Current Kenmore Ranges in Denver Homes: Gas, Radiant Electric and 24-Inch

Kenmore stove repair starts with the plate number. Each current range family has its own guide and first checks, and its own codes where it prints any. One check can save you a visit. On the 4.8 cu ft ranges, a Kenmore stove not heating while its panel lights up can be in demo mode.

We repair every current Kenmore gas, radiant electric and 24-inch range across the Denver Metro Area. The two induction models, 22-96853 and 22-96873, sit outside what we service. We do not take the over-the-range microwave above your range.

Read the Plate: It Names Your Kenmore Guide

Two different numbers get called the model. Kenmore’s website lists an item number such as 22-76083; the plate carries the plate model, such as 405.7608#. Kenmore’s manual search asks for the plate number. Clean around it gently, since Kenmore warns that scrubbing can remove the numbers.

No Kenmore document we read names who built a current range. The plate names the guide instead. Older Kenmore ranges carry other prefixes, such as 790, 721 or 664. Built-in Kenmore cooktops, wall ovens and range hoods sit beside this page under our Kenmore cooking appliances.

The rear-control KKFTR4.8REARAFC-SS is not in the table below. We diagnose it from its plate at the visit.

What Each Symptom Means, Family by Family

Kenmore’s own troubleshooting tables explain several Kenmore stove problems, some normal and some for a technician. Each line names the family it comes from.

  • All burners click: on the 5.2 cu ft gas range, one knob turned to light sparks every Kenmore stove gas igniter. That is how it lights.
  • Endless clicking: when a Kenmore stove igniter clicks constantly on the 4.8 cu ft gas range, Kenmore’s first cause is a knob left at LITE. If it still clicks at your setting, it needs a technician.
  • One burner dark: a Kenmore stove burner won’t light with its cap out of place, the 5.6 and 4.8 cu ft gas guides say. Clogged ports and a wet burner head stop it too.
  • Lights, then dies: hold the knob longer. A Kenmore stove surface burner with a flame failure device needs about 3 to 4 seconds on 5.6 cu ft gas models. The 24-inch gas range needs about 10 to 15.
  • Element cycling on HI: a Kenmore stove element that switches off and on, even on HI, is protecting the glass. Kenmore’s guides for every radiant family call it a normal operating condition.
  • Weak element: check the cookware first, as Kenmore’s 5.6 cu ft electric guide does. A Kenmore range burner not heating properly under the right pan needs service.
  • Yellow flames: on the 5.2 cu ft gas range, some yellow at first start-up is normal. Let it run 4 to 5 minutes. Flames still mostly yellow, uneven or noisy need a qualified service provider.
  • Cracked glass top: stop using it. The 5.2 cu ft, 4.8 cu ft and 24-inch electric guides send it to a technician.

Checks to Run Before You Book

With a Kenmore stove top not working at all, start at step one. Every step comes from Kenmore’s guides.

  1. Plate: note the full number. It sits on the right side of the oven frame, door open, on the 5.6 cu ft and 24-inch ranges. The 5.2 cu ft electric has it on the left front frame.
  2. Power: if the Kenmore stove won’t turn on at all, check the breaker or fuse. A Kenmore stove igniter not working on any burner points to power too.
  3. Dark display (gas): two causes, two families. The 4.8 cu ft gas guide blames a tripped GFCI outlet for a Kenmore range display not working. On the 5.2 cu ft gas range, hold Steam Clean three seconds to wake a sleeping display.
  4. Demo mode (4.8 cu ft): a Kenmore range not heating while its panel works can be in demo mode. Hold the 1 and 9 pads together for three seconds, then release. OFF SHOP shows and the range returns to normal. If ON SHOP shows instead, the range was not in demo mode: hold the same pads again.
  5. Panel lock: a Kenmore range not working from its keypad may be locked. LOC means locked on the 5.2 cu ft ranges: hold + and – three seconds. On the 5.6 cu ft, hold Start three seconds. On the 24-inch, hold MODE two seconds on the electric, + and – two seconds on the gas.
  6. Burner parts (gas): seat each cap on its pins. A Kenmore stove burner not working may just be wet, so let it dry. For clogged ports, Kenmore’s 5.6 cu ft guide uses a stiff nylon toothbrush or a straightened paper clip.
  7. Gas valve: check that it is open. A Kenmore range not lighting on any burner while it sparks may have its shutoff valve closed. On the 5.6 cu ft gas ranges, wait one minute after a failed try.

Kenmore Range Codes: The 4.8 cu ft Control Table

Kenmore stove error codes depend on the family. Only the 4.8 cu ft pair, 22-95163 electric and 22-75293 gas, prints control codes, in one shared table from E0 to E18. The 5.6 cu ft and 24-inch guides print no error codes; the 5.2 cu ft guides print oven codes only.

