Kenmore and Kenmore PRO Range Hood Repair in Denver Metro

Kenmore no longer sells range hoods. This page covers Kenmore range hood repair for the hoods still in Denver homes, PRO models included, from Kenmore’s own guides. Two apparent faults are by design: a PRO hood can start itself over heat, and a 36-inch under-cabinet model waits for a speed button.

Which Kenmore Hood You Have, by Plate and by Controls

We repair both lines, and the plate decides which of Kenmore’s five hood guides applies. Two numbers identify a Kenmore hood. The retail number, such as 22-51282, is the one Kenmore’s product pages list. The plate model number is the one a technician needs, prefix included.

Every hood plate number we traced starts with 233. A Kenmore range hood model 233.5128* and a Kenmore PRO 233.56043 share that prefix and little else. The digits after the dot point to the guide, and the guides differ in controls, lamps and duct rules. Our Kenmore page explains how both numbers work across the brand’s appliances.

No Kenmore document, recall or parts listing we read names who built the 233 hoods. So we work from Kenmore’s guides, never from another brand’s manual. None of those guides says where the label sits. If you cannot find it, your controls narrow the hood to one or two guides, as the table shows.

An over-the-range microwave is not a hood: Kenmore files those models with its microwaves, and we do not take them. No Kenmore Elite hood appears in Kenmore’s records. A downdraft vent built into an Elite cooktop belongs on our Kenmore cooktop page.

Symptoms Kenmore Explains, From Heat Sentry to Bearing Noise

None of the five hood guides prints an error code. The only status light sits on the PRO hoods, a blower indicator or pilot lamp lit whenever the blower runs. Two PRO behaviors look like faults and are protection.

  • Heat Sentry, all three PRO hoods

A thermostat starts the blower, or raises it to HIGH, when it senses excessive heat above the cooking surface. It does this even with the hood switched off. The blower returns to its previous setting once the heat drops. Until then the hood’s own switch cannot stop it; only the main electrical panel can.

  • Thermal overload, all three PRO hoods

When the motor overheats, the overload shuts it off, and the motor restarts once it cools. Kenmore treats that as protection. If it keeps stopping and restarting, Kenmore says to have the hood serviced.

  • Blower will not start, 36-inch under-cabinet: on the 233.5128* and 233.5129* hoods, the blower stays off while every speed button is up.
  • Unusual motor noise, under-cabinet hoods: the motor is permanently lubricated and never needs oiling. For bearing noise, Kenmore specifies replacement parts, listed below.
  • Noise or imbalance after a remodel: Kenmore warns that drywall spray and construction dust can damage motor bearings and unbalance the impeller. It says to cover the hood during the work.
  • Weak draw, grease or odors that linger: Kenmore’s filter intervals and duct figures both bear on these. Each is covered below.
  • A light is out: these hoods take halogen bulbs, and the type changes by family. The checks below list each one.

Owner Checks Taken From Kenmore’s Guides

These come from the operating, cleaning and caution sections of Kenmore’s guides. Work through them in order; step four cuts the power before anything inside the hood is touched.

  1. Match the controls: compare your switches, buttons, knobs or slides with the table above to find your family.
  2. Select a speed: on a 36-inch push-button hood, press one of the three speed buttons before you decide the blower is dead.
  3. Give a PRO hood time: if it started by itself or jumped to HIGH, let the heat over the cooking surface drop. It returns to its previous setting on its own.
  4. Power off at the panel: before servicing the hood, Kenmore says to cut power at the service panel and lock or tag it. This matters twice on a PRO hood. Its thermostat can start the blower.
  5. Clean the filters: wash the under-cabinet aluminum mesh filters about once a month, more often for frying or wok cooking. Replace their non-ducted charcoal filters every 3 to 6 months. PRO filters are dishwasher safe. The PRO wall hoods add a grease drip rail to clean.
  6. Fit the right bulb: under-cabinet hoods take two shielded halogen bulbs, 120 V, 50 W maximum, MR16 or PAR16 with a GU10 base. Kenmore advises against most GU10 LED swaps. PRO wall hoods take two 50 W GU10 halogens. The PRO island hood takes four T3 halogens, 12 V, 20 W maximum, G-4 base, never touched with bare hands.

Weak Airflow and Kenmore’s Duct-Length Figures

Kenmore publishes what duct length costs. The 30-inch 233.5126* reaches about 80 percent of its rated airflow through 35 equivalent feet of 7-inch round duct. The 233.5128*/5129* and 233.5139* guides put about 80 percent at 25 equivalent feet.

