Older Kenmore Wall Ovens Still in Denver Kitchens

Kenmore no longer sells wall ovens. This page covers Kenmore wall oven repair for the units still in Denver homes, Elite and PRO models included, from Kenmore’s own documents. After a power outage, six of those guides say the oven will not run until its clock is set.

Read the Plate: 790 or 911

Your receipt and Kenmore.com show a retail number, such as 22-48473. The oven’s own plate carries a different one, like 790.4847*. Guides, parts and most recalls go by the plate. Our Kenmore overview explains both numbers across every appliance.

Kenmore’s own guides cover one plate family, 790, across the Kenmore, Elite and PRO lines. To match a Kenmore wall oven model 790 plate to its guide, compare the digits before the star, as in 790.4845*. One cover, for the 22-4952x and 22-4953x doubles, prints 970-4952* instead.

A second family starts with 911. CPSC recall records name GE as the maker of these Kenmore wall ovens and combination ovens, and one recall routes owners to GE. Kenmore’s site links no guide for any 911 model, so we have no Kenmore troubleshooting text to work from. Parts listings also show at least one older combination unit whose plate starts with 665.

The prefix will not tell you the oven’s age or whether a recall covers it. A recall turns on the full model number and, where the record lists one, the serial. Write both down before you book.

A freestanding Kenmore range is a different machine. Its burners and controls are on our page for current Kenmore ranges, its oven on our Kenmore oven page.

Normal Behavior That Looks Like a Fault

Kenmore’s guides flag several things these ovens do on purpose. Check them before you book.

  • Dead after an outage: six Kenmore guides say the oven will not operate until the clock is set to the time of day. Still dead with the clock set and the breaker on? That is a call for us.
  • Fan after shut-off: the PRO, Elite and 24-inch guides call it normal. A cooling fan for the electronics can run for an extended time after cooking.
  • Convection fan stopping: on the Elite 790.4845*, the fan shuts off whenever the door opens during convection. Close the door.
  • Warm air or steam at the controls: the 790.4944* guide puts the vent under the left side of the control panel and calls both normal. Keep it unblocked.
  • Poor cooking or weak self-clean on 790.4944* and 790.4941*: press Broil, set HI and feel for air between the door and the control panel. A rush of air means the oven works. No air stream means a technician replaces the cooling fan.
  • Soil after self-clean: parts of the oven sit outside the self-clean area. The frame, the door liner outside the Kenmore wall oven gasket and the floor’s front center need hand cleaning first. Do not damage the gasket.
  • Self-clean will not start: the door must be fully closed. The Elite guide also wants the racks and rack supports removed.

Checks to Make Before You Book

When a Kenmore wall oven won’t heat up, Kenmore’s own pages point to power and settings before any part. Work through them in this order.

  1. Set the clock: after any outage, set the time of day before judging the oven.
  2. Check the breaker or fuse: the PRO and Elite guides call for an individual branch circuit. The Elite guide also lists a breaker that trips right after installation.
  3. Check the settings: Kenmore lists wrongly set controls among the causes of an oven that will not operate.
  4. Gas model 22-40303: its record lists a power cord on a 15-amp circuit at 120 volts, so check that outlet and its breaker.
  5. Clear any code: on a 790 oven, run Kenmore’s routine from the next section before booking.
  6. Check the recalls: compare the plate number and serial, plus any retail number on your receipt, with the five recalls below. A recalled oven goes to its recall remedy, not to us.

F and E Codes: The Routine Kenmore Prints

None of the twelve Kenmore wall-oven and combination guides we read prints a table of F codes with meanings. Each prints one routine for any code instead, and the combination guide gives F10 as its example. A code that survives it is a real fault. Even then, Kenmore wall oven control board replacement is not our first step.

No code list appears here for the 911 ovens. The same goes for records without a guide: the gas 22-40303, the Elite single ovens and five combination units. A code on any of those is a call. Codes on the oven of a freestanding Kenmore range come from a different guide, on our page for the ovens in current Kenmore ranges.

