LG Builds Three Cooktop Families and We Service Two

LG cooktop repair splits before a technician is dispatched, because LG builds gas, radiant and induction cooktops into the same countertop cutout. We take the gas and the electric radiant work in Denver Metro homes. Induction is the one family we turn down, and this page says so before you book.

The Third Letter of Your LG Model Number Decides Whether We Take the Job

LG prints the model number on a label under the cooktop. Read it before you call, because the letters do more work than the symptom does.

Every current LG built-in cooktop we verified opens with the letters CB. Across that line-up the third character tracks the fuel: G for gas, E for electric radiant, I for induction. LG publishes no key to its own model numbers, so treat this as a pattern rather than a rule.

The width digits are less reliable than the fuel letter. LG’s own comparison table calls CBGJ3023S a 36 inch cooktop and CBGJ3027S a 30 inch, which reverses the reading those digits suggest.

LG’s control row says the same thing twice. On the gas CBGJ3627S it reads Front, Weighted Knobs. On the radiant CBEW3017BE it reads LED Display with Backlit Touch Controls. Our other LG work sits on the LG appliance repair hub.

LG Induction Cooktops Are the One Family We Do Not Service

If your model number reads CBI, here is the answer in one line. We do not take LG induction work, and you will not be quoted for it. The refusal is about what LG built, not about what we are willing to learn.

LG’s own spec sheets put the two machines on different ground. The radiant CBEW3017BE carries a hot surface LED indicator and a warm function, and its power row reads Steady Heat. The induction CBIH3017BE carries neither, and adds auto pan detection and auto shut off instead.

LG describes induction as focusing heat toward the bottom of the cookware only. A radiant fault is a heating element fault. An induction fault sits in the inverter and the coil, a different repair with a different parts chain.

Model numbers LG lists as induction include CBIH3017BE, CBIH3617BE, CBIH3013BE and CBIH3613BE, plus the CBIU and CBIS prefixes.

UltraHeat Is a Badge on Your LG, Not a Power Rating

UltraHeat is LG’s name for the strongest burner or element on the cooktop. It is a badge and not a number, and the number behind it moves from model to model. Two LG cooktops can both wear it and differ by a third of their output.

Width does not predict the rating either. CBEW3617BE and CBEW3613BE are both 36 inch cooktops, and LG rates their UltraHeat element at 3.6kW and 3.0kW. Older LG gas marketing used a second badge, SuperBoil, on a 17,000 BTU burner.

An owner who says the big burner has gone weak is measuring it against a number LG never printed.

Your LG Cooktop Counts Lit Segments Instead of Showing an F Code

LG’s error code page for cooking appliances offers three tabs: Electric Range, Radiant Cooktop and Gas Range. The F codes that fill every appliance blog sit under the two range tabs. The Radiant Cooktop tab holds a separate set of six, published as pictures rather than as letters and digits.

Each picture shows an element control marked ON, DUAL, OFF and WARM, with an arc of indicator segments around it. The number of lit segments is the code.

LG’s follow up is the same for the first five. If the indication returns, switch the breaker off, wait 30 seconds, then switch it back on. The sixth is the only one LG hands to an electrician rather than to a repair company.

The three entries below belong to LG’s range tabs, not the cooktop tab. Owners find them first and read them as cooktop faults. LG says plainly that none is an error.

LG is inconsistent on two of them. Its headings read H5 and 5b while its body text reads HS and Sb.

There is also nothing to put a radiant cooktop into. LG’s Pro Builder spec sheets for CBEW3017BE and CBEW3617BE both print SmartDiagnosis as No, while listing ThinQ UP and Wi-Fi as yes. Those two models offer ThinQ Care instead, which pushes alerts from LG’s cloud rather than opening a service mode at the countertop.

LG Rates Every Gas Burner Twice, and the Second Column Is Propane

LG publishes no code list for its gas cooktops at all. There is no Gas Cooktop tab on LG’s error page, which fits the machine. The gas platform is knob controlled, with no display to put a code on.

So a gas fault gets read from the flame. LG’s own two symptom names are burners do not light, and uneven burner flames. The CBGJ3627S sheet lists five sealed burners, cast iron continuous grates and auto reignition, and each changes what a technician checks first.

That same sheet rates every burner twice, for natural gas and for propane.

LG ships an LP conversion kit in the box, alongside a cast iron griddle plate. A cooktop moved to propane, or converted and never rechecked, presents as a burner that will not hold a low flame. That reads exactly like a failed valve, and often it is not one.

The centre burner shows it first. LG rates it at 22,000 BTU on natural gas and at 650 BTU on simmer, on the same dual stacked burner. The simmer end fails long before the burner does.

Black Ceramic Glass, Bridge Elements and What LG Calls the Eyes

LG’s radiant cooktops sit under black ceramic glass, 3/16 of an inch thick, about 4 mm on LG’s own sheet. That sheet calls it Black Ceramic Glass with a grey pattern, never Schott Ceran.

LG’s support article for dead elements is titled Cook Top Burners or Eyes Not Working. Eyes is LG’s own word for the radiant elements, and it is what you meet on LG’s site.

Element counts are not uniform. CBEW3017BE lists five elements plus a bridge element, CBEW3013BE lists four with one dual element, and CBEW3617BE lists five with one dual and one triple. LG rates that triple centre element at 3,600W, 2,400W and 1,200W across its rings.

LG glass top stove replacement and element replacement

A cracked ceramic surface is service work rather than a parts purchase. The glass carries the touch control board, and the elements mount underneath it. Replacing it means lifting the unit out of the countertop, transferring the elements and reseating the assembly.

The circuit under the counter differs by fuel. LG asks for 15 amps at 120 volts on the gas CBGJ3627S, which ships with a three prong cord attached. The radiant CBEW3017BE asks for 40 amps at 240 or 208 volts. The 36 inch CBEW3617BE asks for 50 amps, and neither radiant model includes a cord.

When to Call Wilson & Myers

Two things are worth checking yourself first, because neither needs a technician.

If the indication shows four lit segments, LG’s own instruction is to clean the glass and clear anything resting on the touch pads. A wet cloth left across the controls produces it, and that is a cleaning job. If the cooktop is dead altogether, check the breaker before you book, because LG’s sixth indication is low voltage.

Past those two, the work is ours. Thermistor and element faults on the radiant platform are ours, and so is glass replacement. Ignition, valve, regulator and propane conversion faults on the gas platform are ours.

LG’s base term on a mainline cooktop is one year on parts and labour, and LG STUDIO carries two. LG’s product pages add one further year on either, through December 31, 2026. That extra year is conditional on the owner downloading the ThinQ app and connecting the cooktop to Wi-Fi.