The 233.5139* guide also prints a table of maximum duct lengths for 80 percent exhaust efficiency, shown below. It warns that a fan installed on existing ducts may not reach its rated airflow.

On a weak hood, we check the run before we condemn the motor. Ducted hoods vent outdoors through metal duct only. The PRO guides forbid ending a duct in a wall or ceiling space, an attic, a crawl space or a garage. On the under-cabinet hoods, the damper must open and close freely.

Kenmore also warns that fuel-burning equipment needs enough air to prevent backdrafting. For the PRO hoods, with their high exhaust capacity, it says to open a window near the kitchen.

Motor, Fan Blade and Blower: The Parts Kenmore Names

For bearing noise in a Kenmore range hood motor, the under-cabinet guides call for the exact service motor and a new fan blade. Both parts go in together. The PRO wall guide says the supplied blower cannot be substituted.

Kenmore no longer sells a hood, but its site still lists grease filters, charcoal filters and several hood kits. We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. Each part is matched to the full plate number. We fit OEM parts when the supplier has the right one.

If the right part cannot be found for an older hood, we tell you before any work starts. Replacing the hood is then installation work, which we also handle.

The One-Year Warranty Printed in Kenmore’s Hood Guides

All five Kenmore hood guides print the same term. It runs one year from the date of sale, against defects in material or workmanship. A defective hood is repaired or replaced, at the seller’s option, with proof of sale.

Painted and bright metal finishes get thirty days. Filters and screw-in bulbs are excluded, and all coverage is void if the hood serves anything but a private household. The guides also exclude a hood whose model and serial plate is missing or altered.

Kenmore’s current warranty page carries no range hood statement. A hood still inside its first year goes to Kenmore’s warranty service, through the store that sold it, with proof of sale. Past that year, we diagnose and repair it.

When to Call Wilson & Myers

Run the checks above first: the speed button, the PRO heat response, the filters and the bulb. If the hood still misbehaves, the rest is work for a technician.

The guides send three things to service: a PRO motor that keeps cycling, bearing noise on an under-cabinet hood, and any electrical wiring. None of these hoods shipped with a power cord. Each is wired in, or connected through a cord kit approved for that model, and Kenmore says not to add a speed-control device.

I usually ask which controls the hood has before the visit: rocker switches, push buttons, knobs or slides. That alone narrows the hood to one or two guides.

Our Kenmore cooking appliances page routes the rest of the line, from Kenmore ranges and their ovens to older wall ovens and cooktops.

Kenmore Range Hood Repair FAQ

  • Why is my Kenmore range hood fan not working?

It depends on the family. Kenmore documents two causes that are not a failed motor. On the 36-inch under-cabinet hoods (233.5128*/5129*), the blower stays off until a speed button is pressed. On the PRO hoods, the thermal overload stops an overheated motor until it cools, then lets it restart.

If a PRO motor keeps cycling, Kenmore says to have the hood serviced. If nothing runs after those checks, we trace the fault from the plate number on a visit.

  • Why won't my Kenmore PRO hood turn off?

Heat Sentry is the first thing to rule out. The thermostat on all three PRO hoods can hold the blower on, or on HIGH, while it senses excessive heat above the cooking surface. The hood’s switch cannot override it; the main electrical panel can.

If the blower stays on after the cooking surface has cooled, that is not what Kenmore describes. It needs a technician.

  • What does a Kenmore range hood fan replacement involve?

On the under-cabinet hoods, Kenmore’s answer to bearing noise is the exact service motor plus a new fan blade. On the PRO wall hoods, the supplied blower cannot be substituted. We match either part to the full plate number.

  • Can I use LED bulbs in a Kenmore range hood?

Kenmore advises against it on the under-cabinet hoods. Their guide says most GU10 LED replacement bulbs are not designed for a cooking environment, and their use is not recommended. It also rules out cool-beam and dichroic lamps, and any lamp not rated for enclosed or recessed fixtures.

  • Where is the model number on a Kenmore range hood?

None of Kenmore’s hood guides says where the label sits. The plate number starts with 233, and the full number decides which guide applies.

If you cannot find it, the retail number from your purchase, such as 22-51282, or a description of the controls is enough to start.

  • Has a Kenmore range hood ever been recalled?

Our check of CPSC records in October 2026 found no recall for a Kenmore range hood. The nearest match, recall 02018 from 2001, covers Kenmore over-the-range microwave-hood combinations. Those are microwaves, and we do not take them. Owners should follow that CPSC notice.