  1. Clear the display: press STOP, or STOP/CLEAR on the Elite guides. On the PRO models, also turn the oven selectors to OFF.
  2. Try again: start Bake or Broil.
  3. Cut the power: if the code returns, turn off power to the oven for 5 minutes, then restore it.
  4. Set the clock: enter the time of day and try once more.
  5. If it still returns: the PRO guides say call for service, and the combination guide says record the code and call. The other nine stop at pressing STOP.

Combination Wall Ovens: Microwave Above, Oven Below

Kenmore files its microwave and wall oven combinations under built-in microwaves, yet the lower cavity is a wall oven. So they belong on this page. Kenmore’s site keeps six records: 22-49613 and 22-49603, plus the Elite 22-48913, 22-49112, 22-49113 and 22-49119.

Only 22-49613 links a guide, covering 790.4960* and 790.4961*. In it, the sensor, one-touch and defrost pads stop responding if the door was opened and closed without starting a cycle within three minutes. Touch Stop to restore them. A blower that runs on after the microwave stops is normal on this combination.

Sometimes the upper cavity loses its light, cooling fan, turntable and heat at once. Kenmore’s answer is the outlet, fuse and breaker before a call. Its combination guide adds that a microwave should never be serviced by a do-it-yourself repair person. That cavity is ours to repair.

Two recalls reach 911 combination units: 08110 lists 22 Kenmore models, and 09046 covers listed 911 wall ovens, combination units included. Models starting 911 4781 appear in both, so check your plate and serial against each before booking.

We also repair the Kenmore Elite 22-48883 built-in convection microwave, whose record Kenmore.com still keeps; over-the-range and countertop microwaves sit outside what we service.

Parts We Test Once Kenmore’s Checks Run Out

The troubleshooting pages we checked name no failed heating part. They name only the cooling fan on 790.4944*, a shorted cord or plug in the Elite guide, and the light bulb. Past that, the diagnosis is ours.

We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. We fit OEM parts when the supplier has the right one, ordered by the full plate number.

  • Elements: an electric oven that powers up, shows no code and stays cold gets its bake and broil elements tested first.
  • Temperature: on the PRO 790.4114*, try the UPO offset first. If the oven still runs hot or cool, we test the Kenmore wall oven thermostat or sensor it uses.
  • Door gasket: a torn Kenmore wall oven seal is a part we replace, matched to the plate number.
  • Gas model: on the 22-40303, we test each Kenmore wall oven burner and its gas supply. A burner that will not light also gets the Kenmore wall oven igniter checked.
  • Controls: a board is ordered only after Kenmore’s routine and our own tests point to it.

Warranty on an Older Kenmore Wall Oven

Kenmore’s current warranty page carries no statement for wall ovens or combination wall ovens. The old guides and some Kenmore.com records disagree on the length of the original warranty. We have no sale date for your oven. Only your paperwork can show whether coverage remains.

If it does, the claim goes to Kenmore’s warranty service, through the store that sold it. Outside coverage, the repair is ours.

Keep the model and serial plate on the oven. Kenmore’s warranty page excludes service when that plate is missing or altered, and so do the PRO, Elite and 24-inch guides.

When to Call Wilson & Myers

Set the clock, check the breaker and, on a 790 oven, run Kenmore’s code routine first. Then compare your plate and receipt with the recall list below; a recalled oven goes to its remedy.

Everything past those checks is ours, whatever the prefix. That includes a code that returns, an oven that powers up and stays cold, and a self-clean that will not start.

I usually ask for the full plate number before the visit, plus the retail number if you have the receipt. Together they decide which Kenmore guide and which recall apply.

Our insured technicians work on the oven in your home, anywhere in the Denver Metro Area. Every paid repair carries our 100-day labor warranty on the work on your invoice. Book your repair online and include the plate number.

Wall ovens sit in our Kenmore cooking appliances section, alongside current ranges and their ovens, older cooktops and range hoods. If a Kenmore cooktop shares the kitchen, it has its own plate. Our Kenmore cooktop page shows where to find it.

