Viking range repair starts at the plate, because the line printed there decides the burners, the checks and any recall. We repair Viking gas, dual fuel and electric ranges across the Denver Metro Area, current and legacy. One fact can save you a visit. When a burner clicks but will not light, Viking’s own table names the gas supply, not a part.
Each current Viking range line has its own manual, burner system and model prefix. The all-induction ranges, VIR5304, VIR5364, VIR5484 and RVIR330, sit outside what we service. On a Tuscany TVDR4814I or TVDR6616I, the gas burners and ovens are ours, while the induction section sits outside what we service.
The word Professional does not date a range. It sits on current 5 and 7 Series manuals and on older ones, so a Viking Professional gas stove can be either. The plate settles it.
Read every character of the model, too. A current 5 Series gas SKU reads like VGR53044B; the previous generation, now discontinued, reads VGR5304B, and the 2022 recall lists those shorter strings.
The oven inside your range has its own Viking oven page. Viking’s 7 Series rangetops share a manual with these ranges but have their own Viking cooktop and rangetop page. Built-in wall ovens have a Viking wall oven page too, and hoods sit with all of them under our Viking cooking appliances.
| Line | Families | What sits on top |
|---|---|---|
| 5 Series gas | VGR5304, VGR5364, VGR5484, VGR5604 | VSH sealed burners; griddle options; a char-grill on the 60 inch |
| 5 Series open burner | VGIC5302, VGIC5362, VGIC5482 | Open burners over porcelain bowls; no griddle |
| 5 Series dual fuel | VDR5304, VDR5364, VDR5484, VDR5604 | VGR burner tops over an electric oven |
| 5 Series electric | VER5304 | Four radiant elements and a bridge element |
| 7 Series | VGR7362, VGR7482, VDR7362, VDR7482 | Sealed burners and backlit knobs; a reversible griddle and grill on G models |
| 3 Series, 30 inch | RVGR3302, RVDR3302, RVER3301 | Five sealed burners, or five radiant elements |
| Tuscany dual fuel | TVDR361, TVDR481, TVDR661 | Sealed gas burners; an electric griddle on G models |
Viking puts the model and serial plate in a different place on each line. Look only when the range is cool, as its recall notices say. Every Viking gas range repair we book starts from that plate.
The serial’s first six digits are the build date: month, day, then year. Viking’s example 082421C10019872 was built August 24, 2021. That date settles recall questions, and it starts the warranty for a later owner without a receipt or registration.
None of Viking’s ten current range manuals prints a fault-code list. The burners, the clicking and the knob lights are the signals, and for the clicking faults Viking’s tables name no part at all.
A Viking stove igniter not clicking at any burner points to power: the plug, a breaker or a fuse. Oven indicator lights, and the yellow self-clean ring on 7 Series dual fuel ranges, are on our Viking oven page.
| What you see | Causes Viking lists | Part named |
|---|---|---|
| No click at any burner | Range unplugged, a tripped breaker or a blown fuse | None |
| Clicks, but no flame | Gas supply valve off, or the supply interrupted | None |
| Keeps clicking after it lights | Supply not grounded, polarity reversed, or igniters wet or dirty | None |
| Flame large, distorted or yellow | Clogged ports, the wrong gas type, or air shutters out of adjustment | None; gas type and shutters are technician work |
| Burner relights by itself | Automatic re-ignition while gas flows | None; normal |
Every Viking gas stove repair should start with these checks from the current manuals, and each names its lines. Viking ties improper ignition and uneven flames after cleaning to caps that are not clean and level. That holds on today’s 5, 3 and 7 Series and the VGIC.
The power light goes off at temperature, then cycles as the thermostat holds heat. Empty the front grease trough after each use; Viking calls built-up grease a fire hazard.
Viking says the griddle will not work while the oven self-cleans. Wait for the clean to end.
It is reversible; set it open edge to the front so grease drains.
The electric griddle’s power light goes off once preheated, then cycles.
Turn the hood on first and preheat 5 to 10 minutes on HI; some flare-up is normal. Viking’s outdoor grills sit outside what we service.
Viking’s documentation library still lists ranges it no longer sells. A Viking D3 range, now discontinued, carries an RD prefix, such as RDSCD230. Discontinued Designer ranges include the DSCD1301 and DSCE130. On any Viking Professional range, the plate tells you the generation.
We repair these older ranges too, after the plate and recall checks.
If you smell gas, Viking’s own steps come first, before any booking. Every current Viking gas range manual we checked prints the same six, in this order.
Do not try to light any appliance. Do not touch any electrical switch. Do not use any phone in your building.
Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions. If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.
Call us once Viking’s checks are done and a burner still will not click, will not light, or clicks nonstop when dry. A griddle that never holds temperature is ours too. Viking’s guides for the 5 Series VGR, VDR and VER5304 and the RVDR3302 and RVER3301 add one stop-and-call item. A cooling fan that does not run, or runs with unusual noise, needs service before more cooking.
Viking’s manuals put flame adjustment, and any conversion between natural gas and LP, in professional hands. I usually start with the plate and the build date, because the line decides which burner, griddle and recall facts apply. A 5 Series gas range built August 10 to December 1, 2021 needs the recall check below first.
