Amana Dishwashers We Repair Across Denver Metro

Amana sells one dishwasher family today, the ADFS2524R, while older ADB models are still in use. Amana calls water left in the filter area normal. Wilson & Myers handles Amana dishwasher repair across Denver Metro, and every diagnosis starts from the model number.

Which Amana Dishwasher Is in Your Kitchen

Amana prints controls, lights and filters per generation, so the model number tells you which rules apply. In Amana’s product data, the ADFS2524R is the Amana dishwasher with Midnight Interior.

The ADB1400AM, a run-out model, shares the ADFS2524R’s cycle guide and 2023 warranty text. Amana’s refrigerators, freezers and ice maker kits have their own pages, gathered on our Amana kitchen page. Among dishwashers, the generations differ like this.

  • ADFS2524R, current: a filter cup and plate you rinse every 1 to 3 months, and a steady Clean light when the cycle ends.
  • ADB1700AD, 2014 to 2015 guides: triple filtration you clean, and a Sani Rinse option.
  • ADB1000AW, ADB1400AW, ADB1600AW and ADB1900AW, 2009 to 2010 models: the ADB1000AW has a filter screen to wipe out. The other three guides print no filter step.
  • ADB2200AW and ADB1200AW: older models with longer terms in their 2009 warranty, covered below.

Where the Model and Serial Label Sits

Open the door and look first at the top left corner of the tub, just in front of the door seal. Another Amana guide names the upper left corner of the frame or the underside of the control panel. Older ADB guides say near the door, on either side of the interior. Read every letter, including the suffix.

Everything else hangs on that label. The recall check below reads the serial, and Amana’s warranties ask for the model and serial. The Amana warranty texts we read withhold coverage from a unit whose serial is removed, altered or unreadable. Each Amana appliance has its own label spot, listed on our main Amana page.

Flashing Lights Mean Different Things by Model

The Amana dishwasher documents we read print no fault-code table and no service mode. They print lights, and the lights change by generation. For that reason, Amana dishwasher troubleshooting starts with the model number.

Amana’s help site lists flashing-light codes without naming the models that use them, so we check the pattern against your model’s own documents.

Indicator lights on the ADFS2524R and ADB1400AM (lights, not fault codes)

Lock light flashes three timesA button was pressed while Control Lock is onHold 4 Hour Delay for 3 seconds
  • Same light, two meanings

A flashing Clean light means call for service on four older ADB models, but check the float, water and suds on the ADB1700AD.

  • Current models

The ADFS2524R and ADB1400AM documents we read give a flashing Clean light no meaning, so it is a service call.

Older ADB guides: the same Clean light, read by model (lights, not fault codes)

Standing Water and a Dishwasher That Will Not Drain

A little water around the filter after a cycle is not a fault. Amana calls water in that area “perfectly normal”: it keeps the seals from drying out and drains when the next cycle starts. More water means an Amana dishwasher not draining. When an Amana dishwasher won’t drain, Amana’s own checks come first, in the order listed below.

To drain an Amana dishwasher on the ADFS2524R or ADB1400AM, hold Cancel/Drain for 3 seconds with the door closed.

None of the checks below names the drain pump. If they all pass and water still stands, we test the Amana dishwasher drain pump. A hose never looped 20 inches up is an installation fault our dishwasher installation service can correct.

  1. Is the cycle complete? The Clean light glows when it is. If not, close the door and press Start/Resume.
  2. New disposer? Check that its knockout plug was removed before the drain hose went on.
  3. Drain hose: look for kinks in the Amana dishwasher drain hose. Its loop must sit at least 20 inches above the floor, or run to an air gap.
  4. Disposer or drain: run the disposer to clear food from the drain. A disposer that will not run is a garbage disposal repair, not a dishwasher fault.
  5. Air gap: if one is fitted, check it and clean it out.
  6. Power: check the house fuse or breaker.

Lights On, but It Will Not Start

The door comes first in Amana’s guides for an Amana dishwasher not starting. It has to be closed tightly and latched. Then check the cycle, the water shutoff valve and the house fuse or breaker.

