Amana Stoves in Denver Metro: Gas, Coil, Smoothtop or 20-Inch

Amana stove repair starts with the model on the plate, because it decides which of Amana’s own checks apply. Every current Amana range is freestanding, with sealed gas burners, coil elements or a radiant smoothtop, and two are only 20 inches wide. One fact first: on an Amana gas range, every surface burner clicks while one knob is on LITE. Only that burner lights, exactly as Amana’s manuals describe.

Which Amana Range Is in Your Kitchen

Amana’s current ranges are all freestanding, gas or electric. The AGR5330BA gas range is a closeout model. Older Amana ranges are in the list too, including the AES6603SF and ACS4303MF slide-ins.

We repair all of them, current or older. This page covers the burners, the elements, the cooktop surface, F codes and the range as a whole. Bake, broil, self-clean and the oven’s display messages belong to our Amana oven page. Our Amana cooking appliances page sets the stove beside the oven inside it.

The fan, light and filters in the hood over your Amana range have a page of their own.

  • Gas, knob oven, broiler drawer: AGR4203MN, the older AGR4230BA and the 20-inch AGG222VD.
  • Gas, keypad oven, broiler drawer: AGR6303MM and the closeout AGR5330BA.
  • Gas, keypad oven, self-cleaning: AGR6603SF and AGR6603SM, which broil inside the oven.
  • Electric coil: AFCS2530T, ACR4303MF, ACR4303MM and the 20-inch AEP222VA, plus the older ACR4503SF, ACR4203MN and ACR2303MF.
  • Electric radiant smoothtop: AER6303MF, AER6303MM, AER6203MS, AER6603SF and AER6603SM.
  • Older slide-in: AES6603SF and ACS4303MF, documented by Amana.

Where the Model Plate Sits on Each Amana Range

Two of Amana’s web guides point to the storage drawer of a freestanding range, but the documents for each class name their own spots. Look first at the spot below. Write down the complete model and serial numbers, which Amana asks for before any service. Clean gently around the plate, because Amana warns that scrubbing can remove the numbers.

Gas Burner Clicking, Not Lighting or Burning Yellow

Clicking from every burner at once is how an Amana gas range lights. Every igniter clicks while one knob is on LITE, and only that burner takes a flame. The clicking stops once the knob leaves LITE.

Amana’s own article adds that a burner can spark in a draft or on its low setting. An Amana stove igniter that stays silent is another matter.

Amana gas stove repair starts with the owner checks Amana prints, listed below. If the burner still does not light after them, the manuals say not to service it yourself. Amana sends it to a trained repair specialist instead. The oven burner and its ignition are covered on our Amana oven page.

Amana’s gas range documents call for a grounded 120 V outlet with correct polarity. The electronic ignition will not operate on an outlet that is not properly polarized.

In Amana’s installation instructions for the AGR4203MN, AGR4230BA, AGR6303MM, AGR5330BA and AGG222VD, the burner ratings on the plate apply up to 2,000 ft. Above that, they drop 4% for each 1,000 ft of elevation. When we diagnose a flame or heat fault on a gas range, we check that the burners were set up for the altitude.

  1. New install or reconnection: turn any one burner knob on to release air from the gas line.
  2. Knob: push it in before you turn it.
  3. Ports: clear a clogged port with a straight pin, never a wooden toothpick, and do not enlarge or distort it.
  4. Cap: check that it sits properly aligned on its base.
  5. AGR6603SF and AGR6603SM: each round burner base is marked with a letter for its size. The small and medium caps differ underneath, so never put the wrong size cap on a base.
  6. No click on an AGR6603: turn the burner off, check the breaker or fuse, and push the knob fully onto the valve shaft.
  • Yellow or noisy flames

Clean the ports and check the caps first. On propane, Amana says the range may have been converted improperly, a job for a trained repair specialist.

  • A popping burner

A wet burner pops, the manuals say. Let it dry before using it again.

  • Pans that rock

Amana’s fix is to level the range and use flat-bottomed cookware.

  • Lifting the cooktop

On sealed-burner models the manuals say not to. Lifting can damage the range and stop it working properly.

Coil or Smoothtop Element Not Heating Right

Coil ranges made from June 2018 use temperature-limiting coils. Amana’s coil guides say cooking times can differ from an older cooktop, with a large pot of water slightly slower to boil. Amana describes the AFCS2530T’s coils as designed to cycle off and on. The guides also set a floor for cookware: no lighter than 1 lb.

