Is the ice maker inside a Frigidaire or Frigidaire Professional refrigerator, the Professional column freezer, or an add-on kit? Three facts decide the repair: type, recall and warranty. Our insured, EPA-608 certified technicians handle Frigidaire refrigerator ice maker repair across Denver Metro, while countertop and nugget units sit outside what we service.
Start with the model number. Top freezers print it on the upper left side wall of the fresh food compartment, French door and side-by-side models on the upper right. Removing that plate voids the warranty.
Frigidaire Gallery refrigerators have their own page, and Electrolux-badged models belong on our Electrolux page. We do not service countertop, nugget or undercounter ice machines sold under the Frigidaire name. Most of them are licensed products.
Factory-fitted Frigidaire ice makers ship switched on. On the 3-door French door and the Professional side-by-side, the signal arm stops production when the bin is full. Frigidaire says not to use it as a switch. Those models use a display key held for 3 seconds, or a switch on the freezer ice maker.
The table lists every current Frigidaire and Professional model with a factory ice maker. Frigidaire lists FRFG1723A today as FRFG1723AV and FRFG1723AW, and a Frigidaire FRFG1723AV ice maker sits in the freezer, not at the door.
| Layout | Current models | Ice maker position |
|---|---|---|
| 3-door French door with door dispenser | FRFS2823A, FRFC2323A, PRFC2383A, PRFS2883A | Fresh food section; the Professional pair adds a freezer ice maker |
| 4-door French door with door dispenser | FRMS2733A, PRMC2290B, PRMS2790B | Fresh food section; the Professional pair adds a freezer ice maker |
| French door, water inside only | FRFG2033A, FRFG2011A, FRFN2813A, PRFG2383A | Freezer |
| French door, freezer ice maker | FRFG1723A | Freezer |
| Side-by-side | FRSS2323A, FRSS2623A, FRSC2333A, PRSC2222A | Freezer side, feeding the door |
| Top freezer | FFHI1835V and FRTI1936A; 12 more take a kit | Freezer, as a slim ice maker |
| Professional column freezer | FPFU19F8W | Middle of the freezer, with two glide-out bins |
In June 2022, Electrolux recalled the ice makers in 13 Frigidaire refrigerator models under CPSC recall 22-143. Their ice level detector arm can break into pieces and fall into the bucket. That is a choking hazard.
Only listed serial ranges are covered. FRSS2323A, FRSS2623A and FFHI1835VS are still in Frigidaire’s current catalog, so the name alone settles nothing. The table below gives the range for each model on the list.
If your serial is in range, stop using the ice maker and empty the bucket. Contact Electrolux, which schedules a technician to fit a free replacement ice maker with a polypropylene detector. That work is separate from any warranty.
Recall 24-110 of February 2024 covers a slim ice bucket part in certain 2015 to 2019 side-by-sides, including FFSC2323TS, FPSC2277RF, FPSC2278UF and FPSS2677RF. None of them is in the current catalog. Electrolux Group sends owners a free replacement part on request.
For recall 22-143, compare your serial with the range below. CPSC says the label sits on the right panel inside the refrigerator compartment.

A new refrigerator or kit makes little ice in its first 24 hours, and an unused bin takes about 1 to 2 days to fill. None of that is a fault.
On 3-door and Professional side-by-side models, the ice maker fills the bin from the rear. A Frigidaire ice maker not dumping ice into the front of the bin may be filling the back instead. Dispense some ice to move it forward.
A Frigidaire ice maker making noise is not automatically a fault. A Frigidaire ice maker water valve buzzes each time it opens to fill. The Professional side-by-side guide and the French door kit sheet also list a running Frigidaire ice maker motor and ice loosening from the tray. Grinding and squealing are on neither list.
A Frigidaire ice maker making grinding noises is one we check on site. One loud noise has a documented cause, though. With no water connected, a Frigidaire ice maker valve can chatter loudly as it tries to fill.
A Frigidaire ice maker making loud noise soon after delivery may simply have no water behind it. Frigidaire’s fix is switching it off until the supply is connected.
