Every current Viking dishwasher is a 24-inch built-in from the 3, 5 or 7 Series. Some water below the filter screen is normal; standing water above it after Viking’s checks is a service call. Wilson & Myers handles Viking dishwasher repair across the Denver Metro Area, on current models and older Professional and Designer units.
The model number names the series and the front. VDWU means Viking installed its stainless Professional panel; FDWU takes a custom panel to match your cabinets. The digits 324, 524 and 724 mean the 3, 5 and 7 Series, and WS adds a water softener.
The refrigerator, freezer, ice maker and wine cooler have their own pages under Viking kitchen appliances.
Open the door to find it. The 3, 5 and 7 Series manuals put the model and serial label on the left side of the tub. Viking’s installation guide also shows one on the right side of the inner door, so check both.
Viking asks for that model number, the serial, the purchase date and the dealer’s name. On the older units in its recall notices, Viking reads the serial’s first six digits as month, day, year. Its example: serial 052710D00016765, built May 27, 2010.
Viking’s current manuals print two fault codes and a few status displays, with the same meanings on the 3, 5 and 7 Series. Neither code names a broken part.
On every current VDWU and FDWU model, Viking dishwasher error code E01 means the machine took in too much water, or a component is leaking. Viking prints it as E:01. A safety routine then tries to drain the water, and the code clears if the overflow stops.
For any malfunction, the 3 and 5 Series manual says to switch the dishwasher off and close the water supply. A Viking dishwasher E01 error code that will not clear is a permanent fault in Viking’s words.
E:01 is not a drain pump code, and E:02 is not a drain failure. Code lists online that run E1 to E7 and F1 to F3 appear in no Viking dishwasher manual we have read.
If E:02 returns with the tap open, rinse the inlet hose filter on a 3 or 5 Series, as its manual shows. If E:02 still returns, it is past Viking’s owner checks.
| Display | Viking's meaning | What Viking has you do |
|---|---|---|
| E:01 | Too much water taken in, or a component leaking | The safety routine tries to drain it. If E:01 stays, Viking calls it a permanent fault for its warranty service. |
| E:02 | Water supply cut, or the inlet tap closed | Open the tap. The program pauses, and E:02 clears once water returns. |
| SAN | Sanitize finished, not a fault; missing if the cycle was interrupted or the water did not heat enough | Viking names no owner step. Its spec sheets require 120 °F inlet water. |
| 0:01 | A canceled program | Close the door: it drains for 2 minutes, then beeps. Not a fault. |
Viking dishwasher troubleshooting starts with checks an owner can make. Viking prints them for today’s 3, 5 and 7 Series, unless a step names an older model.
Older Viking dishwasher error codes, on the Professional, Designer, Custom Panel, D3 and 324 Series, are flashing lights. Viking Professional dishwasher models start VDB, Designer models DDB, and Custom Panel models DFB or FDB. The D3 line starts RDDB. The 324 Series is the RVDW324.
Their two-light charts count POTS/PANS flashes first, then NORMAL WASH flashes. A drain error is one flash, then five. On these older models, the Viking dishwasher reset button is START, held for 4 seconds. If the code returns, Viking says to call for service.
One fault, two codes: Fill Too Fast Error is 4-2 on the 451 Series and 4-5 on the D3 and 324 Series. The build date matters too. A 325 or 450 built before 05/26/10 uses a five-light pattern, and the serial’s first six digits show which.
On that older chart, all five cycle lights flashing is a Cycle Error. On the later one, every light but START and RUN flashing is Power Loss.
If the sink will not drain during the 1-5 check, the clog is past the dishwasher; a jammed disposer is a garbage disposal repair. A Viking dishwasher drain pump fault, 3-3, gets no owner check.
| Code | Fault on Viking's chart | Owner checks Viking adds |
|---|---|---|

| 1-2 | Motor Control Status Error | None |
| 1-3 | Motor Control Comms Error | None |

| 2-1 | Sensor disconnect | None |
| 2-2 | Fill Timeout | Supply on, fill line not kinked, unit level, no drop in pressure at the sink. |
| 2-3 | Low Level Sensor Error | No dish turned over and holding water. Drain hose high loop in place. |

| 2-5 | Level Sensor Error, missing on 451, D3 and 324 | Unit level and drain hose high loop. |

