Electrolux sells one freezer today: the EI33AF80W single-door column. Our Electrolux freezer repair follows its guide, which says the appliance is designed to be repaired in the home. Read the control panel before you judge the hum, because this compressor is meant to run almost all the time.
Electrolux lists this freezer as the EI33AF80W, or EI33AF80WS in stainless steel. The guide shows the serial plate on a drawing on page 2. Leave that plate in place. The warranty excludes a unit whose serial number was removed, altered or cannot be read.
Electrolux sells no chest or upright freezer today. For one of those from another maker, our freezer repair page is the place to start. Electrolux Professional commercial freezers are not covered here. A column badged Frigidaire Professional shares this freezer’s kit sheets, and our Frigidaire freezer page covers it.
Our Electrolux kitchen appliances section lists it beside the refrigerators, ice makers, wine storage units and dishwashers.
| Setup | What Electrolux specifies | Why it matters for a repair |
|---|---|---|
| Stand-alone | A dedicated 115 volt, 15 amp outlet and a level cabinet | No rollers: it moves on a slider, with the anti-tip bracket raised |
| Trim kit | Single or dual trim, with the top trim screwed to the cabinets | The warranty does not pay to remove trim that did not ship with the unit |
| Beside the EI33AR80W refrigerator | The TWINSPAIRKIT pairing kit, two outlets on separate dedicated circuits, and no partition between the units | Two heater pads between the cabinets, powered by a plug-in adapter |
Electrolux publishes no numeric error codes for this freezer. The control sits in the cabinet below the upper drawer and shows indicator lights and a few messages instead. After 10 seconds without a touch, every icon fades except the settings icon, so a dim panel is normal.
Electrolux ICON freezer problems on the discontinued E32AF85PQS built-in show as codes: E7 is a stuck key, E8 or E9 a temperature sensor fault. Its ice maker switches on by lowering the wire signal arm or, on a rear-mounted unit, setting its power switch to I.
| Shown | What Electrolux says it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| DOOR OPEN and a beep | The door has been open 5 minutes or more, and the interior light goes off | Close the door, or press DOOR OPEN |
| POWER OUTAGE | Power was cut, and the temperature may have left the safe range | Check the food, then press POWER OUTAGE |
| HIGH TEMP, a red light and an alarm | The cabinet rose above a safe range; the guide prints no threshold | Press HIGH TEMP, check the level and door seal, and keep the door shut |
| HIGH TEMP in Sabbath Mode | Outside the safe zone for 20 minutes; the alarm stops after 10 minutes, and the icon stays lit | Exit Sabbath Mode |
| AIR FILTER | The six-month filter reminder | Replace the filter, then hold AIR FILTER |
| Lock icon | The control is locked | Hold the lock icon for 3 seconds |
| Sb | Sabbath Mode: lights, display and ice making stop, even after a power cut | Hold the minus key and TEMP F/C for 5 seconds |
| DEMO | Demo mode, in which Electrolux says cooling has stopped | Hold the minus key and ICE MAKER for 10 seconds |
Electrolux designs the variable speed compressor in the EI33AF80W to run 100% of the time, except during defrost. After a defrost cycle it runs faster for a while. The guide calls a compressor you can hear in a quiet room normal. Constant running is the design working.
Soft food or a red light changes that. An Electrolux freezer not cooling while DEMO shows is in demo mode, where Electrolux says cooling stops. Hold the minus key and ICE MAKER for 10 seconds to leave it.
An Electrolux freezer not freezing may simply be new. Electrolux asks for at least 8 hours with the door closed before you load food. After it has been disconnected, allow up to 24 hours to cool completely.
Electrolux’s guide lists frost causes that involve no failed part. An unlevel cabinet can misalign the door so it does not seal. Food stacked to the top can build ice. Humid weather raises the frost rate too, and Electrolux calls that normal.
After the doors come off for moving, Electrolux wants an even 9 mm gap around the cabinet, so the gasket seals and frost stays out. It measures metal to metal. Worn, cracked or poorly fitting gaskets should be replaced, the guide says.
An Electrolux freezer leaking water has one documented water line: the ice maker supply at the right bottom rear, where a leak check starts.