On the AFCS2530T, an Amana stove heating element that cycles mid-boil is doing what Amana describes. A dead one is different. Amana’s AEP222VA manual prints two checks for a coil that will not heat. Push the knob in before turning it, and seat the coil fully in its receptacle.

A cold Amana stove element is then ours. We test it, its receptacle and the control behind the knob. An Amana stove not heating up on any burner points at the supply first, covered in the next section.

On the AER smoothtop ranges, a cooking area glows red when it is on, though some parts of it may not glow. Amana calls that normal operation. The element also cycles off and back on, even on Hi, to keep the cooktop from extreme temperatures.

Never cook on cracked glass. Amana’s manual for the 30-inch electric ranges warns that cleaners and spills can reach live parts through a crack. It says to contact a qualified technician immediately.

  • Cooktop On light

Glows whenever a surface knob is on, on the 30-inch coil and smoothtop models.

  • Hot Surface light

On the smoothtop models it stays on until the glass is cool enough to touch, even after the element is off.

  • Replacement coils

Amana’s coil instruction sheet, which covers the AEP222VA, ACR4303MF, ACR4503SF and ACR2303MF, says the pan must press the coil’s center button down.

  • Self-cleaning models

On the self-cleaning electric ranges the cooktop is locked during a cleaning cycle, so the elements will not heat.

Dead Range, F9 or F1 E0 on the Display

The Amana range manuals we read print no table of Amana stove error codes. They give two instructions instead, and the model decides which of them apply.

On the 30-inch electric ranges, F9 or F9 E0 means the home’s outlet may be miswired. Amana’s manual says to disconnect power and have a qualified electrician check the supply. That is a house-wiring call first.

The AGR6303MM and AGR5330BA manuals give one step for an F followed by a number. Press OFF/CANCEL to clear it. If an F code appears again, call a trained repair specialist. The older AES6603SF and ACS4303MF slide-ins print the same step for a letter followed by a number.

The Amana range manuals we read print no meaning for an Amana stove error code F1 E0. The code shows on the oven control. An Amana oven error F1 E0 is the same signal.

Book when a code keeps returning, with the code and the model number in hand. We test before replacing anything, the Amana stove control board included. Loc and PSH are display messages, not F codes. Our Amana oven page explains them.

Start at the supply when nothing works. Amana stove troubleshooting lists the breaker or fuse, a grounded outlet, and on gas models the main and regulator gas shut-offs. On gas models, Amana’s installation documents add that no keypad works if the metal chassis is not grounded. If a fuse or breaker keeps failing, or you doubt the chassis ground, Amana’s documents say to call an electrician.

Amana’s web troubleshooting adds Control Lock, and says you may need to reset power to the range.

If You Smell Gas Near an Amana Range

Amana prints one safety block in every gas range manual we read, under the heading What to do if you smell gas. The steps below are word for word from the manual for the AGR4203MN and AGR4230BA. The same block adds that installation and service must be performed by a qualified installer, service agency or the gas supplier. Follow it before anything else.

  1. Do not try to light any appliance.
  2. Do not touch any electrical switch.
  3. Do not use any phone in your building.
  4. Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions.
  5. If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.

When to Call Wilson & Myers

Run Amana’s own checks first, because several range faults on this page are settings, seating or supply. Book us when they are done and the fault is still there.

What is left after them is ours. That covers an igniter that stays silent, a burner that still will not light, and flames Amana sends to a technician. It covers a coil or smoothtop element that stays cold, cracked glass, and Amana range error codes that return after OFF/CANCEL.

I usually ask for the model number first. The class decides which of Amana’s checks still apply. On an older gas range, I also check the plate against the two recalls below before any work.

We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts, and we fit OEM parts when the supplier has the right one. Every technician we send is insured. Every paid repair carries our 100-day labor warranty on the work on your invoice.

A range inside its first year goes to Amana’s warranty service first. Use the contact printed on your Amana warranty. For anything else, book a repair online with the model number and the symptom.

