Our Electrolux cooktop repair covers the three gas models Electrolux sells today: two drop-in cooktops and a rangetop. Induction cooktops sit outside what we service. Clicking at every burner when you light one is normal on all three.
Width and burner count sort the three without a plate. The Electrolux 5 burner gas cooktop comes as the 30-inch ECCG3068A and the 36-inch ECCG3668A, and both drop into a countertop cutout. What owners call an Electrolux 6 burner gas cooktop is the ECCG3672A rangetop, which lights its burners differently from the two cooktops.
Electrolux’s two induction cooktops, the ECCI3068A and ECCI3668A, are ones we do not take. Electrolux Professional commercial cooktops are not covered here. Frigidaire-badged cooktops go to our Frigidaire cooktop page.
The cooktops carry their serial plate on the underside, under the burner box. The rangetop’s plate sits at the bottom of the unit, toward the rear. Out of reach? Give us the width and burner count.
Our Electrolux cooking appliances section groups these with the freestanding ranges, wall ovens, range hoods and the built-in microwave. Each has its own page. A wall oven below the cooktop is on our Electrolux wall oven page.
| Model | Type and width | Burners | Ignition |
|---|---|---|---|
| ECCG3068A | Drop-in gas cooktop, 30-inch | Five sealed, with a brass power burner in the center | Every igniter sparks together; no thermocouple step in the guide |
| ECCG3668A | Drop-in gas cooktop, 36-inch | The same five burners as the 30-inch | The same as the 30-inch |
| ECCG3672A | Gas rangetop, 36-inch | Six sealed burners, all dual-flame, laid out as on the 36-inch ranges | A thermocouple on every burner |
Check for two older models before any repair question. The Electrolux ICON E30EC65ESS cooktop and its sister E36EC65ESS are under CPSC recall 11-016, for serials NF501XXXXX through NF045XXXXX. Both are radiant electric smoothtops sold January 2005 through August 2010, with the serial plate on the underside. CPSC’s notice for recall 11-016 lists the serial range; if you cannot rule your cooktop out, stop using it, as CPSC instructs for recalled units.
The hazard sits under the knobs. CPSC says liquid can pool under a control knob on these cooktops and turn an element on unexpectedly. It can then heat to temperatures other than expected and not turn off, a fire and burn risk. On these models, an Electrolux cooktop element that switches itself on is the recall hazard, not a fault to dry out and retry.
CPSC’s note of March 14, 2023 says the remedy is no longer available. Its instruction is to stop using the cooktop, discard it, and not donate or resell it. We do not repair a recalled unit. No recall names the current ECCG3068A, ECCG3668A or ECCG3672A.
| Models | Serial range | CPSC instruction today |
|---|---|---|
| E30EC65ESS and E36EC65ESS | NF501XXXXX through NF045XXXXX | Remedy no longer available: do not use, discard, do not donate or resell |
On the two cooktops, turning one knob to LITE sparks every igniter at once, and only the burner you chose lights. Push in the knob, turn it counterclockwise out of OFF, then release it and rotate it to LITE. Then check for a steady flame. Their guide and installation sheet name no thermocouple and no hold-in step.
The ECCG3672A rangetop lights like the 36-inch ranges, with its own igniter and thermocouple at every burner. After lighting, keep the knob pressed in 3 to 5 seconds so the thermocouple heats. Our Electrolux range page covers the rest of that routine, including the wait of at least 5 minutes after a blow-out.
The rangetop’s knobs are backlit, and its guide says they light whenever a knob leaves OFF. Electrolux’s product listing says once the burner is lit, so go by the flame, not the glow.
| Question | ECCG3068A and ECCG3668A cooktops | ECCG3672A rangetop |
|---|---|---|
| Burner dies when the knob is released | The guide gives no hold-in step | The thermocouple is not hot yet: hold the knob in longer |
| Knob light | Product listing only: on once the burner is lit | Guide: on whenever the knob leaves OFF |
Electrolux describes a good flame as clear, blue and hardly visible in a well-lighted room, each cone steady and sharp. Two Electrolux gas cooktop problems break that rule: a flame that burns too high and one that turns orange. Both can trace back to the fuel setup.
The serial plate under the burner box helps here. Electrolux says it records the burner ratings, fuel type and pressure the cooktop was set for when it left the factory. The cooktops ship set for natural gas, and an incorrect LP conversion is on Electrolux’s list for both flames. If your home runs on propane, the plate and the conversion come before any part.
Electrolux’s installation sheet for the two cooktops carries a warning that matters after new counters, a move or a reconnection. After connecting the gas, the valve alignment must be checked to be sure the manifold pipe has not moved. A misaligned valve stem can rub on the control panel. That can mean a gas leak at the valve.