Repeated breaker trips need an electrician, Amana says. Amana’s dimension guide for the ADFS2524R recommends a separate circuit; its owner’s manual allows sharing with a disposer within the circuit’s rating.

A flashing Start/Resume light means the door opened mid-cycle or the power dropped. Until you close the door and press Start/Resume, an Amana dishwasher won’t start again. Amana’s cycle guide shows how to start an Amana dishwasher on top-control models. Press Start/Resume, then shut the door within seconds.

Control Lock can explain an Amana dishwasher start button not working. On the ADFS2524R, ADB1400AM and ADB1400AW, it is a 3-second hold on 4 Hour Delay, and the same hold unlocks it. On the ADB1700AD, hold Sani Rinse instead. A lock that will not release may be Sleep Mode; Amana says press Start/Resume or Cancel, or open and close the door.

With power at the breaker, an Amana dishwasher not turning on is ours. We test the Amana dishwasher door latch first, then the controls behind it.

It Starts but Will Not Fill or Wash

Amana’s no-fill checks start with timing. The door must close within seconds of pressing Start/Resume, and Start/Resume needs pressing again after a power outage. A closed supply valve also leaves an Amana dishwasher not filling with water.

Next, free the overfill float, which Amana’s help article puts in the front right corner of the tub. The ADB1400AW and ADB1700AD guides say it must move up and down; press it down to release it. On the ADFS2524R, Amana calls it Overfill Detect.

A low drain loop is on Amana’s no-fill list. Below 20 inches, the dishwasher can siphon. Suds can stop the fill too; the ADB1700AD guide blames the wrong detergent, too much of it, or a rinse aid cap left off. Amana’s list never names the valve, so we test the Amana dishwasher water inlet valve only after these checks.

Some pauses are normal, Amana says. Its help article counts two or three pauses while the water heats. The ADB1400AW and ADB1700AD guides add that a motor stopped on overload resets itself within a few minutes. Past those pauses, an Amana dishwasher filling but not washing is ours to diagnose.

For an Amana dishwasher not cleaning, the ADB1400AW and ADB1700AD guides check loading, 120°F water, the detergent amount and suds slowing the wash arm. The ADFS2524R quick start warns never to run it with loose or missing filters. Then an Amana dishwasher not spraying water is ours. We test the Amana dishwasher circulation pump and its motor.

Wet Dishes, Spots and Film at the End

Amana treats drying as a rinse aid question. The fix for an Amana dishwasher not drying starts there: fill the dispenser, turn its setting higher, then switch Heated Dry on. Plastics often still need a towel, and Amana says to unload the bottom rack first.

Heated Dry uses a heating element to speed drying, and adds about 49 minutes on the ADFS2524R and ADB1400AM. Switched off, the dishes air dry. With rinse aid in and Heated Dry on, an Amana dishwasher not drying dishes is ours to test.

Amana rates the ADFS2524R’s bulk rinse aid dispenser at an average of 115 cycles on setting 1. A level that never drops points to Amana dishwasher rinse aid not dispensing. That is ours to test.

Film is a different question. Amana’s test is a 5-minute soak in white vinegar: if the item clears, it is hard-water film; if not, it is permanent etching.

Hardness has two Amana lines. The guides for the 2009 to 2010 ADB models recommend a softener at 13 grains or above. Above 15 grains, the ADB1700AD guide and Amana’s manual for the ADFS2524R say clean the filter at least monthly.

Denver Water’s 2026 report puts 2025 total hardness at about 105 mg/L, roughly 6 grains per gallon, below both lines. Thornton’s 2026 report puts its 2025 average at about 230 mg/L, or 13.5 grains, above the softener line. Its 152 to 356 mg/L range crosses the filter line too.

When to Call Wilson & Myers

Before you book, run Amana’s checks above and read your tub tag against the recall table below. After that, an Amana dishwasher not working is ours to diagnose.

Water standing above the filter area after the drain checks is ours. So is no fill with the valve open and the float free. So is an Amana dishwasher not washing after the cleaning checks. Leaks past Amana’s hookup checks are ours too.

I usually ask for the full model number first. A flashing Clean light means call for service on an ADB1400AW, but check the float, water and suds on an ADB1700AD. On the call-for-service models, we test the sensors, the wiring and the Amana dishwasher control board before naming a part.