Two Amana Range Recalls, Checked by Model and Serial

Neither record covers a current Amana range. Both name older gas ranges, and both hazards sit in the oven’s broil or self-clean modes. CPSC lists a free remedy for these units, though neither record says whether it is still offered. We check the plate against both before working on an older Amana gas range.

How broil and self-clean work on today’s models is covered on our Amana oven page.

  • CPSC 01-236, September 2001

    Amana Big Oven 30-inch self-cleaning gas ranges, sold May 2000 through July 2001. ACF3315A (T, K): serials 0005 to 0103. ACF3335A (W, C, B, S): 0005 to 0107. ACF3375A (W, C, B, S): 0006 to 0107, in each case the first four of the ten serial digits.

  • 01-236 hazard and remedy

Broil and self-clean could produce high carbon monoxide and overheat the storage drawer. CPSC says to stop using both modes, and lists an in-home inspection and free repair.

  • CPSC 99-164, August 1999

AGDS901E and AGDS901WW down-draft slide-in gas ranges, sold October 1995 to July 1999. The self-clean lock could release early. CPSC says not to use self-clean, and lists a free lock replacement.

  • Where the tag sits

On the 01-236 ranges, inside the storage drawer on the left or right side. On the AGDS901 ranges, on the left side below the oven, behind the utility drawer.

Amana’s One-Year Range Warranty and Who Does the Work

One year of parts and labor, as in-home repair, is what Amana’s warranty texts give its current ranges. The 2023 texts count that year from delivery. Older texts count from purchase. No range warranty text we read covers any part longer.

Inside that year, the free route is Amana’s warranty service, through the contact printed on your Amana warranty. We are not that service. A first-year fault goes there first. After the year, the repair is yours to buy and ours to do.

Amana’s 2023 text says that using an outside servicer or third-party parts will not void the warranty, while damage they cause is excluded. Older texts, the AGR6303MM’s among them, lack that sentence. Read the text that came with yours.

Two exclusions matter on a range. Amana’s newer texts do not cover conversion between natural gas and propane. Under every warranty text we read, a range whose model or serial numbers are removed, altered or hard to read loses its coverage.

Amana Stove Repair FAQ

  • How do I fix Amana stove error code F1 E0?

The Amana range manuals we read print no meaning for F1 E0, so there is no owner fix beyond one step. On the AGR6303MM and AGR5330BA, and the older AES6603SF and ACS4303MF slide-ins, press OFF/CANCEL. If the code returns, call for service.

The other Amana range manuals we read print no step. Note the code and the model number, then book the visit.

  • How do I reset an Amana stove after a power cut?

Press OFF/CANCEL to clear a flashing display. On the AGR6303MM and AGR5330BA a flashing time means a power failure, so change the time on the clock once it clears. To light a gas burner while the power is out, hold a lit match near it and turn its knob to LITE.

Amana’s article says to reset power to the range for a dead electric cooktop or a Control Lock that will not release.

  • Does Amana have a lifetime warranty on its stoves?

No. Amana’s warranty texts for its current ranges give one year of parts and labor. No range warranty text we read covers any part longer.

Inside that year, book through the contact printed on your Amana warranty. After that year, the repair is ours.

  • Can an Amana gas stove be converted to propane?

Amana gas ranges ship set for natural gas. The plate lists the gases each one can use. Amana says a conversion must be done by a qualified service technician, after consulting the gas supplier.

Amana’s newer warranty texts exclude the conversion. When propane flames burn yellow or noisy, Amana says the range may have been converted improperly. Diagnosing that is ours.

  • Why do pans rock or food bake unevenly on my Amana range?

Start with level. In the AGR4203MN manual, Amana range troubleshooting puts level first for cookware that rocks and for baking that is off. For rocking pans it also calls for flat-bottomed cookware. Check it with a level on a flat oven rack.

  • How do I check the anti-tip bracket on an Amana range?

Amana’s manuals print an anti-tip check. Slide the range forward and look for the bracket fixed to the floor or wall. Slide it back so the rear foot sits under the bracket. Re-engage it every time the range is moved, and never run the range without it.

Amana warns that a child or adult can tip the range and be killed.

  • Do you repair older Amana ranges, such as the slide-ins?

Yes. We do Amana range repair on the older slide-ins, the AES6603SF and ACS4303MF, as well as on current models. On those slide-ins, the plate sits at the upper right corner of the front frame. Our Amana page covers your other Amana machines.
