A GE wall oven is a built-in unit, hard-wired into its cabinet. GE lists its control board, relay board, cooling fans and door hinges as separate parts, so one failure need not mean a new oven. This page covers GE wall oven repair on that unit. Faults inside the oven cavity have their own page.
GE’s wall oven manuals all say the cooling fan may keep running after the oven is off. It is cooling internal parts. On 27″ and 30″ models, combinations included, GE allows up to 1-1/2 hours. The 24″ JRP20, JRP28 and JRS06 manual allows up to 2 hours.
GE’s support articles add that it runs until the oven has cooled, even after a self-clean cycle ends. That fan is doing its job.
Two signs change that. One is a fan still running well past GE’s window. The other is F350 on the display. GE’s code chart for ranges and wall ovens says F350 usually means trouble in the upper cooling fan circuit, or a blocked fan.
GE’s installation checklist also wants the duct opening at the bottom of the unit kept clear.
GE’s 27″ and 30″ manuals say these ovens click on and off more often than older ones, and that it is normal.
GE says the inner glass carries a heat barrier coating, and that the look is normal.
GE says it fades in time, and a self-clean of at least 3 hours speeds that up.
GE says the oven vent sits near the control panel on many wall ovens, so vapor shows up there.
Every current GE-badge wall oven is electric. Singles and doubles come in 24″, 27″ and 30″ widths, and the combination in 27″ and 30″. GE’s older gas wall ovens were 24″ built-in models, now discontinued. A General Electric wall oven burner on one of those is oven cavity work.
GE’s 2024 nomenclature guide decodes the letters on 27″ and 30″ models. J is GE and P is GE Profile. K is 27″ and T is 30″, while S is single and D is double. It skips the combination and 24″ numbers.
Profile models have their own page. If your oven and cooktop share one body, that is a range, covered on our GE range page. A cooktop above a GE single wall oven is on our GE cooktop page, grouped with ranges and hoods under GE cooking appliances.
The model and serial label sits on the side trim or behind the door, on the lower oven of a double. Copy it exactly, extra characters and all. GE uses those for parts, which is why its parts catalog lists a JTD5000SVSS as JTD5000SV1SS.
GE’s parts list for the JTD5000 double shows one control board and one relay board for both ovens. Each cavity has its own sensor, latch, elements and door gasket. The fans are split too, with one in the control panel and one GE lists as the lower cooling fan.
We start GE double oven repair from that layout. One dead oven under a working display points at that oven’s own parts. Both ovens failing together points at what they share: the control, the relay board or the power supply.
The controls follow the same split. On a GE 27″ built-in double wall oven JKD3000, an Upper and a Lower pad choose which cavity the controls run. On the GE 24″ Double Wall Oven JRP28SKSS or JRP28BJBB, the lower oven has its own temperature knob.
| What you notice | GE models | What the manual says |
|---|---|---|
| Proof will not start | JKD3000, JTD3000 | Proof cannot run while the other oven self-cleans. |
| Only one light comes on | JKD3000, JTD3000 | Opening a door lights only that oven. |
| One oven stays on in Sabbath Mode | JKD3000, JTD3000 | Each oven has to be turned off separately. |
| No convection, probe or air fry in the lower oven | JKD5000, JTD5000 | Those modes work in the upper oven only. |
| The lower oven will not self-clean | JRP28 | The lower oven is standard clean. |
The GE 30″ Combination Double Wall Oven (JT3800SHSS) and the 27″ JK3800SHSS share one layout. On top sits a 1.7 cu ft, 1,000 watt built-in microwave with a 16″ turntable. Below is a self-cleaning thermal oven. It holds 5.0 cu ft on the JT3800SHSS and 4.3 on the JK3800SHSS.
An older GE 30″ electric combination wall oven, JT3800DHBB, is discontinued but lists the same 1.7 and 5.0 cu ft cavities.
One selector dial and one display run both cavities, with a Clear/Off pad for each side. If the pads on one side stop responding, GE’s fix is to hold Clear/Off on the other side for 30 seconds. Failing that, GE says to cycle the breaker.
The fan starts on its own whenever the built-in microwave runs, and GE calls that normal. In Sabbath Mode the upper cavity is unavailable.
GE’s manual says only qualified service personnel should adjust or repair the built-in microwave. We service that built-in microwave. GE’s Advantium and convection built-in microwave combinations are GE Profile models. Over-the-range and countertop microwaves sit outside what we service, on any brand.