In warranty, Viking stove service goes to Viking’s warranty service first, and we do not repair a range inside a recall. Outside both, Viking stove service is ours. The Viking stove repairs we take on start where Viking’s checks end: ignition parts, valves, burners, griddle thermostats and cooling fans.
We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts, and fit OEM parts when the supplier has the right one. Our Viking range repair service covers the Denver Metro Area with insured technicians. Every paid repair carries our 100-day labor warranty on the work on your invoice. Book a repair online with the model number and build date.
Viking’s recall page covers two range recalls and has a model and serial checker. Use it rather than the first letters of a model. The current VGIC53024B begins with VGIC530, and the current VGIC53626B with VGIC536. Both strings appear in the 2015 recall, which covers ranges sold from 2007 to 2014.
We do not repair a recalled range; Viking’s free repair comes first.
Certain 5 Series gas ranges built August 10 to December 1, 2021. Base models VGR5304B, VGR5366B, VGR5364G, VGR5488B, VGR5486G, VGIC53024B and VGIC53626B carry date codes 081021 to 120121, with any color, burner or propane suffix. The VGR5606GQ’s window opens in September 2021, with a start date Viking and the CPSC print differently, so check it by serial. Dual fuel VDR ranges are not affected.
Tubing to the bake, broil and griddle burners can separate, risking a gas leak and fire. Stop using bake, broil and the griddle; the top burners stay usable. Viking’s free repair replaces the tubing in about 90 minutes, with an adult present.
The six VGR models are the previous 5 Series generation; current VGR SKUs carry one more digit. The two VGIC models belong to the current VGIC5302 and VGIC5362 families.
Certain older VGIC, VGCC and VGSC gas ranges can turn their ovens on by themselves when liquid seeps into the control panel area. Keep liquid away from behind the panel and landing ledge. If it gets in, or the oven turns on alone, stop using it and switch off the breaker until Viking’s free repair.
| Model | Serial date codes covered |
|---|---|
| VGIC306, VGIC308, VGIC366, VGIC368 | Every serial date code |
| VGIC486, VGIC488, VGIC530, VGIC536 | Every serial date code |
| VGCC530 | 040108 to 010313 |
| VGCC536 | 110108 to 010913 |
| VGCC548 | 020109 to 010913 |
| VGCC560 | 050111 to 010313 |
| VGSC530 | 063008 to 063014 |
| VGSC536 | 113008 to 063014 |
| VGSC548 | 030109 to 063014 |
Viking’s current warranty sheet covers a range and all its parts for two years from the original retail purchase. On new construction it runs from closing when that is longer. Inside that window, Viking’s warranty service does the work. Damage from anyone else’s repair is excluded.
Years three to five cover the part only, and the owner pays labor, shipping and handling. On a gas range that means the surface, bake, broil, griddle and grill burners, but not ignition systems, burner bases or caps. On an electric range, it means the elements.
Older warranty pages in the 7 Series, VGIC and RVGR3302 manuals omit those exclusions, so confirm your term with Viking. Cover passes to a later owner only with a home sale, and a range bought used, refurbished or as B-stock has none.
Outside Viking’s cover, Viking range service is ours. Viking’s text does not say who may fit a part it ships in years three to five, so ask Viking first.
My Viking stove igniter keeps clicking after the burner lights. What causes it?
Viking’s tables give three causes, and none is a part. The supply is not grounded, its polarity is reversed, or the igniters are wet or dirty.
Let wet igniters dry and clean dirty ones first. If it still clicks, grounding and polarity are electrical checks; the ignition parts after that are ours.
Can I replace a Viking range ignitor myself?
Viking’s manuals say not to replace any part unless the manual recommends it. Drying and cleaning igniters is owner work; replacing one is ours. The current warranty sheet leaves ignition systems out of its part-only years.
Is there Viking stove repair near me in the Denver Metro Area?
Yes. Our Viking stove repair service covers gas, dual fuel and electric ranges in your kitchen, anywhere in the Denver Metro Area. The all-induction ranges and any range inside a recall sit outside what we service.
Other Viking appliances in your home are on our Viking page.
Where can I get Viking range repair near me for an older Professional or D3 range?
Right here: we repair the legacy gas, dual fuel and electric ranges Viking still documents, including Professional, Designer and D3 units. Some older VGIC, VGCC and VGSC gas ranges sit in the 2015 recall, so read the plate first.
Can a Viking range run on propane?
Yes. Viking says every range can be ordered for LP, and a natural gas range can be converted with its kit. Viking leaves conversion to professionals: a dealer, a licensed plumber or a gas service company in the VGIC and 3 Series guides.
On a 5 Series VGR, the broiler orifice is changed from the rear before installation. Tell us at booking if your range was converted, since the wrong gas type can cause a large, yellow flame.
Is a Viking Professional stove the same as a 5 Series?
Not always. A Viking Professional gas range can be a current 5 Series VGR or VGIC, or a 7 Series. It can also be a legacy VGIC, VGCC or VGSC from the older Professional Series. The plate tells you which, and the older ones need a recall check first.
Tell us the model number from the plate and which burner does it. The line on that plate decides Viking's checks and any recall.