Viking also used the 1 Series and 3 Series names on an earlier, discontinued generation, which is not today’s 3 Series. Its 2013 to 2016 manuals, for models such as the Viking dishwasher FDW100 and the VDW302, print no fault-code table.
A Viking FDW302 dishwasher, like the FDW102, FDW103 and FDW301, takes an optional Tuscany panel. On those older panel-ready models, a door that will not stay down needs its spring tension set. That is a job for us.
The DFUD042 Viking dishwasher and the DFUD142 are discontinued Designer undercounter models with flashing fault indications. Switching the main switch off and on clears them. On a blocked drain, Viking says to check the air gap first.
Run the checks above before you book. A Viking dishwasher not working after that is ours to diagnose. Check the recall below first if yours is an older Model 200, 325 or 450.
Out of warranty, Viking dishwasher service is ours. That covers an E:01 that stays, no water with the tap open, and standing water once the hose checks out. A Viking dishwasher not starting with power and the door step right is ours too. So are leaks, poor washing and wet loads that survive Viking’s checks.
I usually ask for the full model number first. A current VDWU has no drain code, while an older VDB325 flashes 1-5 or one Pots/Pans light, by build date. Any older Viking dishwasher, Professional, Designer or Custom Panel, whose code returns after a reset is ours as well.
Our Viking dishwasher repair service covers current and older units. Our technicians are insured, and every paid repair carries our 100-day labor warranty on the work on your invoice. We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts; timing depends on whether the supplier has the part. You decide before any part is ordered.
Book online with the model number ready, and tell us what the display or lights show.
In 2015, CPSC 15-210 widened Viking’s 2012 recall (CPSC 12-147) to certain discontinued Model 200, 325 and 450 units, by model and build date. The connector to the heater can fail or overheat, a fire risk. Stop using a listed unit and contact Viking.
The remedy is a free home repair. Viking’s recall page opens with one model and serial checker, worded for ranges. For these dishwashers, read the serial date or call Viking’s recall line. Current 3, 5 and 7 Series dishwashers are in neither recall.
We do not repair a unit with an open recall; once Viking’s recall repair is done, other faults are ours. Other Viking recalls are summarized on our Viking page.

Viking’s cover starts at retail purchase, or at closing on new construction if that runs longer. For a later owner with no proof of purchase and no registration, the serial’s production date starts the cover.
In years 1 and 2, Viking dishwasher service goes through Viking Customer Care, with the model, serial and purchase date. Viking’s warranty service does that work, and the warranty excludes damage from repairs by anyone else. For a part-only claim, ask Viking how it works. In years 3 to 5, a part off the list below is ours to repair, and so is anything after year 5.
Viking’s Use & Care manuals and spec sheets for these models print a lifetime term on the tank and inner door liner. Its current warranty page and sheet do not. Ask Viking which one applies.
What do I check when my Viking dishwasher won't start?
How to start a Viking dishwasher depends on the series. Today’s 7 Series starts when the door closes. Today’s 3 and 5 Series need Start pressed, then the door closed at once. On the older 200 and 325 Series, three short beeps mean START was not pressed, or the door was not closed within 4 seconds.
How do I reset a Viking dishwasher?
Today’s 3, 5 and 7 Series codes clear by themselves once the cause stops. To cancel a program, open the door and hold Start/Pause/Cancel for 3 seconds. Close the door when 0:01 shows; it drains for 2 minutes, then beeps. On older flash-code models, hold START for 4 seconds.
Does an E01 Viking dishwasher code mean the drain pump failed?
No. On a current 3, 5 or 7 Series, E:01 means too much water came in, or a component is leaking. Viking names no part for it.
Why is my Viking dishwasher leaking from the bottom of the door?
Viking’s current manuals name foam as one cause of water pushed out of the machine. Foam comes from hand-washed dishes with dish soap left on, spilled rinse aid, or an open rinse aid lid. A leak with E:01 showing is the overflow code. Other leaks are ours to trace.
Do you repair the Viking DFUD042 dishwasher?
Yes, it is ours to repair. The DFUD042 and DFUD142 are discontinued Designer undercounter models. We source parts through national supplier networks; for a model this old, timing depends on the supplier.
Is there Viking dishwasher repair near me in the Denver Metro Area?
Yes. Our insured technicians repair current and older Viking dishwashers in your kitchen.
Tell us the full model number and what the display or the lights show. A current VDWU or FDWU shows E:01 or E:02 at most; an older VDB flashes its cycle lights.
