Viking Built-In Microwaves in Denver Metro: Drawers, Speed Oven, Trim-Kit Models

Before you book, check for Demo mode: a Viking microwave whose display counts down very fast is running with no heat. Our Viking microwave repair covers three built-in kinds: DrawerMicro drawers, the VMDD5306 drop-down-door speed oven and trim-kit models. Over-the-range microwave hoods (VMOR506, RVMH330, RVMHC330) and countertop use of the trim-kit models sit outside what we service.

Six Current Models on This Page, and How Viking Builds Each One In

Viking prints a separate manual for each model below. They differ on display messages, locks and door behavior, so Viking microwave oven repair starts from the model number.

The VMOS501 is titled 24 inches wide. Its trim kits come in 27 and 30 inches, to match the wall oven or warming drawer below. A built-in Viking Professional microwave can be a VMOS501 framed by a VMTK272 or VMTK302, which Viking titles Professional Built-in Trim Kit.

A Viking Professional convection microwave can be a current VMOC506 or a discontinued VMOC206, framed by a VMTK277 or VMTK307. Those kits add exhaust ducts on top. The RVL combi-speed MVMSP6301 is filed under both microwaves and wall ovens; our Viking wall oven page covers it.

Built-in microwaves share our Viking cooking appliances section with ranges, wall ovens, cooktops and range hoods. A VMDD5306 may sit below a Viking cooktop, and our cooktop page covers that unit. Three install details change a visit. The VMOD5240 needs its anti-tip block, the VMODC5240 a 20-amp supply, and the VMDD5306 a 220 to 240 volt circuit.

Where the Identification Label Sits, and Why It Names a Kit

Viking’s manuals put the identification label on the left side of the oven cavity on all six models. Some guides add a second spot.

Viking says the production date is in the serial number. It does not show where on a microwave, so we do not read a date from it.

  • VMOD5240: open the drawer fully. The name plate sits just beyond the back wall of the cavity, facing up.
  • VMODC5240: the bottom left of the oven face plate, with the drawer fully open.
  • VMDD5306: open the door; the serial plate is at the bottom left of the face plate.
  • VMOS501 and VMOC506: the trim-kit guide puts the rating label on the cavity’s bottom face plate. It names the kits the unit may use.
  • RVM320: the RVMTK330 guide’s warning names RDMTK302, a discontinued D3 kit, but its own table pairs the RVM320 with the RVMTK330.

Display Words, Not Numbered Codes: What Each Message Means

Viking prints no numbered fault code for any built-in microwave this page covers. The displays show words instead. Those words cover power cuts, entry mistakes, locks and Demo mode, and they differ by model.

Demo Mode First: Checks From Viking’s Own Manuals

When a Viking microwave not heating still lights up, beeps and counts down, check Demo mode first. The drawer manuals name it as a cause. The VMDD5306, VMOS501, VMOC506 and RVM320 manuals add that a display counting down very rapidly means Demonstration Mode.

If Demo is off, the lock is off and Viking’s water test below still fails, that is a repair.

  1. Demo mode: exit with your model’s key sequence from the tables above.
  2. Drawer frozen, panel ignoring you: Control Lock is on. Hold the lock key three seconds; any power cut also clears it.
  3. Drawer moved by hand: use the pad instead. Pushing or pulling by hand is for emergencies such as a power failure, though Viking lets a VMODC5240 be pushed gently closed.
  4. Drawer catching: food taller than the drawer’s side walls, or crumbs on the drawer guides, are Viking’s own cautions.
  5. Door will not open mid-cycle: on the VMOS501, VMOC506 and RVM320, touch Door, then press the button within about 10 seconds. Help or Settings can switch the feature off.
  6. ERROR during sensor cooking: the sensor missed the vapor. Opening the door or drawer while it senses also causes it, so finish by time.
  7. Fan running after use: normal for an extended time on the VMODC5240, and up to 5 minutes on the VMDD5306 and VMOC506.
  8. Steam and cycling: steam at a drawer’s vent is normal, and so is the magnetron cycling below full power on the drawers and the VMDD5306.

Viking’s One-Minute Water Test for the Built-In Models

The VMDD5306, VMOS501, VMOC506 and RVM320 manuals print the same service-call check. It needs only a glass measuring cup. The drawers print a Before You Call table instead, which the checks above follow.

  1. Put one cup of water in a glass measuring cup and run it for one minute on HIGH.
  2. Check that the oven light comes on.
  3. Feel for the cooling fan with a hand over the rear vents, or over the left side of the louver on the RVM320.
  4. Watch the turntable turn; either direction is normal.
  5. Check that the water is warm at the end.
  6. On the VMDD5306 and VMOC506, run 5 minutes at Convection 450°F: CONV and COOK should light and the cavity should be hot.
  7. Any no: check the outlet, fuse and breaker. If those are fine, Viking sends you to service.

What Viking Says Only a Qualified Technician Should Touch

Every current Viking built-in microwave manual says never to run the oven with the door open or tamper with the safety interlocks. It also says not to run one with a damaged door, hinge, latch or seal. Only properly qualified personnel may repair it.

The waveguide cover inside the cavity is a mica panel, and Viking says never to remove it. Keep it clean: built-up splashes on it can overheat, smoke or catch fire.

