Frigidaire Garbage Disposal Repair in Denver Metro

A Frigidaire disposer that goes silent gets its power cut first. Then you check that the turntable turns, and only then the red reset button on the front. Slowing down while it grinds is not a fault: Frigidaire says the motor is raising its torque. Past those checks, where the fault sits and the warranty years left decide who does the Frigidaire garbage disposal repair.

Your Model Number Sets the Horsepower and the Warranty Years

Frigidaire prints the model and serial numbers on the disposer’s bottom plate, on the power cord tag, or on both. If the plate is hard to read, try the tag.

By Frigidaire’s own rule, your disposer is continuous feed unless you chose a batch feed model. All six share one owner’s guide. Find yours in the table. Horsepower sets the warranty years, and the connection column shows how the unit gets power.

All six belong to the main Frigidaire line, and none is a Gallery or Professional model. An older Frigidaire Professional disposer is ours as well, but read the recall section first. A Gallery disposer goes to our Frigidaire Gallery page.

Disposers sit in our Frigidaire kitchen appliances group, beside the refrigerators, freezers, ice makers, wine coolers and dishwashers. The cooking and laundry machines branch off our main Frigidaire page.

Sounds and Signs Frigidaire Treats as Normal

A clicking start and a slower grind are both normal in Frigidaire’s guide.

Frigidaire asks for cold water while grinding, because it keeps fats solid. Let the water and disposer run about 15 seconds after grinding stops. Never try to lubricate the disposer. The motor is permanently lubricated, and the unit scours its own internal parts with each use.

  • Clicking at start

The Anti-Jam Swivel Impellers click as they swing into place, which Frigidaire calls normal operation.

  • Slowing under load

Frigidaire says the disposer is increasing torque, its grinding power, and operating normally.

  • Rust-colored film on the turntable

Mineral deposits from your water can look like rust. Frigidaire says its stainless steel turntables will not corrode.

  • Noise from small bones and fruit pits

Frigidaire leaves that sound out of its loud-noise fault.

Silent or Humming: Frigidaire’s Order of Checks

For a Frigidaire garbage disposal not working at all, the guide puts power off first and the turntable before the reset button. It has no separate entry for a hum. A hum without turning fits two entries: a unit that does not start, and a stuck turntable.

Wiring decides how you cut the power. A Frigidaire corded disposer, FF75DISPC1 for example, plugs into an outlet that Frigidaire requires to be switched. The direct-wire FF05DISPD1 needs a motor control switch with a marked off position, in sight of the disposer or the sink opening.

  1. Cut the power: unplug the cord, or turn off the wall switch or the breaker, depending on how your unit is wired.
  2. Open the top: lift out the stopper and the splash guard.
  3. Test the turntable: turn it from the sink with a wooden broom handle. If it will not rotate freely, clear the jam first.
  4. Press the red button: refit the splash guard, then push the reset button on the front until it clicks and stays in.
  5. Check the supply: if the button never tripped, look for a shorted or broken wire to the unit. Then check the switch, fuse box and breaker.
  6. If all of that checks out: Frigidaire says the unit may have internal problems that need service or replacement.

On the FF75DISPB1, the Stopper Is the Switch

Frigidaire’s one current batch feed model is switched by its stopper. Two small slots sit in the stopper base. Line either one up with the switch plunger inside the neck, push down firmly, and the motor starts. Lift the stopper and the disposer shuts off.

The largest slot works the other way. Lined up with the plunger, it keeps the motor off. Frigidaire’s guide says that position seals the sink, and also that water can still drain. So before calling a silent batch unit dead, check which slot sits on the plunger.

Frigidaire’s Broom-Handle Fix for Jams and Rattles

Frigidaire says a sudden clatter is usually a spoon, a bottle cap or another object that fell in. Turn off the switch and the water. Wait for the disposer to stop. Then remove the splash guard, lift the object out with long-handled tongs and refit the guard.

A turntable that will not rotate calls for the power off first. Look for an object lodged between the turntable and the grind ring. Rotate the table with a wooden broom handle to free it, then take the object out. Never put fingers or a hand inside.

If nothing is lodged and it still sticks, Frigidaire says there may be internal problems.

On the FF75DISPC1 and FF13DISPC1, a Silver Guard magnetic ring catches most metal objects before they reach the chamber. Jams are outside the warranty. So a jam is a paid call, even on a new unit.

Frigidaire’s guide also lists what to keep out of the disposer.

  • Hard objects: glass, china, tin cans, bottle caps, aluminum foil, and clam or oyster shells.
  • Other non-food items: plastic, leather, cloth, rubber, string and feathers, plus whole corn husks.
  • Hot or caustic liquids: hot grease, and lye or chemical drain cleaners.
  • Large bones and fibrous waste: slow to grind, and easier to put in the trash.

Frigidaire’s Knockout Plug and the Dishwasher Inlet

A new Frigidaire disposer arrives with a knockout plug in its dishwasher inlet. Remove it before connecting a dishwasher. Frigidaire says to knock the whole plug out with a blunt tool, like a steel punch or wooden dowel, not a screwdriver.

A plug that drops into the chamber does no harm. Take it out, or let the disposer grind it up over time.

Frigidaire’s dishwasher articles check that plug first when a dishwasher will not drain. The disposer guide adds one habit. Make sure the disposer is empty before the dishwasher runs, so it can drain properly. If the disposer stopped with waste inside, clear that before you suspect the dishwasher.