So a knob that binds or scrapes after countertop work is not a do-it-yourself fix. Stop using that cooktop and book a visit. If you smell gas, Electrolux says not to try to light any appliance, touch any electrical switch or use any phone in your building. Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone.
On an older ICON radiant cooktop, start with recall 11-016 above. The list below holds only steps from Electrolux’s guides for the three current models. A cooktop installed within the past 30 days goes back to its installer first, Electrolux’s owner library says, when a burner will not light.
Electrolux cooktop problems past those checks are ours. Electrolux’s guides say any repair they do not describe belongs to a qualified technician. That covers igniters and electrodes, rangetop thermocouples, valves and their low-flame setting, LP conversions and any knob that binds after installation work.
I have seen a clicking burner light again once its head and cap were reseated. So those, and the ports, get checked before any part is replaced. Our technicians are insured.
We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. We fit OEM parts when the supplier has the right one.
A covered defect goes through Electrolux’s warranty service while any Electrolux coverage runs. After that, book your repair online and include the model number, or the width and burner count.
The altitude text differs by model. Above 2,000 feet, the cooktops’ installation sheet reduces the appliance rating 4 percent per additional 1,000 feet, and says no more. The rangetop’s instructions give the same reduction and a 10,000-foot limit for safe operation.
All three leave the factory set for natural gas, with an LP kit in the box. Leak checks use a liquid detector or soapy water, never a flame.
Hood airflow matters too. Electrolux rules out a hood that blows air down onto the burners, unless the two were tested and listed together. For an Electrolux hood, see our Electrolux range hood page.
| Topic | ECCG3068A and ECCG3668A | ECCG3672A rangetop |
|---|---|---|
| Altitude | Rating reduced 4 percent per 1,000 feet over 2,000 feet | The same, plus a 10,000-foot limit for safe operation |
| Power | 120 volts on a 15-amp breaker or time-delay fuse; no extension cord | A factory-connected cord to a grounded 125-volt, 10-amp outlet |
| LP conversion | A qualified service technician, following the kit instructions | A qualified technician or installer |
The cooktop guide and the rangetop guide print the same term: one year from the original purchase date. Electrolux pays for repairing or replacing parts that prove defective in materials or workmanship, on a unit installed, used and maintained as its guide says.
Registering within 60 days of purchase adds a year on replacement parts, Electrolux’s product listings say. Neither guide mentions it. While any Electrolux coverage runs, a covered defect goes through Electrolux’s warranty service; outside it, the repair is ours.
Calls to correct the installation or to instruct you how to use the cooktop are excluded.
Making the cooktop accessible for servicing, such as removing trim, cupboards or shelves, is at the owner’s expense.
Service calls to repair or replace knobs, handles, light bulbs, water or air filters, other consumables or cosmetic parts are excluded.
A unit is excluded if its original serial number has been removed or altered, or cannot be read.
Why does every Electrolux cooktop burner click when I turn one knob?
Because all the igniters spark together on every current Electrolux gas model. On the two cooktops, only the burner you chose lights. Both guides describe this.
If no burner lights, check the knob position, the gas supply valve, the cord and the breaker. On a cooktop, also check the seat of the burner head and cap.
Does the 36-inch Electrolux gas cooktop have more burners than the 30-inch?
No. The spec sheet for the Electrolux 36″ gas cooktop ECCG3668AS lists the same five burners and ratings as the 30-inch model. The six-burner Electrolux is the ECCG3672A rangetop.
Can I convert my Electrolux cooktop to propane myself?
Electrolux says no. The kit comes in the box, but the cooktop instructions say a qualified service technician must do the conversion, following the kit. For the rangetop, it is a qualified technician or installer.
An incorrect conversion is on Electrolux’s list of causes for a high or orange flame.
What if my Electrolux cooktop has no power?
The burners still work, lit by hand. On the cooktops, Electrolux says to light a burner by holding a lit match to its head, then slowly turning the knob to LITE. Once it lights, push in and turn the knob to the flame you want.
When the power is back and the spark stays silent, check the cord and the 15-amp breaker.
Do you repair older Electrolux cooktops?
Yes, including the EW36GC55 gas and EI30EC45 electric series, but never a unit under recall 11-016.
Do you repair Electrolux cooktops in the home?
Yes. We work on the cooktop where it is installed, anywhere in the Denver Metro Area. Send the model number, or the width and burner count, when you book.
For your other Electrolux appliances, start at our Electrolux page.
Tell us the model number, or the width and burner count. The ECCG cooktops and the ECCG3672A rangetop light their burners differently.