Frigidaire’s Owner Center quotes 2 to 3 pounds a day for every refrigerator, which fits no single layout in the guides. Go by your layout below.
| Ice maker | Ice per 24 hours |
|---|---|
| 3-door refrigerator ice maker | 3.0 to 3.4 lb standard depth; 2.7 to 3.2 lb counter depth |
| 3-door and 4-door freezer ice maker | 2 to 2.5 lb, rated with the freezer at 0°F |
| 4-door refrigerator ice maker | 3.2 to 3.7 lb |
| FRFG2011A freezer ice maker | About 5.4 lb |
| Top freezer slim ice maker | 2 to 2.5 lb, or about 2.5 lb in the FRTE and FRTI guide |
| Professional column freezer | About 4.5 lb |
Frigidaire asks for a cold water line at 30 to 100 psi. For a Frigidaire ice maker water line, its guides recommend copper or braided stainless steel, not 1/4-inch plastic. Plastic raises the leak risk. Frigidaire takes no responsibility for that damage.
A Frigidaire ice maker not getting water points first to the house side. Check the valve, the line and the filter. After a filter change, a Frigidaire ice maker not filling with water also needs the system primed. After those, we test the Frigidaire ice maker water inlet valve.
Hollow cubes signal a water shortage. They break open, leak onto the ice below and freeze it together. A Frigidaire ice maker leaking water into the ice bin this way is generally short of water. Frigidaire usually blames a clogged filter or a restricted supply.
Frigidaire’s Owner Center links a Frigidaire ice maker leaking water from the bottom to a door left open, which lets the evaporator ice up. Keep the doors fully closed.
Taking the doors off a 3-door French door model means unplugging the door’s water tube and pulling about five feet of it out. Frigidaire warns against kinking it.
The Owner Center names three more leak points.
A cracked water filter can leak inside the cabinet and slow the water at the door.
Ice left in the door chute can melt and run down it.
Air in the water line can cause them.
Frigidaire’s refrigerator guides for these models print no numbered ice maker fault code. Each sends flashing number codes to a technician. What a Frigidaire ice maker dispenser shows instead is an alarm.
DI SP means ice is jammed in the chute. Frigidaire blames ice that melted and refroze around the auger, or cubes jammed between the ice maker and the back of the bin. A Frigidaire ice maker freezing up that way follows infrequent use, temperature swings or power outages.
Use ice at least twice a week, Frigidaire says. Empty the bin after an outage of an hour or more. If the auger turns while the bin is out, it goes back in 45-degree steps. If a Frigidaire ice maker keeps freezing up after that, the fault is ours to find.
Temperature alarms such as HI belong to our Frigidaire refrigerator page. For the rest, find your code in the first column below.
| Code or alarm | Where Frigidaire lists it | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| DI SP, also written DISP | Owner Center, all refrigerators | Clear the jam, then thaw, empty and dry the bin. Clear the alert with CLEAR ALERTS or 30 seconds unplugged. |
| Cube or Crush blinking, with an alarm | 3-door and 4-door guides | A cube is holding the chute flapper open. Remove it and the alarm resets. |
| Ice Maker or lock indicator blinking | 3-door guides | Ice making is off, or dispensing is locked. Hold that key for 3 seconds. |
An ice maker that has stopped making ice starts with Frigidaire’s quick checks, not with a part. The ice maker should be on, the supply valve fully open and the line free of kinks. Seat the filter, and replace it at six months or when water runs slowly. Unlock the display if it is locked.
Installed within the last 30 days? Frigidaire’s Owner Center sends that call back to your installer.
We fix Frigidaire ice makers past those checks. That includes a Frigidaire ice maker tray stuck upside down or a jam that keeps returning. It includes a Frigidaire ice maker squealing noise and a door water tube kinked in a move. Kit installs and any code Frigidaire refers to a technician are ours too.
Our technicians are insured, every repair carries a 100-day labor warranty, and we source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts.
We also cover your other Frigidaire kitchen appliances, from refrigerators and freezers to wine coolers, dishwashers and disposers. The Frigidaire brand page lists the rest.
I have seen a bin jam clear at the auger and come straight back, on an ice maker that had sat unused for weeks. Need Frigidaire ice maker repair near me? Book a repair online from anywhere in Denver Metro, with a photo of the display.
Fourteen current Frigidaire refrigerators are listed as ice maker ready, and most of their records name the kit. French door kits also go by build date. IMKFD23A and IMKFD28A suit units made after October 2021, and the refrigerator must be preconfigured for an ice maker.