The pairing kit’s two 12 volt heater pads run from an adapter plugged into an outlet. The adapter’s green LED should be lit. You cannot feel the pads warm, Electrolux notes, so touch proves nothing.
If the freezer door sits lower than the refrigerator door, Electrolux raises it with a 19 mm socket, turning the adjustment screw counterclockwise.
The freezer’s ice maker and its filtered ice kit are on our Electrolux ice maker page. The other cabinet is on our Electrolux refrigerator page.
An Electrolux freezer not working at all starts at the outlet, not the compressor. Every step below comes from Electrolux’s documents for this model.
Past those checks, the work is ours. The sealed system is where an owner stops: the guide marks this R-600A refrigerant as flammable and reserves repairs for trained service personnel. Our EPA-608 certified technicians do that work.
Smaller jobs go to a technician too. The cabinet light is an LED, and the guide sends a dead one to a technician. A damaged power cord is the same, and we replace gaskets that no longer seal.
In my experience, order saves time on this freezer: panel state first, then level and door gap, then the sealed system. A demo-mode call never needs a compressor.
While Electrolux coverage runs, a covered defect goes to Electrolux’s warranty service. Otherwise, we source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts, and fit OEM parts when the supplier has the right one. Tell us the model and what the panel shows, then book your Electrolux freezer visit.
Electrolux lists an enclosed garage and a basement among this freezer’s intended places. The limit is the room temperature. Electrolux sets it at 0°F to 110°F; outside that range, the compressor cannot hold proper temperatures. The guide says nothing about altitude, so there is no high-altitude setting to look for.
That range is the freezer’s own. A paired installation follows the column refrigerator’s narrower range, printed in its guide and on our Electrolux refrigerator page.
In a garage, check the outlet first. Electrolux says to avoid a GFI circuit, and its troubleshooting lists a tripped GFI when the freezer is not running. Keep the ice maker’s water line out of any space that drops below freezing.
The guide counts this term from the date of delivery, so keep the delivery paperwork. While any Electrolux coverage runs, a covered defect goes through Electrolux’s warranty service; outside it, the repair is ours. The guide excludes damage from service companies outside Electrolux’s network, from non-genuine parts, or from parts bought outside that network.
Electrolux will repair or replace parts defective in materials or workmanship, when the freezer is installed, used and maintained as the guide says. Its listing includes labor for both years.
Parts in the cabinet liner and sealed system: compressor, condenser, evaporator, dryer and tubing. The guide does not mention labor.
Food loss, commercial use, a unit transferred from its first owner, installation corrections, and service calls for light bulbs or air and water filters.
The warranty does not pay to remove trim that did not ship with the unit, and it excludes compressor damage from insufficient power.
What does the red light on an Electrolux freestanding freezer mean?
On the EI33AF80W, the red light is HIGH TEMP: the cabinet has risen above a safe temperature range, and an alarm sounds with it. Its meaning is a warning, not a diagnosis.
Press HIGH TEMP to reset it. Electrolux then suggests checking that the freezer is level and the door seals, and keeping the door shut while it recovers. If the light returns with the door shut and the cabinet level, book a visit.
Is it normal for an Electrolux freezer to pop or gurgle?
Yes. Electrolux’s guide calls popping or cracking when the compressor starts normal: metal parts expand and contract. Bubbling or gurgling is refrigerant circulating, and that is normal too.
Vibrating or rattling is different. Electrolux points to the cabinet: level it, shim a weak floor, or move it off the wall.
Why does my Electrolux freezer smell?
Electrolux’s guide gives two fixes: clean the inside with a baking soda solution, and replace the air filter. The filter sits behind a stainless plate at the upper rear of the cabinet, and the reminder comes every six months.
Is the Electrolux column freezer part of the ice maker recall?
No. CPSC lists no recall naming the EI33AF80W.
Recall 22-143 covers ERMC2295AS refrigerator units in one serial range, for a choking hazard; our Electrolux ice maker page says what to do.
Tell us the model number and what the control panel shows. DEMO, Sb and a red HIGH TEMP light each point to a different fix.