Our technicians are insured on every job. Every paid repair carries our 100-day labor warranty on the work on your invoice. We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. We fit OEM parts when the supplier has the right one, and timing depends on the supplier.

The 2010 Recall on Plastic-Tub Dishwashers

CPSC recall 10-255, announced June 3, 2010, covers plastic-tub dishwashers with certain serial numbers, sold from February 2006 through April 2010. Amana-brand units were included in it. The hazard CPSC prints is an electrical failure in the heating element, a serious fire hazard. CPSC lists no other Amana dishwasher recall.

The record prints no model numbers; the serial on the tub tag decides it. The warranty texts for the ADB1000AW, ADB1400AW, ADB1600AW and ADB1900AW date from 2009 and 2010, inside the sale window. So check the tag, whatever the model.

The printed remedy: stop using it, switch off its fuse or breaker, tell everyone in the home, and contact the company the notice names. CPSC lists a free in-home repair or a rebate toward certain new dishwashers, without saying whether either is still offered. We read the tub tag against the table below before any repair, an Amana dishwasher heating element replacement included. A match goes to the recall remedy first.

What Amana’s Warranty Covers, and Who Does the Work

On the ADFS2524R and ADB1400AM, Amana’s 2023 warranty runs one year from the date of delivery, parts and labor. It prints no second-year term for any part. Inside that year, book Amana’s warranty service through the contact printed on your Amana warranty. The covered repair is free, and we are not that service.

Amana’s 2023 text also says that using a non-Amana servicer or third-party parts “will not void” the warranty. Damage that work causes is excluded. After the first year, the repair is yours to buy and ours to do.

The 2023 text excludes repairs to household plumbing, trim or cabinetry that blocks access, and faults from installation that skipped the instructions or codes. Amana’s manuals add that freezing damage is not covered.

The ADB2200AW and ADB1200AW carried longer terms in their 2009 warranty; if you own one, read your own paperwork before you book. Other older ADB texts give one year from purchase.

Amana Dishwasher Repair FAQ

  • Are there Amana dishwasher error codes?

Not in the Amana documents we read. They print lights, and the light tables above show what each pattern means by model. Book with the model number and the light pattern, and we check it against that model’s own documents.

  • Is there an Amana dishwasher reset button?

No, there is no button to press. Amana’s help article explains how to reset an Amana dishwasher: disconnect power at the plug or breaker for one minute. Amana’s help site says 30 seconds, so a full minute covers both.

  • Where is the filter on an Amana dishwasher?

The ADFS2524R and ADB1400AM are each listed as an Amana dishwasher with Triple Filter Wash System. To remove the Amana dishwasher filter on an ADFS2524R, pull out the lower rack, turn the cup a quarter turn counterclockwise and lift it. Then lift out the plate. Rinse both under cold water with a soft brush.

The ADFS2524R quick start says to do it every 1 to 3 months. Older models differ, as the generation list above shows.

  • How long does an Amana dishwasher run?

Long runs are normal: a typical Amana dishwasher cycle takes about 2 1/2 hours on the ADFS2524R and ADB1400AM, Amana’s quick start says. The first cycle after installation runs longer still. That is the optical water sensor calibrating.

  • Does standing water mean the Amana dishwasher pump has failed?

Not on its own, by Amana’s account. Amana calls some water in the filter area normal, and its not-draining checks never name a pump. We test it only after the cycle, hose, plug and air gap check out.

  • Why is my Amana dishwasher leaking from the bottom of the door?

Amana’s help article names two causes at the door: a dishwasher that is not level, and too much or the wrong detergent. Use automatic dishwasher detergent only. Underneath, Amana points to the water hookup behind the lower kick panel at the front left, and the drain hose connection and clamp.

  • Are the sounds my Amana dishwasher makes normal?

Amana’s ADB1700AD guide calls surging sounds while draining, a hissing water valve and a snap as the detergent dispenser opens normal. On ADB1400AW models with a wash module, a grinding sound is a hard object being ground up. It should stop on its own. If it lasts past a complete cycle, Amana says call for service.
