Every gas igniter clicking at once and a glass-top element cycling on HI are both by design, according to Frigidaire’s manuals. We handle Frigidaire cooktop repair on built-in gas and radiant glass stovetops, including the Professional line. Induction cooktops sit outside what we service.
Frigidaire and Frigidaire Professional currently list eight built-in gas and radiant glass cooktops, four of each, in 30-inch and 36-inch widths. All eight are knob-controlled, with no display, so none of them can show an error code. Older Frigidaire cooktops are ours too, and the table lists current models because their guides are the ones quoted here.
The model and serial numbers are on a plate under the cooktop. On gas models Frigidaire’s installation text says the cooktop is not removable and must not be lifted. That plate is read from under the burner box. On radiant models it sits under the cooktop or in the burner box, reached by lifting the main top, and the lifting is ours.
Cooktops sit in our Frigidaire cooking appliances group, beside ranges, ovens, wall ovens and range hoods. The Frigidaire brand page covers the brand’s other appliances.
Match your model code to the table. The list after it shows what belongs elsewhere.
| Model code | What matters at a repair |
|---|---|
| FCCG3027A | The Frigidaire 30″ gas cooktop. Four sealed burners, with the 16,000 BTU Quick Boil burner at the right front. |
| FCCG3627A | The Frigidaire 36″ gas cooktop. Five sealed burners, with the 18,000 BTU PowerPlus burner at the center rear. |
| FFEC3025US, FFEC3025UB | The Frigidaire 30″ electric cooktop. Radiant glass, four elements. Knob direction sets whether the right front dual element heats one ring or two. |
| FFEC3625US, FFEC3625UB | The Frigidaire 36″ electric cooktop. Radiant glass, four elements plus a center rear Keep Warm zone, and the same dual right front element. |
| PCCG3080AS | The Frigidaire Professional 30″ gas cooktop. Five sealed burners, backlit knobs, an 18,000 BTU PowerPlus burner at center front. |
| PCCG3680AS | The Frigidaire Professional 36″ gas cooktop. Five sealed burners, backlit knobs, an 18,000 BTU PowerPlus burner at the center. |
| PCCE3080AF | The Frigidaire Professional 30″ electric cooktop. Radiant glass, backlit knobs, a bridge element on the left and a keep warm zone. |
| PCCE3680AF | The Frigidaire Professional 36″ electric cooktop. Radiant glass and backlit knobs, with the same five positions as the 30-inch model. |
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced recall 23-269 on August 31, 2023. It covers the Frigidaire FFGC3026SS 30″ gas cooktop and the 36-inch FFGC3626SS, but only units with black knob shafts. Those plastic knobs can crack or break in use. The commission calls that a gas leak and fire hazard.
They were sold from March 2016 through April 2022. CPSC’s notices name no current Frigidaire cooktop. For the two recalled models, CPSC and Electrolux Group give these steps:
Installation is the first date that matters. Within 30 days of it, Frigidaire’s support article on a burner that will not light sends you back to your installer. After 30 days, it asks you to contact Frigidaire to schedule service.
The second date is the warranty year. All eight current models carry a one-year limited warranty on parts and labor. Inside that year, take a covered defect to Frigidaire’s warranty service before paying anyone.
The guides word the start of that year two ways. The plain Frigidaire guides count from the original purchase date. The 2024 Professional guides count from the delivery date. Keep the receipt or delivery slip either way.
Past both dates, the repair is ours. Even inside the year, the warranty excludes these:
Frigidaire’s installation check expects each burner to light within four seconds, once air is purged from the supply lines. One knob at LITE sparks every igniter at once. That is by design, and only the burner you set will light.
Every current gas model plugs into a 120-volt outlet for the spark. So when nothing clicks, check the power first. When a Frigidaire cooktop burner will not light, work through the table.
Two safety rules come first. Never light a burner without its cap, which Frigidaire warns can cause burns. If you smell gas, light nothing and call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone.
| Symptom | What Frigidaire says to check | When it is past owner checks |
|---|---|---|
| Every igniter clicks | By design the moment a knob goes to LITE. Only the chosen burner lights. | Not a fault by itself |
| Burner will not light | Turn the knob fully to LITE. With the burner off and cool, clear its ports with a small-gauge wire or needle. | Still unlit after four seconds, checks done |
| No click at all | Check the cord and the breaker or fuse. In an outage, light the burner with a match. | Silent with the power confirmed |
| Professional center burner will not light | The mark on its burner cup points toward the igniter, and the nozzles line up with the cup’s holes. | Still unlit once reassembled |
| Flame uneven | Seat each cap level on its head. If moisture is left after cleaning, fan the flame lightly and let it run until full. | Still uneven once dry and seated |
| Flame orange or too high | Orange: dust in the line, so let it run a few minutes until blue. Too high: the knob setting or an unseated cap. | Frigidaire also lists an incorrect propane conversion |
| Burner goes out on its lowest setting | Not in the owner checklist | Needs the low-setting valve adjustment in the installation instructions |
| New cooktop, no flame | The Professional quick start says the installer may have left the gas supply lever off. | Within 30 days of installation, back to the installer |
A Frigidaire cooktop element that cycles on and off, even on HI, is working as designed. A limiter in each radiant element protects the glass. The plain Frigidaire guide names the causes: cookware too small for the element, or a bottom that is not flat.
