A silent fan under working lights can be normal. We take on Frigidaire range hood repair for every under-cabinet, wall canopy and insert hood in the current lineup, including two Frigidaire Professional models. Check one thing first: an over-the-range microwave that vents like a hood is still a microwave, and we do not service those.
Some Frigidaire listings say its over-the-range microwaves double as a hood, and their records list fan speeds, cooktop lighting and grease filters. That is why an owner may call one a hood. The catalog still files each one as a microwave, and we do not service them.
The model plate settles which appliance it is. Read it before you book: it is usually on the left side of the hood, inside behind the grease filters or by the filter. Frigidaire also shares one prefix across two products. Every current hood in the FHWC family starts FHWC3, while the window air conditioners start FHWC0 or FHWC1.
Older Frigidaire hoods are ours as well, and the table lists current codes because their guides are the ones quoted here.
Frigidaire Gallery sells no range hood today, and Gallery’s over-the-range microwaves sit outside what we service. Gallery appliances have their own Frigidaire Gallery page. For the rest of the kitchen, start from our Frigidaire brand page.

On the four LED canopy hoods, Frigidaire’s guides are blunt: the power button does not turn on the blower. A speed button starts it instead. Press 1, 2 or 3, and the power button then switches the fan off.
So on the FHWC3070L, FHWC3670L, FHWC3075L and FHWC3675L, a fan that ignores the power button is working as designed. The other families start in their own ways.
On the FCVW3062A, FCVW3662A, FCVW3052A and FCVW3652A, a red S light comes on after 40 hours of use. Frigidaire ties it to one or both jobs: replace the charcoal filter and clean the grease filters. Hold the fan button 3 seconds to reset it.
None of Frigidaire’s current hood guides lists an error code or a test mode. Indicator lights like these are the only coded signals, and only the red one asks for action.
Clean the aluminum grease filters, replace the charcoal filters, then hold the fan button for 3 seconds.
Fan speed and light level. Three-speed models run to F3 and L3, and two-speed models stop at F2 and L2.
Frigidaire lists a failed motor, but never alone. On the FCVW hoods, the FHWC3040M and the FHWC3625M, a thermal protection system shuts down a motor that runs too hot. Frigidaire says the motor works properly again once that system cools.
Those guides also check the Molex motor connector. On the LED canopy hoods and the UCVH2001A insert, the first check is a fan that is jammed or scraping the bottom. Only after that does Frigidaire say the motor may be defective or seized.
| Symptom | What you can check | What goes to a technician |
|---|---|---|
| Nothing works | A tripped breaker or blown fuse, and power at the junction box | Loose wiring at the switches or between the switch board and the control board |
| Lights work, fan does not | On the FCVW hoods, the FHWC3040M and the FHWC3625M, let a hot motor cool. On an LED canopy hood, press a speed button | A motor wire off its connector, a jammed fan, a seized or damaged motor |
| Fan works, lights do not | A loose bulb, or a bulb you know works | The light assembly, loose light switch wires, or the FCVW LED strip |
| Vibration or rattle | A loose grease filter or vent grille, and a filter retainer that still works | A loose motor, a damaged blower wheel or fan blade, or a hood not secured |
| Weak draw | Dirty grease filters, high speed for heavy cooking, windows and doors closed | Mounting height, a blocked or undersized duct, a damper that does not open |
In its under-cabinet guides, Frigidaire lists a hood hanging too high and wind from open windows or doors before any part. Gas below the hood changes the height rule on some families. The table gives each guide’s minimums.
On the Professional models Frigidaire also suggests 30 inches as a maximum, whichever fuel is below. We work to the installation figures in the table.
Where a Frigidaire hood vent runs through the wrong duct size, Frigidaire’s fix is to change the ducting. Every guide calls for metal duct. The FCVW3025A, FCVW3052A and FCVW3652A take 7-inch round duct only.
The Professional models use 3¼ by 10 inch rectangular duct. The canopies and insert use 6-inch round. For Denver Metro winters, most under-cabinet guides and the insert guide call for an extra back draft damper and a thermal break.
The cooktop or range below sets the height rule. If its burners are the fault, our Frigidaire range page or Frigidaire cooktop page picks up the job.
| Hood | Over electric | Over gas |
|---|---|---|
| Professional FHWC3050R, FHWC3650R | 24 inches | 27 inches |
| FCVW models, FHWC3040M, FHWC3625M | 24 inches | 30 inches |
| LED canopy hoods | 26 inches | 26 inches |
| Halogen canopy hoods | 26 to 32 inches recommended over a 36-inch-high cooktop | The same recommendation |
| UCVH2001A insert | 30 inches, as its troubleshooting page states | The gas appliance’s own instructions apply |
Frigidaire lets owners change most lamps, with one firm exception. On the FCVW3062A, FCVW3662A, FCVW3052A and FCVW3652A, the strip LED is replaceable by a service technician only. The guide says so in those words.