When the light fails, Viking sends owners of every model on this page to service, not to a new bulb.

The VMOS501 and VMOC506 manuals end their service check with one warning: a do-it-yourself repair person should never service these built-in units.

The RVM320 and VMDD5306 print the same warning.

Discontinued Viking Microwaves: Professional, Designer and D3 Models

Viking still documents its discontinued built-in microwaves, and we repair them when they are built in. Parts depend on what the supplier still has. None of their manuals prints a numbered code. Most show entry and sensor ERROR messages and a demonstration mode, and the VHSO205 below adds a voltage error.

A Viking VMOS200 microwave was built in with a trim kit matched to the oven below it. Viking’s current trim kit guide still lists the Viking microwave VMOS201SS beside the VMOS501SS for the VMTK272 and VMTK302.

Older drawer models include the DMOD240, DMOD241 and VMOD241. A built-in Viking Designer Series microwave carries a D prefix: the DMOS200, the DMOS201 and the convection DMOC205. A Viking D3 microwave built in the same way carries an RD prefix, such as the RDMOS201.

Older over-the-range microwave hoods (DMOR200, DMOR205, DMOR206, VMOR205, RDMOR200, RDMOR206 and VMOH330) sit outside what we service, like the current ones.

The VHSO205 High Speed Convection Oven is discontinued. It needs a 240-volt supply. It stops cooking with an error message when the supply runs more than 7% above or 10% below 240 volts.

When to Call Wilson & Myers

Check Demo mode, the locks and the water test first. Note the exact words on the display.

What is left is ours. That means no heat with Demo off, a drawer that will not move with Control Lock off, or a door that will not latch. A failed light or a cooling fan that never starts is ours too.

I usually ask for the model number and the display words first. A VMOD5240 drawer and a VMOS501 behind a trim kit have different manuals, locks and demo steps.

Our insured technicians cover the Denver Metro Area. We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. Every paid repair carries our 100-day labor warranty on the work on your invoice; parts carry their maker’s warranty. Book your repair online and tell us whether it is a drawer, the speed oven or a trim-kit model.

Viking’s Microwave Warranty: Two Years Full, Then the Magnetron

Viking’s January 2026 warranty sheet covers its built-in microwaves and speed ovens in full, parts and labor, for two years. In years 3 to 5 it covers the magnetron as a part only. The owner pays labor and shipping.

Older manuals disagree. The VMOD5240, VMOS501, VMOC506 and RVM320 manuals print the magnetron years as 2 to 5. The RVM320 manual also prints one year of full cover, where its spec sheet and the current sheet say two. Confirm the term for your unit with Viking.

Viking’s warranty service handles the repair in the first two years, and damage from anyone else’s repair is excluded. From year 3 through year 5, only the magnetron is covered, as a part; ask Viking who may fit it. Every other repair in those years, and every one after them, is ours.

No recall touches a Viking microwave drawer, built-in microwave or speed oven. Viking’s recall page checks any unit by model and serial. Our Viking brand page lists the recalls that exist.

Viking Microwave Repair FAQ

  • Why is my Viking microwave not heating?

Check Demo mode first. On the drawer models and the built-in VMDD5306, VMOS501, VMOC506 and RVM320, Demo mode runs the display with no heat. The countdown moves very fast. Exit it with your model’s key sequence.

If Demo is off and Viking’s water test leaves the water cold, book a repair.

  • Why is my Viking microwave not working after a power outage?

A power cut erases the program and the clock. Each built-in model then shows a WELCOME or ENJOY message until you touch Stop/Clear and set the time. On the drawer models, the cut also clears Control Lock.

If the display stays dark, check the outlet and the breaker. Viking rules out extension cords for the drawers, the VMDD5306 and the RVM320.

  • Why won't my Viking microwave drawer open or close?

Check Control Lock first. It locks the panel and the drawer mechanism; the display shows LOCK ON when it is set. Hold the lock key three seconds.

Then clear any crumbs from the drawer guides. Load nothing taller than the side walls. If the pad still does nothing, it needs a Viking microwave drawer repair visit.

  • Do you repair Viking over-the-range microwaves?

No. Viking’s over-the-range models are the VMOR506, RVMH330 and RVMHC330 microwave hoods, and they sit outside what we service. So does countertop use of the trim-kit models.

If the Viking range under the hood needs work, our Viking range page covers its burners, and the oven page covers its oven.

  • Where can I find Viking microwave repair near me in the Denver Metro Area?

Wilson & Myers covers the Denver Metro Area. Our insured technicians repair Viking drawer, speed oven and trim-kit built-in models. Book online with the model number and the words on the display.

  • Is my Viking microwave still under warranty?

For two years from purchase, Viking covers a built-in unit in full through Viking’s warranty service. In years 3 to 5, its current warranty sheet covers the magnetron as a part only. Some older manuals print years 2 to 5, so confirm the term with Viking. Any other repair is ours.

  • Can you repair an older Viking Professional Series microwave?

Yes, when it is built in. The discontinued V-prefix models include the Viking microwave VMOS200, the VMOS201, the VMOC205 and the VMOC206, and Viking’s library still holds their manuals. Parts depend on what the supplier still has.
