Kenmore Range Ovens in Denver Kitchens

Kenmore sells no wall oven today, so a current Kenmore oven is the oven inside a range. Its plate number decides which checks, cleaning rules and code table, if any, apply. On the 4.8 cu ft electric range, a door left open stops the element after one minute. Kenmore says that is not a product failure.

We handle Kenmore oven repair across the Denver Metro Area, gas and electric. The induction ranges 22-96853 and 22-96873 sit outside what we service. Kenmore microwaves, over-the-range or countertop, are not work we take.

How Your Oven Bakes, Broils and Cleans, by Plate Family

The plate decides more than the badge does. Even one prefix can hide two ovens: the 405 gas and electric ranges use different oven code systems. On the 5.6 cu ft and 24-inch ranges, open the oven door to read the plate on the right side of the frame. The 5.2 cu ft electric has it on the left front frame.

On every current electric range we service, the lower Kenmore oven heating element for baking sits hidden under the floor. You cannot see whether it glows. So a cold oven alone does not mean a Kenmore oven heating element replacement; Kenmore’s checks come first.

The rear-control KKFTR4.8REARAFC-SS has no row here; we diagnose its oven from the plate at the visit. Older Kenmore wall ovens, cooktops and range hoods have their own pages under our Kenmore cooking appliances.

Oven Behavior That Looks Like a Fault

Kenmore’s own tables explain several oven behaviors that look like faults. Each line names the family it was printed for.

  • Door open, no heat: on the 5.6 cu ft electric ranges and the 982.7685# gas range, elements stop while the door is open. Heat resumes once it closes.
  • Fan still running: a Kenmore oven won’t turn off its cooling fan at once. On the 5.6 cu ft ranges it cools the electronics, then stops by itself. The 4.8 cu ft guides call its noise normal.
  • Shut itself off: that can be by design. The 5.2 cu ft gas range ends bake modes after 12 hours and broil after 2. The 24-inch electric range switches off after a timed cook and flashes A until you hold MODE two seconds.
  • PUSH and On flashing: on the 5.2 cu ft ranges, Start was not pressed within 30 seconds, so the setting will cancel. Press Start.
  • Door locked after self-clean: on the 4.8 cu ft ranges, the door stays locked until the oven drops below 400 °F. Kenmore lists that as normal.
  • No self-clean: the oven may be too hot. The self-cleaning 5.6 cu ft ranges refuse above 170 °F. On the 4.8 cu ft ranges, a control lock or a lit surface burner also stops it.
  • Steam or smell: both can be normal. Steam at the oven vent is normal on the 5.2 cu ft gas and 4.8 cu ft ranges. A strong smell in the first uses of a 4.8 cu ft range is the insulation. Run Bake at 400 °F for an hour.

Checks Kenmore Prints Before You Book

A Kenmore oven not heating gets these checks before any part, in Kenmore’s own tables. That is where Kenmore oven trouble-shooting starts. The same goes for a Kenmore oven not heating but broiler works: after these checks, its bake heat source is ours to test.

  1. Power: check the breaker or fuse. A Kenmore oven not working at all starts there. On the 5.6 cu ft ranges, a Kenmore oven display not working after an outage needs the breaker switched off and on.
  2. Door: close it all the way. If the Kenmore oven won’t heat up, the 5.6 cu ft electric guides name a door not closed as one cause. On the 4.8 cu ft ranges, an unlevel range can keep the door from sealing.
  3. Delay start (4.8 cu ft): a delayed start time keeps the oven cold. Press Off/Clear to cancel it, then set the mode again.
  4. Demo mode (4.8 cu ft): if the panel works but neither the cooktop nor the oven heats, the range may be in demo mode. The exit steps are on our Kenmore range page.
  5. Panel lock (5.2 cu ft): LOC on the display means the panel is locked. Hold + and – together for three seconds.
  6. Temperature: adjust before you replace anything. Before any Kenmore oven thermostat replacement, the 4.8 cu ft ranges let you shift the thermostat by up to 35 °F. Hold °F/°C three seconds in standby, key the offset, press Start; on the 5.6 cu ft ranges, use t_AJ in Settings.

Kenmore Oven Codes by Plate Family

Kenmore oven error codes belong to the plate family that prints them. The 405 gas and electric ranges use different systems. The 5.6 cu ft and 24-inch guides print no codes at all.

E3 on a 4.8 cu ft display is the code for a Kenmore range oven not heating at all. The 4.8 cu ft table prints one solution, beside its first two rows, E0 and E1. Press Off/Clear and restart; if the problem persists, cut all power for at least 30 seconds. If that fails, call for service.

Its control and power codes, E8, E9, E11 to E15, E17 and E18, sit on our Kenmore range page with the cooktop faults. A Kenmore oven control board fault shows up there.

E02 on the 405.9222# electric range names the temperature sensor, with no reset offered. A Kenmore oven temperature sensor replacement there starts with our test.

For an F10 error code, Kenmore oven guides for the current ranges have no entry: they print no F codes. The older Kenmore oven model 790 guides we read give one routine for any F code; the 721 double-oven gas guide gives another. Both are in the FAQ below, and they cover a Kenmore oven F1 error too.

Gas Oven Burner Will Not Light: Kenmore’s Checks by Model

The causes differ by family. When a Kenmore oven won’t light on the 5.2 cu ft gas range, Kenmore’s first check is the gas shutoff valves. If they are open, a qualified installer or service provider should confirm the gas connections.

On the 22-75293, if the surface burners light but the oven burner does not, Kenmore points to the regulator’s shut-off switch being off. Kenmore sends that to a qualified service technician. On that range, a Kenmore stove oven not working while the cooktop lights is therefore ours.