If nothing heats, check the breaker or fuse first. These cooktops run on a 240-volt circuit of at least 40 amps. If one element misbehaves, make sure its own knob is on and the pan is flat and of medium or heavy weight.
Five more behaviors look like faults but follow Frigidaire’s design:
The FFEC models have no backlit knobs. Their light stays on after shutoff until the glass cools to a safe temperature.
Unlike the other elements, it does not glow red when hot.
A glow beyond the pan’s edge means the pan is too small for that element.
On the FFEC dual element, clockwise heats both rings. Counterclockwise heats only the inner ring.
On the Professional tops it runs one element plus the bridge, never the single element beside it.
Each knob on the Professional glass tops, the PCCE3080AF and PCCE3680AF, doubles as a heat warning. White means its element is on. After shutoff the knob glows red while the glass can still burn, until it cools to a safe temperature. Every document for these two models agrees.
Each element type on the Professional glass tops has its own knob. The guide warns that a knob on the wrong shaft can damage the knob or shaft. After cleaning, return each knob to its own shaft. Never soak the knobs or put them in the dishwasher.
If the main glass top of a Frigidaire cooktop cracks, the manual’s instruction is short: do not clean or operate it. Spills and cleaning solutions can seep into the break. That creates a risk of electric shock. The manual says to contact a qualified technician immediately, with no exception for hairline cracks.
The manuals also warn that a dropped heavy or hard object may crack the glass. Clean it only with products made for ceramic glass, and never while it is hot. Keep foil and anything that can melt off it.
The printed exclusions never mention glass breakage. So ask Frigidaire’s warranty service about a first-year crack rather than assume either way. No part, glass included, gets a longer term in the printed warranties.
Start with what Frigidaire asks of owners. Run the gas or glass-top checks above, and look at the knob shafts on an FFGC3026SS or FFGC3626SS. Then check the dates: the installer within 30 days, Frigidaire’s warranty service within the first year.
After those checks, the cooktop is ours. On gas cooktops we take burners still unlit after four seconds, silent igniters with power on and flames that die on low. On glass tops we take cracked glass and elements that stay cold or will not shut off. A hot light that stays on over cold glass is ours too.
I have seen a burner blamed on its igniter when the cap had been put back a fraction off center after a clean. Our technicians are insured. Every repair carries our 100-day labor warranty. We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts.
Then book your cooktop repair online. On a gas model, say whether it runs on natural gas or propane.
Denver Metro sits well above the 2,000-foot line that Frigidaire’s gas cooktop installation text singles out. The note is garbled where Frigidaire printed it.
“For operation at 2000 ft. elevations above see level, appliance rating shall be reduced by 4 percent for each additional 1000 ft.”
Frigidaire’s cooktop documents name no altitude kit and no orifice change, so we claim none. What the guides do describe is a good flame: clear, blue and hardly visible in a well-lighted room.
Every current gas model leaves the factory set for natural gas, and the serial plate records that fuel and pressure. The listings put a propane kit in the box. A qualified service technician must do the conversion, following the kit instructions and local codes.
The guides add a cold-weather rule for first use and after a long idle spell. Cold can damage the electronic control. So the cooktop should spend at least 3 hours above 32°F before its power goes on. That matters after a Denver winter night in a truck or garage.
Not the eight current models. They are knob-controlled, with no display, and their manuals list no codes. Describe what the burner, element or light is doing instead.
If a Frigidaire unit in your kitchen shows a code, it is not one of these eight. Send us its model number.
Stop using it. Switch the cooktop off at the breaker, then book a visit with the model number. Keep water off the control area as well: Frigidaire’s Professional guide warns that excess water there may cause damage.
A 2010 CPSC recall covered certain Frigidaire and Electrolux ICON smoothtop cooktops sold from 2005 through 2010. On those, liquid could pool under a knob. The element could then turn on unexpectedly and not turn off. CPSC told owners to cut power at the breaker and ask Electrolux about a free repair kit.
On a gas model, the manual says the burners may be lit by hand. Hold a lit match to the burner head, then slowly turn the knob to LITE. Use caution.
On a radiant glass model, turn the cooktop off. An element left on can start heating again when the power returns.
Only in pairings Frigidaire approves. The listings speak broadly of its wall ovens, but the approval sheet is narrower, and it names all eight current cooktop bases.
The oven itself is covered on our Frigidaire wall oven page.
Bring the model and serial numbers. They are on the plate, or on the page in your guide where you recorded them. Add the fuel, the install date and what the flame, element or knob light is doing.
