Before any Electrolux ice maker repair, check one thing. A four-door ERMC2295AS with a serial from 1K91272383 to 1K21374610 is under a safety recall for a choking hazard. Stop using its ice maker now and read the next section. Every current Electrolux ice maker sits inside a French door refrigerator or the column freezer, and each one has its own switch.
CPSC announced recall 22-143 on June 2, 2022. It covers ERMC2295AS units in one serial range, the only Electrolux model named beside 13 Frigidaire models. The ice level detector arm in its ice maker can break into pieces and fall into the ice bucket. That is a choking hazard.
CPSC’s instruction is plain. Stop using the ice maker immediately and empty the ice bucket. Then contact Electrolux to schedule a technician, who replaces the ice maker free with one that has a polypropylene ice level detector.
That remedy belongs to Electrolux, whatever the warranty status. We do not repair a recalled ice maker, and we will point you to Electrolux’s recall route instead. Units outside the serial range are not in the recall, and the ERMC2295A is still a current model.
Recall 24-110 covers Frigidaire side-by-side models only.
| Item | What CPSC published |
|---|---|
| Model | Electrolux French door ERMC2295AS |
| Serial range | 1K91272383 to 1K21374610 |
| Label location | Right panel inside the refrigerator compartment |
| Sold | April 2020 through March 2022 |
| Hazard | The ice level detector arm can break into pieces and fall into the ice bucket, a choking hazard |
| Remedy | Stop using the ice maker, empty the bucket, and have Electrolux replace the ice maker |
Electrolux lists two ice makers for the ERFC2393A: one in the fresh food compartment, one in the freezer. The ERMC2295A has the same pair, though its freezer ice maker comes on select models only. The ERFG2393A has one, in the freezer, and no ice dispenser. The column refrigerator EI33AR80W has none; in a kit-plumbed pair it supplies the column freezer’s water.
The rates below are each guide’s own, per 24 hours. Ignore the claim of up to 9 pounds a day in Electrolux’s product-page FAQ. Every current guide rates each ice maker lower, and 9 pounds is roughly what the ERFC2393A and ERFG2393A freezer bins hold.
Our Electrolux kitchen appliances section groups ice makers with the Electrolux refrigerators, the Electrolux column freezer, the wine cooler and the dishwasher. A Frigidaire badge goes to our Frigidaire ice maker page. We also take Electrolux ICON ice maker problems on one discontinued machine, the 15-inch under-counter E15IM60GSS or E15IM60GPS, whose dimpled cubes are normal.
| Model | Ice makers | On and off | Rated output per 24 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| ERFC2393A | Fresh food ice maker for the dispenser, plus a freezer ice maker | Display key held 3 seconds; the freezer unit has its own power button | 2.7 to 3.2 lb fresh food; 2 to 2.5 lb freezer |
| ERFG2393A | One freezer ice maker, no ice dispenser | Power button on the ice maker; its guide’s troubleshooting page still mentions a display key, but the display has none | 2 to 2.5 lb |
| ERMC2295A | Fresh food ice maker, plus a freezer ice maker on select models | Display key held 3 seconds; the freezer unit’s button lights when on | 2.0 to 2.5 lb each |
| EI33AF80W column freezer | One glide-out ice maker with two bins | ICE MAKER key held 3 seconds on the freezer display | About 4.5 lb |
An Electrolux fridge ice maker not working may simply be switched off at one of its two switches. On the ERFC2393A and ERMC2295A, the display controls only the fresh food ice maker. The freezer ice maker has its own button on the unit. Turning one off leaves the other running, so check both.
Electrolux ice maker troubleshooting also means knowing the signals that look like faults and are not.
Only the ERFC2393A and ERMC2295A dispense ice through the door. Both stop for reasons their guides treat as owner fixes. Hold the paddle too long and the dispenser motor overheats; its overload protector resets in about three minutes. The doors also have to be fully closed.
On the ERFC2393A, an alarm with CUBE or CRUSH blinking means a cube is holding the chute flapper open. Remove the cube and the alarm resets. Electrolux’s owner library calls the same jam DI SP, but no current Electrolux guide prints those letters.
A bin of fused cubes jams the auger. The guides blame infrequent use, temperature swings and power outages, and they ask you to use ice at least twice a week. Their fix runs in this order.
Electrolux refrigerator not making ice but water works? Then the house supply is on, so Electrolux refrigerator ice maker troubleshooting starts at the ice maker’s own switch, then its arm. An item, or a bin out of position, can hold up the bail or signal arm and stop production. Push the bin all the way back.
For the freezer ice maker, the setting matters. The ERFC2393A and ERFG2393A guides say it reaches its rated output only at 0°F. All three French door guides list a freezer set too warm as a cause of low ice. On the ERFG2393A and ERMC2295A, FREEZE BOOST raises the freezer ice maker’s output for a while.
Supply faults come next. The line may be kinked, the valve closed, or the filter unseated or clogged. A clogged filter also shrinks cubes and leaves them hollow, because the ice maker gets less water each cycle. Small cubes now and then are normal.
An Electrolux fridge not making ice after all of that needs a technician. Electrolux names no ice maker part as the fix for any symptom, and neither do we before testing.
The EI33AF80W column freezer makes ice on a glide-out shelf with two removable bins. The left bin is the primary one. If the shelf is not fully closed, ice lands outside the bin, which Electrolux says can mean a service call. Its guide also asks for a level cabinet, for the ice maker’s sake.