The same guide says the range is designed to use below 2,000 ft. Kenmore adds that its oven burner may also fail to ignite at high altitudes, due to lower oxygen levels. Tell us if lighting is erratic.

The 24-inch gas oven burner has a gas safety device. Keep the knob held 10 to 15 seconds after lighting. Not lit after 30 seconds? Open the door and wait at least 90 seconds.

When these checks pass, Kenmore oven igniter replacement and burner work are ours.

Oven Parts, Matched to the Plate

We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. We fit OEM parts when the supplier has the right one.

Every order starts from the full plate number. We test a hidden bake element before ordering the heating element for Kenmore oven models built that way. The control board for Kenmore oven models comes last, once Kenmore’s printed checks have failed.

Older ovens follow the same rule. Kenmore’s site still holds guides for well over a dozen 790 range families. So a Kenmore oven heating element, model 790, is matched to the whole plate number, never the prefix alone. With an F code, a Kenmore oven control board model 790 replacement comes only after the FAQ routine below fails.

Oven Warranty: What Kenmore’s Two Texts Cover

Kenmore’s warranty page gives ranges, oven included, one year on the appliance from the original sale. Non-household use cuts that to 90 days.

The 4.8 cu ft guides add lifetime coverage on oven door glass for purchases dated on or after February 4, 2018. Kenmore installs it free only in year one; after that it supplies the glass and you pay the labor. Kenmore has to confirm the defect first.

Two exclusions bite on oven calls. Screw-in bulbs count as expendables, so they are not covered. Damage from cleaners the guide does not recommend is excluded too. The 5.2 cu ft gas guide rules out commercial oven cleaners and oven-liner coatings.

Neither text says which governs a given purchase, so keep the receipt. A covered defect goes to Kenmore’s warranty service, through the store that sold it. Outside those terms, the oven repair is ours.

When to Call Wilson & Myers

Run the checks above first, and compare your plate with the recalls below. Kenmore then sends these code cases to service: E02, or an E03 that keeps returning, on the 405.9222#.

On the 405.7608#, Kenmore sends an Er- or ErrF that repeats after the cool-down and power cut. On the 4.8 cu ft ranges, it sends an E0 or E1 that survives the printed reset.

The repairs past that point are ours. That covers a Kenmore oven element replacement on a hidden-bake oven, sensor and door-lock faults, and gas oven burner work. A Kenmore oven control board replacement comes only after Kenmore’s printed checks fail.

The 22-95163 guide says not to remove the oven door unless Kenmore Customer Service directs it. On the 5.6 cu ft ranges, a light that stays on can mean a bent hinge or a broken door switch. Kenmore oven door hinge replacement belongs with a technician.

On the 5.2 cu ft ranges, the guides point to an oven temperature section they do not contain. So calibration there is ours to do.

I usually start with the display: a code, a word like PrE or Hot, or nothing at all, and each leads somewhere different. Our insured technicians cover gas and electric alike. Every paid repair carries our 100-day labor warranty on the work on your invoice. Book a repair online with the full plate number and what the display shows.

The Recall That Concerns a Kenmore Oven

We found no CPSC recall that concerns the oven of a current Kenmore range. One older range recall does, and we do not repair a recalled unit: the recall remedy comes first. Check the full model number at cpsc.gov.

Recalls on older Kenmore ranges, Elite and standard, are on our Kenmore range page. Older Kenmore wall ovens have recalls of their own, on our Kenmore wall oven page.

  • CPSC 10048

Kenmore PRO 30-inch gas ranges 790.79613800 and 790.79613801, plate near the base below the oven door and on the back. Not every serial is included, and the line is no longer sold. A wrong part over-fuels the oven, so carbon monoxide is the hazard. Stop using the oven and contact Kenmore’s recall line for the free repair; the burners, broiler, clock and timer may still be used.

Kenmore Oven Repair FAQ

  • What does a Kenmore oven F10 error mean?

If you see an F10 error, Kenmore oven guides we read for older 790 and 721 ranges give it no meaning of its own. The 790 guides use one routine for any F code: clear it with STOP or CLEAR, then try Bake or Broil again. If it repeats, cut the power; if it still returns, call for service.

The 721 double-oven gas guide differs: wait an hour and check the gas shut-off valve, then cut the power. If the code still repeats, call for service. Current Kenmore ovens show E codes, Er- or ErrF, or no codes at all.

  • Is there a Kenmore oven reset button?

Kenmore’s reset uses the panel and the power. On the 4.8 cu ft ranges, press Off/Clear and restart; if the problem persists, cut all power for at least 30 seconds.

On the 5.2 cu ft gas range, press Cancel/Off and let the oven cool an hour before trying again. On the 405.9222#, E03 needs a 30-minute cool-down instead.

  • Can I find the Kenmore oven temperature sensor location and test it myself?

The Kenmore guides we read print no sensor test. On the 405.9222#, E02 means a sensor error and the guide says to call customer service. On the 4.8 cu ft ranges, E0 points to the temperature detection circuit, which is ours to test.

  • How long should a Kenmore self-clean cycle run?

It depends, and Kenmore’s sources disagree. The 4.8 cu ft guides offer 2, 3 or 5 hours. The 5.6 cu ft guides offer 2, 3 or 3.5 hours, while Kenmore.com’s pages for those models say 2, 3 or 4.

Follow the guide for your plate. With E10 or E16 on a 4.8 cu ft display, Kenmore’s table points to the door lock itself.

  • Why won't my Kenmore gas oven work during a power outage?

Kenmore’s 5.2 cu ft gas guide says the oven is inoperable in a power failure and should not be used. The 24-inch gas oven is different. Its burner can be lit by hand at the ignition hole, at the front left corner of the burner.

Cooktop burners follow their own outage steps on our Kenmore range page.

  • Where can I get Kenmore oven repair near me in the Denver Metro Area?