Kenmore Wall Oven Recalls to Check First

Five CPSC recalls name Kenmore wall ovens. We do not repair a recalled unit; if your oven matches a record, follow the remedy it gives. None of the five records says its remedy has ended, and none confirms it is still offered.

  • CPSC 16759, 24-inch electric wall ovens

The fault is a Kenmore wall oven switch: a thermal switch that can malfunction and start a fire. Stop using the oven now. Contact Electrolux or Kenmore’s recall line for a free inspection and repair. A 22-40253 or 22-40283 is covered only if its full plate and serial match.

  • CPSC 08573, 24-inch gas wall ovens

During extended broiling, gas can build up in the oven and escape when the door opens, causing burns or fire. Stop using Broil; Bake may still be used. Contact Kenmore’s recall line for a free repair. The gas 22-40303 on Kenmore.com is not named in it.

  • CPSC 09046, 911 wall ovens, combination units included

Self-clean heat can escape if the door was removed and put back incorrectly, causing fire or burns. A wrongly re-attached door will not open to the flat position. If yours will not, skip self-clean and call GE for a free repair. Bake and broil may continue.

  • CPSC 08110, 911 combination ovens

The microwave door switch can overheat and ignite plastic in the control area, a fire hazard. Stop using the microwave. The lower oven may still be used; if 09046 also lists your model and serial, run its door check before any self-clean. Contact Kenmore’s recall line for a free repair or a rebate toward a new Kenmore unit.

  • CPSC 04576, double wall ovens 22-47722, 22-47724, 22-47729

Faulty wiring can melt and short-circuit, so the oven stops working and poses a shock hazard. Stop using it immediately and contact GE for a free repair. These are 27 and 30-inch doubles whose knob-controlled lower oven does not self-clean.

Kenmore Wall Oven Repair FAQ

  • My Kenmore wall oven won't heat up. What should I check first?

Start where Kenmore’s guides start: power and settings. After an outage, set the clock, because six Kenmore guides say the oven will not operate until it is set. Then check the breaker or fuse and make sure Bake or Broil is really selected.

If it powers up, shows no code and stays cold, the owner checks are done. The rest is our work. We test each Kenmore wall oven element, the temperature control and the wiring before ordering a part.

  • Where is the model number on a Kenmore wall oven?

On a plate on the oven itself. The Elite 790.4845*, 790.4847* and 790.4844* guides put it on the left side of the oven frame, seen with the door open. CPSC places it on a left interior wall on 911 units, inside the microwave on the 911 combination ovens.

Kenmore’s manual search needs that plate number, not a retail number such as 22-48473.

  • Does a 790 prefix mean my Kenmore wall oven is under recall?

No. The prefix alone says nothing about a recall. Recalls 16759 and 08573 name exact 790 plate numbers with serial ranges, and 09046 and 08110 name 911 models with their serial starts. 04576 lists retail numbers only.

Compare your plate, serial and any retail number on your receipt with the recall table above. We do not repair a recalled oven.

  • How do I remove a Kenmore wall oven for service?

The Kenmore.com records link no installation guide. So there are no Kenmore steps we can quote on how to remove Kenmore wall oven units. The 790.4028* guide does say the appliance must be accessible for service. It sends a built-in that is too tight to the builder or installer.

The records list weights from 97 lb for the 24-inch single 22-40283 to 300 lb for the PRO double 22-41143. Leave the pull to us.

  • Do you repair Kenmore wall ovens with a 911 model number?

Yes. Kenmore’s site links no guide for a 911 model, so we work from the plate and our own tests.

Check two recalls first. 09046 covers listed 911 wall ovens, combination units included; 08110 covers the microwave of listed 911 combination ovens. Both are in the table above.

  • Does Kenmore still make wall ovens?

No. Kenmore’s site has no wall-oven category today, but it keeps support records and most of the guides for its older models. Those documents are what our repairs work from.