Frigidaire’s grease filters are aluminum, and its guides say to wash them; none gives a replacement schedule. Use hot water with a mild detergent, or the dishwasher’s top rack. The under-cabinet guides warn that ammonia corrodes and darkens the aluminum.
The interval depends on the family. The four halogen canopy hoods want the filter cleaned monthly, to prevent the risk of fire. The LED canopies and the UCVH2001A say every two months, or sooner with heavy use.
Most Frigidaire hoods set to recirculate need charcoal filters, and those cannot be washed. The FCVW3062A, FCVW3662A, FCVW3052A and FCVW3652A guides say to replace them after each S alarm or 6 months of use. The FCVW3025A guide has no alarm and says up to 6 months. The LED canopy guides say about every 3 months.
One small part decides how several hoods breathe. On the FCVW hoods, the FHWC3040M and the FHWC3625M, the recirculating vent cover stays on for roof or wall venting. It comes off only for recirculation. Take it off a ducted hood and, Frigidaire warns, the unit will not perform properly.
To vent an FCVW3025A outdoors, Frigidaire says to remove the charcoal layer stapled inside its filter. The Professional hoods need kit FHWRKT30RS or FHWRKT36RS to recirculate, and the halogen canopies FHWRKT55LS or FHWRKT60LS.
Frigidaire marks only two current hoods ADA compliant: the FCVW3025A and the FHWC3625M. Its ADA sheet wires them to a wall switch mounted 15 to 40 inches above the floor. Nobody should reach over the cooktop to use it.
The sheet is plain about the result. The switch runs the motor and the light together, and they cannot be operated independently. A hood whose light and fan start together from that wall switch is wired as Frigidaire’s sheet intends.
Every current Frigidaire and Frigidaire Professional hood lists one year of parts and labor coverage. Inside that year, the repair belongs to Frigidaire’s warranty service. After it, the work is ours.
The written warranty excludes service calls for light bulbs, air filters and other consumables. Calls to correct an installation are excluded too. It does not pay to remove trim or cabinets to reach the unit. That matters for the UCVH2001A inside a custom hood.
The text names light bulbs and says nothing about LED strips. Before paying for a failed FCVW strip inside the year, ask Frigidaire’s warranty service whether it counts. Several guides say improper maintenance ends it.
Start with Frigidaire’s own checks. Look for a tripped breaker or a blown fuse. On an LED canopy hood, press a speed button rather than power.
Wash and reseat the grease filters, and hold the fan button to clear a red S. Confirm the recirculation cover matches how the hood vents. On an FCVW hood, the FHWC3040M or the FHWC3625M, give a motor that shut itself off time to cool.
Past those checks, the work is ours. I usually test the motor wire at its connector before anyone talks about a new motor, because Frigidaire’s own table lists it. Motors, blower wheels, fan blades, switch wiring and the FCVW LED strip are technician work.
Every technician we send is insured. We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts, and we fit OEM parts when the supplier has the right one.
Some plates show an over-the-range microwave. We do not service those. If the fault sits in the range or cooktop below, our Frigidaire cooking appliances section routes you there, alongside ovens and wall ovens. Otherwise, book a repair online with the model number and tell us what the lights and fan are doing.
No. We do not service over-the-range microwaves from any maker, even though some Frigidaire listings say its models double as a hood. Frigidaire, Gallery and Professional all sell them, under codes such as FMOS1846B, GMOS1962A and PMOS1980A.
On the FCVW hoods, the FHWC3040M and the FHWC3625M, thermal protection stops a motor that runs too hot. It works again once it cools.
A fan that starts on its own is a different story. Frigidaire describes that on its over-the-range microwaves, and we do not service those.
It depends on the guide. The halogen canopy hoods say monthly, and the LED canopies and the UCVH2001A say every two months. On the FCVW3062A, FCVW3662A, FCVW3052A and FCVW3652A, the red S light is the reminder. Charcoal filters are replaced, never washed.
Usually on the left side of the hood, inside behind the grease filters or by the filter. On the Professional models, hinge the vent grille down first.
Frigidaire lists the 30-inch FCVW3025A overhead range hood in three color codes, FCVW3025AB, FCVW3025AS and FCVW3025AW. Read the whole code off the plate.
CPSC’s recall listings carry no hood recall for any Frigidaire line, Professional and Gallery included. Frigidaire’s own recall lookup is the second place to check your model number.
Not in its current catalog, which lists under-cabinet, wall canopy and insert hoods only. A hood that hangs over an island, or pulls down out of the counter, is not something Frigidaire sells today.
Book with the model number from the plate on the left side of the hood. It tells our technician which Frigidaire controls and guide apply.
