for NFW5800H shows a filter only on some models, so we check the machine itself first.

  • How to start Amana washer cycles on the NFW5800H?

Touch and hold Start/Pause for 3 seconds, until the light above it comes on. If nothing responds, check Control Lock. Extra Rinse, held for 3 seconds, releases it.

  • Is there Amana washer repair near me across the Denver Metro Area?