The Kenmore range error codes below are that table’s control, power and communication rows. Its oven rows are on our Kenmore oven page, with the 5.2 cu ft oven codes and the table’s one printed reset.

Kenmore prints that reset beside the table’s first two rows only, E0 and E1, which are oven codes. If it fails, Kenmore says to call for service. We replace a Kenmore range control board only after that reset fails.

Control and power codes in the Kenmore 4.8 cu ft range guides 95163# and 75293#
CodeKenmore's meaning
E8The display board and the main control board are not communicating
E9The main control board failed to detect the AC power frequency
E11Internal failure in the main control board’s CPU
E12Internal failure in the display board’s CPU
E13The air around the main control board is too hot while the oven is working
E14Fault in the main control board’s ambient temperature (NTC) circuit, in the 22-95163 guide’s wording
E15The software on the main control board and the display board does not match
E17Fault in the cooling fan motor’s speed detection circuit
E18The touch chip on the display board and the CPU are not communicating

Altitude, Propane and Hood Airflow in Kenmore’s Gas Guides

Two gas families carry Kenmore’s altitude text on burner output. The 22-75293 guide says the range is “designed to use below 2,000 ft,” with lower burner output and flame performance above it. The 5.6 cu ft gas guides rate burner input up to 2,000 ft. Above that, ratings drop 4% for each 1,000 ft above sea level.

None of the current guides documents an altitude kit. Every current Kenmore gas range ships set for natural gas, and Kenmore leaves propane conversion to a qualified technician or LP installer. That conversion is not work we take.

The 5.2 cu ft gas guide warns that ventilation blowing air down toward the range may cause ignition and combustion problems. Kenmore’s 4.8 and 5.6 cu ft gas guides say a GFCI outlet is not required and recommend against one. Mention a hood or a GFCI when you book.

Parts, Ordered by the Full Plate Number

We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. We fit OEM parts when the supplier has the right one, ordered by the full plate number.

One prefix can hide very different ranges. The 405 gas and electric ranges do not even share an oven code system. So a Kenmore stove igniter replacement starts from the whole number.

Older ranges work the same way. We match a Kenmore stove model 790 igniter to the full plate number, since the 790 alone covers many range families. On an older Kenmore stove, 790 control board orders start there too, so read every digit off the plate when you book.

Kenmore’s Range Warranty: Two Texts to Check

Kenmore’s warranty page gives ranges one year on the appliance from the original sale, with free repair or a replacement. Non-household use cuts it to 90 days. The 5.2 cu ft, 5.6 cu ft and 24-inch guides print no terms and point to that page.

The 4.8 cu ft guides print more. They give two years on a ceramic glass cooktop that fails from thermal shock, once Kenmore confirms the cause. They add lifetime coverage on cooktop gas burners, cooktop electric elements and oven door glass, for purchases dated on or after February 4, 2018. After year one, Kenmore supplies the part and the owner pays the labor.

Neither text says which one governs. Keep your receipt and check both. In year one, a Kenmore stove heating element replacement goes to Kenmore’s warranty service, through the store that sold it.

The 4.8 cu ft guides exclude glass cracks that thermal shock did not cause. Both texts exclude a range whose plate is missing or unreadable. We do no Kenmore warranty work. Outside those terms, a Kenmore range heating element replacement is ours.

When to Call Wilson & Myers

Run the checks above first. If your plate starts with 790, or your item number is 22-91112, 22-91114 or 22-62781, read the recall list below before you book. A Kenmore stove not working after that is ours to diagnose.

Kenmore’s 5.6 cu ft gas guide lists signs that may need service: yellow tipping, soot on pans, burners that fail to light or stay lit. It adds burners the oven door puts out, and valves hard to turn. Each of those is our work.

Some work is never the owner’s. On the 5.2 cu ft gas range, Kenmore forbids lifting the cooktop, because it can damage the gas tubing and cause a leak. That guide also sends a worn or damaged gasket to a qualified service provider, so Kenmore stove door gasket replacement is ours. So is a Kenmore stove control board replacement, once Kenmore’s own checks fail.

I usually ask for the plate number first. Two Kenmore ranges with one symptom can need different fixes. Our insured technicians handle Kenmore range igniter, valve, element and board work. When a repair moves the range, we re-engage the anti-tip bracket every Kenmore guide requires.

Our Kenmore range repair service covers every current family and older Kenmore and Kenmore Elite ranges, gas or electric, except induction. Every paid repair carries our 100-day labor warranty on the work on your invoice. Book a repair online with the plate number and any display code.