We confirm the fit from the model and serial number and from the product record before ordering one.
On the top mount kits, the Frigidaire ice maker sensor is an arm that starts production when ice runs low. We fit kits on ice maker ready models. The table lists each current kit and the models Frigidaire names for it.
| Kit | What Frigidaire says | Named on |
|---|---|---|
| IM117000 | Top mount kit with its own water valve and a bracket for 30-inch cabinets | FFHT1425V, FFTR1425V, FFHT1814W, FFHT1835V, FFTR1814W, FFHT2045X, FFHT2022A, FFTR2045V |
| IMKT2026 | Top mount kit that replaced IM1900MD | FRTE1622A, FRTE1936A, FRTE1814A, and the FRBE1925A and FRFN1801A guide |
| IMKTTM0018 | Top mount kit for select models | FFHT1822U |
| IMKFD23A and IMKFD28A | French door bottom mount kits, counter depth and standard depth | Their shared sheet is attached to FRFC2323A (counter depth) and FRFS2823A (standard depth) |
| IM116000 (Smart Choice) | Universal top mount kit with the ice maker, water valve and hardware | Top mount refrigerators pre-configured for an ice maker |
The Frigidaire Professional FPFU19F8W single-door freezer has a glide-out ice maker with two bins. Its full bins hold about 8 pounds. It makes no ice in its first 24 hours.
Its ICE MAKER key sits on the display below the upper drawer. The ice maker is on by default, and holding the key for 3 seconds turns it off.
The freezer’s guide covers only an air filter. The included TTFLTRICEKIT feeds filtered water to the freezer ice maker when the freezer stands beside a single-door refrigerator such as the FPRU19F8W. The freezer’s own water valve and harness then go unused.
Cooling faults on the freezer itself belong to our Frigidaire freezer page.
Frigidaire and Frigidaire Professional refrigerators with ice makers carry a one-year limited warranty on parts that prove defective. The Professional column freezer and its matching refrigerator carry two years, and their written terms and spec fields agree. Kits are a different story. Frigidaire’s kit records show no warranty term, and the kit sheets for these kits state none.
Check your guide’s start date. Older editions count from the original purchase, most current ones from delivery, and the March 2026 editions from the original delivery date.
In-warranty repairs go to Frigidaire’s warranty service, and recall remedies stay with Electrolux. Once the term ends, the repair is ours. The warranty also leaves out several things.
Every Frigidaire kit sheet forbids running water tubing where temperatures fall below freezing. A frozen supply line is a repair we handle.
The refrigerator around it has a room temperature floor of its own, and that floor differs by model. Our Frigidaire refrigerator page lists them.
On the Professional side-by-side and the 3-door French door, Frigidaire says the signal arm is not for stopping the ice maker by hand. Those models put the switch on the display.
An FRSS2623AS owner starts at the recall table above, because recall 22-143 names the ice level detector arm on listed serials.
Frigidaire’s Owner Center lists the code as DI SP, also written DISP, with the letter I. It means ice is jammed in the chute, as the alarm table above explains. If it keeps coming back, book a visit.
Frigidaire’s guides and kit sheets for these models describe no red-and-green ice maker light sequence. The top mount kit button they describe glows green when the ice maker is on.
A red light on a countertop or nugget machine means a unit outside what we service. On a refrigerator ice maker, book a visit and say what the display shows.
Stop at the ice bin. Lift it out without turning the auger, loosen stuck ice with warm water, and wash it by hand. Frigidaire’s guides say not to put it in the dishwasher.
The ice maker itself connects to power and water, so removing it is technician work.
Have the model and serial numbers, the purchase and delivery dates, and a photo of the display. Mention any recent move, filter change or water shutoff.
Switch the ice maker off first, as Frigidaire’s French door kit sheet advises whenever the water supply is off. Frigidaire’s guides warn that, left on without water, its valve can chatter.
The same kit sheets forbid water tubing where temperatures fall below freezing, which decides where the line runs in an unheated Denver Metro garage.
Do not force it free. Frigidaire’s guides warn against using an ice pick or any sharp tool on ice. Switch the ice maker off, then book a visit so we can look inside it.
Send the model and serial numbers from the label inside the cabinet; they decide the recall check. Our insured, EPA-608 certified Denver Metro technicians handle the rest.
