If every burner on your Maytag cooktop clicks and only one lights, nothing is broken. That is how the system was built, and Maytag says so in its own words. Give a damp burner an hour to dry before booking anything.
A dead surface element is different, and it is a quick job. We measure it against the manufacturer’s figure, which separates a failed element from a failed switch in about five minutes.
Wilson & Myers covers Maytag stove and range repair across the Denver Metro Area with insured technicians and a 100-day labor warranty.
Maytag encodes the machine into the model number and publishes the decode itself. Two letters answer most of what a technician needs before arriving.
Maytag’s own literature names MER8800FZ and MGR8800FZ as one freestanding range in two fuels, with a separate wiring diagram for each. MET8800FZ and MET8720DS are double-oven ranges. That pairing is the reason Maytag gas stove repair and Maytag electric stove repair are genuinely different visits on machines that look identical.
A Maytag range and a Maytag stove are the same appliance under two names. The cooktop on top and the oven cavity underneath share one cabinet, one control board and one service manual. That is why we ask which half stopped working.
This is the fact that separates a Maytag cooktop from any other. The surface has a thermal limiter that opens to protect it, and Maytag’s own charts give it a different temperature on each control generation.
| Control platform | Limiter opens at | How diagnostics is entered |
|---|---|---|
| Maxwell and MRC | 1050 F | CANCEL, CANCEL, START |
| LCC and LCX | 1040 F on the LCX chart | CANCEL, CANCEL, START |
| Indigo | 1100 F | Touch screen, through the service menu |
Three platforms, three numbers, fifty degrees apart. Anyone publishing one figure for a Maytag cooktop limiter is quoting a chart that may not be yours. We read the platform first and the number second.
The same three platforms carry three separate fault-code tables, and the codes disagree across them. Those tables live on our Maytag oven repair page in full, because most of the codes report on the oven cavity rather than the surface.
The most common Maytag gas cooktop call is not a fault, and Maytag says so in its own words. Only the burner whose knob is turned to LITE produces a flame, but all surface burners click.
That is how the system is built. One spark module fires every electrode together, so a working Maytag cooktop sounds exactly like a broken one to somebody who has not been told.
Two more causes are also normal. Burners click when damp after cleaning or a spillover, and Maytag suggests drying the burner and the control-knob shaft with cool air. On models with reignition, the system sparks to relight a flame that a draft blew out and stops once it returns.
When the clicking genuinely will not stop, our guide to a gas stove that clicks without lighting works the whole pattern through. Maytag gas range repair on our side starts at the spark module. It is tested at 120 volts across line and neutral, with one knob turned to LITE.
On an electric machine we measure rather than guess, and the manual gives the range. A single Maytag cooktop element reads 23 to 83 ohms nominal at 240 volts.
| Component | What the manual gives | What a reading outside it means |
|---|---|---|
| Cooktop element, single | 23 to 83 ohms at 240 volts | Open circuit is the element itself |
| Surface burner spark module | 120 volts, line to neutral | No spark at any burner points here |
| Hot-surface indicator limiter | Normally open, closes near 150 F | The light can fail while the element works |
A Maytag surface element not working splits quickly against that first figure. Open circuit means the element. In range but dead means the switch, the wiring or the control. That is a five-minute answer with a meter and a guess without one.
Radiant, coil and Ceran surfaces all wire back to the same control on these machines. There is also a normally-open limiter that closes around 150 F to light the hot-surface indicator. That is why the light can fail while the element works perfectly.
Maytag cooktop repair on a standalone unit is a slightly different job. Most carry no display, so there is no code to read and the diagnosis runs entirely by symptom and measurement.
Clicking burners are usually normal, and a burner left damp after cleaning clicks until it dries. Give it an hour before booking anything.
Call us when one surface element stays dead, when no burner sparks at all, or when a cooktop stays live with the knob turned off. That last one is a safety call rather than a convenience one.
Book online with the badge to hand. MER or MGR settles the fuel, and the control platform settles which chart your limiter is on.
If the surface works and the oven does not, you are on the wrong page and we would rather say so than pad this one.
Maytag publishes a specific answer for that complaint on gas machines, and it is not a broken part. A second shut-off valve at the pressure regulator feeds the cooktop while starving the oven, and most owners do not know it exists.
Oven-cavity faults, the three code tables, self-clean behaviour, the door lock and temperature calibration all sit on our Maytag oven repair page. The rest of the cooking line is on our Maytag cooking appliances page.
Maytag gates the diagnosis before any component is touched. On an electric range nothing proceeds outside ten percent above and fifteen percent below 240 volts at the outlet. On a gas range the same gate applies at 120 volts.
Then the platform, because it decides which chart applies. Then the measurements. The element against 23 to 83 ohms and the spark module at 120 volts. Then the limiter, against whichever of the three temperatures belongs to your control.
Every repair carries a 100-day labor warranty, and we source Maytag parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. Maytag stove repair service and Maytag range repair run from the same team and the same schedule.
Coverage across every brand sits on our stove and cooktop repair and cooktop repair pages. The whole brand starts from our Maytag appliance repair page.
Yes, in both fuels and every form factor Maytag builds: freestanding, slide-in, drop-in and double-oven. Maytag electric range repair and Maytag gas range repair are both routine. Tell us the model badge and we will know which manual applies.
In practice yes. Both names describe one cabinet holding a cooktop and an oven. Maytag’s own literature calls it a range, and its support taxonomy files ranges and wall ovens together while standalone cooktops sit separately.
Almost certainly not. Maytag states that only the burner set to LITE produces a flame while all burners click, because one spark module fires them together. Damp burners after cleaning do the same until they dry.
We measure it. A Maytag cooktop element reads 23 to 83 ohms. An open circuit is the element itself. A reading in range moves us to the switch, the wiring or the control board.
On a gas range check the shut-off valve at the pressure regulator, because closed it supplies the cooktop and not the oven. The full answer is on our Maytag oven repair page.
No. Induction is outside our scope on every brand. A Maytag badge beginning MI is one we decline on the phone rather than after a visit.
Usually. An element, a switch, a spark module or an igniter is routine work on a machine worth keeping. A failed control board on an older range is where the answer changes, and we say so before ordering anything.
The whole metro, from the city out through the surrounding suburbs. Coverage for the city itself sits on our appliance repair in Denver page. Searching Maytag stove repair near me or Maytag range repair near me reaches the same team.
Tell us the badge. MER or MGR settles the fuel, and the control platform settles which chart your cooktop limiter is on.