GE’s wall oven manuals do not print what each F code means. All of them give the same owner routine instead.
Press Cancel/Off, or Clear/Off on a 24″ or combination model, and let the oven cool for an hour. If the code returns, cut all power to the oven for at least 30 seconds, then restore it. A code that survives that needs service, per GE.
What each F code means, from the temperature sensor to the door lock circuit, is covered on our GE oven cavity page. The table lists the unit messages. Find yours in the first column, and the last column says whether it needs a technician, an electrician or a settings check.
| Message | Where GE prints it | What GE says | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| F350 | GE’s code chart for ranges and wall ovens | Usually the upper cooling fan circuit, or an obstruction in the fan | A technician |
| Bad Line | GE’s code chart for ranges and wall ovens | Power reaches the oven, but it was wired incorrectly | An installer or electrician |
| Blank display | 27″ and 30″ manuals | A tripped breaker or blown fuse, the clock switched off, or Sabbath Mode | Check the breaker and settings |
Doors come off without pulling the oven. GE’s manuals give owners the steps. If a refitted door will not open fully, GE says the hinge arm is not seated in the bottom of its slot. On a combination, GE says only a technician should remove the built-in microwave door.
If a GE wall oven made from October 2002 through 2003 will not open flat, check the recall below.
A General Electric wall oven latch that stays locked once the oven has cooled is not a hinge problem. If self-clean malfunctions, GE says to turn the oven off and disconnect the power. That latch is cavity work, on our GE oven cavity page.
Several GE wall oven complaints clear up without a technician, and GE’s manuals say so. Work through the first list below before you book.
What is left after those checks is ours. On a double with one dead oven, I usually ask whether the display still lights before anything comes apart. That answer separates the cavity’s own parts from the shared control.
Our technicians are insured, and we source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. In the first year, book GE’s warranty service instead. The JKS5000, JTS5000, JKD5000 and JTD5000 manual says GE will not cover service it did not arrange. After that, book a GE wall oven repair with the model number from the label.
Each GE wall oven is hard-wired into a junction box. The breaker is its off switch.
Breaker size follows the build. A GE 30″ built-in single electric wall oven JTS3000 is rated 4.2 kW at 240 volts. Its convection sibling, the GE 30″ built-in single electric convection wall oven JTS5000, carries the same rating, and 3.2 kW at 208 volts.
That drop shows up as time. GE says a 208 volt installation adds 25% to preheat. For a far longer preheat, GE’s first step is 30 seconds with the breaker off, then an installer or electrician to check the supply.
If an old double is coming out for good rather than being repaired, our double oven installation service handles the swap.
GE covers the entire appliance for one year from purchase, parts and labor, through GE’s warranty service. Improper installation damage is excluded. So are trips to reset a breaker.
The combinations carry one conflict. GE’s general cooking warranty sheet adds four years on the magnetron part alone, while the combination’s own manual prints one year only. Confirm with GE before paying for a magnetron.
Two older recalls remain on GE’s recall list. The two letters that begin the serial number give the month and year a unit was made.
One covers GE, GE Profile, Monogram and Kenmore wall ovens made from October 2002 through 2003. A door re-attached wrongly on those units can leak self-clean heat, and it will not open flat. GE’s advice is no self-clean until it is repaired.
The other covers GE and GE Profile built-in microwave combination ovens made 2000 through 2003, including JKP85, JKP86, JTP85 and JTP95. The built-in microwave’s door switch can overheat. The notice says to stop using the built-in microwave, while the lower oven stays safe to use.
No. GE does not approve its electric wall ovens for a plug and receptacle, and each one must be hard-wired into an approved junction box.
On the 24″ models, GE also notes that a GFI breaker trips unless the ground wire is installed correctly.
Check for a locked control first. Hold the pad for three seconds: Lock Controls on a 3000 series, 0 on a 5000 series, Settings on a combination. On a 5000 series, Cancel/Off works even while the control is locked.
If that changes nothing, GE’s 3000 and 5000 series manuals point to a tripped breaker or blown fuse, controls set wrong, or Sabbath Mode. A pad that still does nothing after those checks is ours to diagnose.
Not on this page, which is for the GE badge. The Advantium, Twin Flex and In-Oven Camera wall ovens are GE Profile models, whose numbers start with P.
Café and Monogram built-ins share some of GE’s installation documents, but each has its own brand page. For built-in ovens from other brands, see our wall oven repair page.
Tell us the model number from the label on the side trim or behind the door, and whether the display still lights.