An Electrolux freezer not making ice may be in its first 24 hours, or switched off. Once off at the ICE MAKER key, it makes no ice at all, even with an empty bin. Sabbath mode stops it too.
Paired with the EI33AR80W, the freezer can take filtered water through a kit. Then its own water valve and harness are not used, and water comes from the refrigerator’s valve.
So when a kit-plumbed freezer makes no ice, we check the refrigerator’s valve and filter as well. Our Electrolux column freezer page covers the freezer’s cooling, and our Electrolux refrigerator page covers the refrigerator side.
The checks above come from Electrolux’s own guides, so run them first. If the refrigerator was installed in the last 30 days, Electrolux’s owner library sends you to the installer. An Electrolux ice maker not working after that is ours to diagnose.
We have seen a switched-off freezer ice maker booked as a failed one. So we check both switches, the arm and the filter before testing the fill valve and the ice maker’s power. From there we work on the fill valve, the ice maker itself, the dispenser motor and auger drive, and the wiring. Every current Electrolux refrigerator runs on R-600A, a flammable refrigerant, and our EPA-608 certified technicians handle the cooling side too.
An Electrolux freezer ice maker not working on a French door model gets the same order: its own switch first, then supply, then parts. An ERMC2295AS in the recall’s serial range goes to Electrolux, not to us: stop using its ice maker, as the recall section above says.
We source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. We fit OEM parts when the supplier has the right one. While any Electrolux coverage runs, a covered defect goes through Electrolux’s warranty service; outside it, the repair is ours. Book a visit and tell us the model number and which ice maker has stopped.
Every ice maker here fills from the house supply, so Electrolux’s supply rules matter. It asks for 30 to 100 psi at the cold water line. An Electrolux ice maker making little ice on a well or a reverse osmosis system may simply lack pressure.
Electrolux’s guides disagree on saddle valves, but for low ice, make sure yours is not a self-piercing one, as the ERMC2295A guide asks.
| Condition | Electrolux's rule | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Water pressure | 30 to 100 psi at the cold water line | French door and column freezer guides |
| Well system | Cut-on and cut-off pressures set too low reduce ice; have them turned up | French door guides |
| Reverse osmosis | Below 20 psi during regeneration is normal | French door guides |
| Water softener | Keep it maintained; its chemicals can damage the ice maker | French door and column freezer guides |
| Supply line | Copper or braided stainless, never where it can freeze | ERFC2393A and column freezer guides |
No current guide gives the ice maker a term of its own. It is covered as part of the appliance it sits in. The appliance’s term covers parts defective in materials or workmanship, when it is installed, used and maintained as its guide says.
Some guides add longer coverage for the cabinet liner and sealed system. That list names the compressor, condenser, evaporator, dryer and tubing, not the ice maker.
Every guide excludes service calls for air or water filters, so a clogged water filter behind hollow cubes is the owner’s to replace. Electrolux’s records for its two ice maker kits list no warranty term.
One year from delivery, as part of the ERFC2393A, ERFG2393A or ERMC2295A.
Two years from delivery, as part of the EI33AF80W.
Stop using the ice maker; Electrolux replaces it under recall 22-143, whatever the warranty says.
Is there an Electrolux ice maker reset button?
The fresh food ice maker turns off and on with a 3 second hold on the display key. The freezer ice maker uses its own power button.
The ERMC2295A’s freezer ice maker also has a button its guide labels test, with no instruction, so leave it alone. A dispenser that quits after a long press resets itself in about three minutes.
Why is my Electrolux refrigerator ice maker not working after installation?
Give it time. An Electrolux ice maker not making ice in its first day may be normal. Electrolux says ice can take 24 hours after installation, and air in new lines can cause two or three empty cycles. Prime the water system by dispensing water first.
Once ice arrives, discard the first full bin. If the ice maker was never connected to water, its switch should be off.
Is every Electrolux ERMC2295A in the ice maker recall?
No. Recall 22-143 covers only ERMC2295AS units with a serial from 1K91272383 to 1K21374610. The label is on the right panel inside the refrigerator compartment.
Inside that range, stop using the ice maker, as CPSC instructs. Its ice level detector arm can break into pieces and fall into the ice bucket, a choking hazard. Units outside it are not in the recall, and their ice makers are repaired like any other.
Why does my Electrolux ice maker make ice that tastes odd?
New plumbing is the first suspect. Electrolux says unflushed lines can give the first cubes discolored water or an odd flavor, and it asks you to discard the first full bin.
On an established unit, remember the filter cleans the ice water too. Electrolux says poor household water may mean changing it more often.
What are the most common problems with Electrolux ice maker units?
Electrolux does not rank failures, and neither do we. Its troubleshooting pages cover a switched-off ice maker, a blocked arm, a clogged filter, low pressure, fused cubes and a jammed auger.
An Electrolux ice maker problem that survives those checks is where a technician starts.
How much ice should an Electrolux ice maker make?
Electrolux’s guides rate each ice maker between 2 and about 4.5 pounds a day, by model. To troubleshoot Electrolux ice maker output, compare yours with that rate, then check the freezer setting, the filter, the valve and the water pressure.
Heavy door traffic also cuts production, according to Electrolux. On a well, low pump pressures are a documented cause.
Tell us the model number and which ice maker stopped, fresh food or freezer. Each one has its own switch, so that detail starts the diagnosis.