Leaks Frigidaire Traces to the Flange, Mount or Elbow

Start by finding where the drip begins. Frigidaire lists three possible causes at the top of the unit and one at the waste elbow. The table’s last column shows how its warranty treats each leak.

Two install details matter on any reseal. Once the sink flange is seated, Frigidaire says it must not be moved or rotated, or the seal may break. The three mount screws go in evenly and firmly, but not too tight.

Frigidaire’s troubleshooting lists no cause for a leak from the body of the unit. Its warranty covers defects in workmanship and material. Check the term before paying to fix one.

Three Older Frigidaire Disposers in a 2017 Recall

Recalled units carry an impact hazard. A metal part inside can break off and come out during use. The recall covers FPDI103DMS, a Frigidaire Professional 1 HP disposer, and FPDI758DMS, a Professional 3/4 HP disposer. The third model, FGDI753DMS, is a Gallery unit, so it goes to our Frigidaire Gallery page.

Read the label on the side of the unit. A recalled disposer has one of those model numbers and a serial starting with ZF, or with G in second place. These units were sold from December 2015 through March 2017.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission told owners to stop using a recalled disposer at once. It announced a free replacement, installed for the owner. The contact is on the CPSC notice: search its site for recall 17-129. None of Frigidaire’s six current models is on that recall.

When to Call Wilson & Myers

Start with Frigidaire’s own steps above: power off, the turntable, the red button, and on a batch unit, the stopper slot. At a drip, check the elbow screws.

Frigidaire says a damaged power cord must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or a similarly qualified person.

Past those steps, the job is ours. We have seen a stuck turntable and a tripped button on the same call, so we check both first. A unit that stays dead with power and wiring intact is ours to diagnose.

We also take a stuck turntable with nothing lodged. The same goes for a top leak at the sink flange, support flange or cushion mount. When a unit is past saving and past its term, we fit a new one.

Some work is not ours. Frigidaire’s instructions send a new outlet to a qualified electrician, and a clogged drain line belongs to a plumber.

If you are the original buyer, inside the term and holding the receipt, start with Frigidaire’s warranty service. After the term, Frigidaire garbage disposal repair is ours. Our insured technicians cover the Denver Metro Area, and we source parts through national supplier networks and manufacturer contracts. Book a disposer visit online and keep the model number handy.

Frigidaire’s Warranty Runs 5 to 12 Years by Horsepower

The term depends on horsepower. From the date of purchase, it runs 5 years at 1/3 HP, 6 at 1/2, 10 at 3/4 and 12 at 1-1/4 HP. A lifetime corrosion warranty sits on top: a disposer that stops working because of corrosion is replaced.

So an FF13DISPC1 in its eleventh year is still covered for its first owner. Both covers are for the original purchaser, with the original sales receipt. Neither cover passes to a new owner. On a resale home, a disposer that came with the house is a paid repair from the start.

Claims go to Frigidaire’s warranty service, with the serial number and receipt ready. Past the term, the repair is ours. Inside it, the items below are still outside Frigidaire’s cover.

  • Jams: excluded by name, even on a new unit.
  • Three leak points: the sink flange, the dishwasher inlet and the discharge elbow.
  • Installation faults: improper electrical connections and installer damage, such as over-torqued screwed connections.
  • Misuse: grinding non-food waste, altering the unit, or any use beyond normal residential use.
  • Chemicals: lye or chemical drain cleaners corrode metal parts, and Frigidaire says their use voids all warranties.

Frigidaire Garbage Disposal Repair FAQ

Where is the reset button on a Frigidaire garbage disposal?

It is red, on the front of the unit. Cut the power and check that the turntable turns freely, then push the button until it clicks and stays down.

Is the Frigidaire garbage disposal FF75DISPC1 still under warranty?

That model carries 10 years from the date of purchase, plus the lifetime corrosion warranty. Both are for the original purchaser, with the receipt. Jams are excluded, and so are leaks at the sink flange, dishwasher inlet or discharge elbow. Inside the term, contact Frigidaire’s warranty service before booking a repair.

Do I need a hex key to free a jammed Frigidaire disposer?

Frigidaire’s guide does not call for one. Its jam tool is a long wooden object, like a broom handle or wooden spoon, worked from the sink with the power off. Rotate the turntable to free whatever is lodged, then lift it out with long-handled tongs.

Can a new Frigidaire disposer stop the dishwasher from draining?

Yes, if its knockout plug is still in. That plug sits in the dishwasher inlet, and Frigidaire’s own drain articles check it first. If it is already out, our Frigidaire dishwasher page covers the dishwasher side.

The turntable in my Frigidaire disposer looks rusty. Is it failing?

Frigidaire tells owners not to be alarmed. It says mineral deposits from your water can look like rust on the stainless steel turntable, and that the turntable will not corrode. If a disposer ever fails from corrosion, the lifetime corrosion warranty replaces it for the original purchaser.

Can I pour drain cleaner into a clogged Frigidaire disposer?

No. Frigidaire says lye and chemical drain cleaners cause serious corrosion of metal parts, and that their use voids all warranties. It adds that the damage is easy to detect. A clog past the disposer sits in the trap or drain line, and that is a plumber’s job.