Kenmore Range Recalls, Matched to the Plate

We found no CPSC recall for a current Kenmore range. The six below cover older ranges. We do not repair a recalled range: the recall remedy comes first. Confirm yours at cpsc.gov with the full model number.

  • CPSC 24235, re-announcing 09333

Kenmore Elite smoothtops 790.990121*, 790.990131*, 790.990141* and 790.990191*, serials VF122xxxxx to VF334xxxxx, plate on the drawer frame. Elements can switch on by themselves, fail to switch off or run at the wrong heat, a fire and burn hazard. Until it is checked, keep nothing on the range when it is off. The 2009 record says to discard them; the 2024 record sends owners to Electrolux for a repair or a refund, by serial number.

  • CPSC 15143

Kenmore Elite dual-fuel slide-ins 790.42603xxx, serials AF42500601 to AF43000916, and 790.42613xxx, serials AF42500541 to AF43103647. A burner flame can go out while gas keeps flowing, a fire and burn hazard. Stop using the range and search your full model number at cpsc.gov for the remedy.

  • CPSC 15142

Kenmore Elite stainless slide-ins, each in a serial range the record lists: gas 790.32623xxx, 790.32633xxx, 790.32643xxx; electric 790.42553xxx, 790.42563xxx, 790.42623xxx; dual fuel 790.42603xxx, 790.42613xxx. The trim below the controls can have a sharp edge, a laceration hazard. Kenmore’s guides for the Elite slide-ins 22-42553 and 22-42563 carry the matching 790.4255 and 790.4256 numbers. Whether yours is included depends on the full plate number and serial; search it at cpsc.gov for the remedy.

  • CPSC 15084

Kenmore 24-inch electric smooth-tops 790.90152 (serials NF408 to NF424) and 790.90153 (NF408 to NF427), sold April to October 2014. An element may not adhere to the cooktop, a shock hazard. Stop using and unplug it; the free inspection and repair runs through Kenmore’s recall line.

  • CPSC 10048

Kenmore PRO 30-inch gas ranges 790.79613800 and 790.79613801, a line no longer sold; not every serial is included. A wrong part over-fuels the oven, a carbon monoxide hazard, so stop using the oven and contact Kenmore’s recall line for the free repair. The record says the burners, broiler, clock and timer may still be used.

  • CPSC 04576

Kenmore 30-inch electric coil ranges with rear controls, item numbers 22-91112/4 and 22-62781. Wiring can melt and short, a shock hazard. Stop using the range and contact GE. The record offers a free repair.

Kenmore Stove Repair FAQ

  • My Kenmore stove keeps clicking. What should I check?

Start with the family. On the 5.2 cu ft gas range, every igniter sparks while any knob is at the light position. On the 24-inch gas range, a switch under the knob sparks while you hold it in.

On the 4.8 cu ft gas range, Kenmore’s first cause is a knob left at LITE: turn it to your setting. If a Kenmore range igniter keeps clicking after that, the 4.8 cu ft guide sends it to a technician.

  • Where is the reset button on a Kenmore stove?

The reset Kenmore prints for the 4.8 cu ft ranges is a sequence of keys and a power cut. Its steps are on our Kenmore oven page, beside the oven codes it was printed for.

A Kenmore range not turning on after a power cut starts at the breaker. On the 22-95163, a flashing display only asks you to set the clock again.

  • What does a Kenmore stove F10 error mean?

No Kenmore range F10 error code appears in the current range guides, which print no F codes. A Kenmore stove F1 error is the same: only the older guides we read cover F codes. Their routines differ between the 790 and 721 guides and are set out on our Kenmore oven page.

One older 664 guide says F9 or F9 E0 can mean a miswired home outlet, which needs an electrician.

  • Is there Kenmore range repair near me for an older 790 range?

Yes, anywhere in the Denver Metro Area. A range under one of the recalls above goes to its remedy first. Kenmore keeps guides for over a dozen 790 range families, so a Kenmore stove 790 igniter is matched to the full plate number. Read us every digit when you book.

We order a Kenmore stove control board, model 790 or current, the same way.

  • Can I light a Kenmore gas burner during a power outage?

Yes, with a flame and some care. Electronic ignition needs power, so a Kenmore stove not lighting in an outage is expected. On the 5.2 cu ft gas range, set the knob to OFF, hold a lit match at the ports, then turn to IGNITE.

The 4.8 cu ft gas guide uses a long grill lighter and the LITE position. Ovens follow other rules, set out on our Kenmore oven page.

  • Where can I get Kenmore stove repair near me in the Denver Metro Area?

Right in your kitchen: our insured technicians repair Kenmore ranges on site across the Denver Metro Area. Other Kenmore appliances in your home are on our Kenmore page.
